I have an academic poster to finish. Will someone do it for me? I'll pay
davknight comments on Feb 4, 2019:
I don't think the U.S. even has a nation-wide rubric for treating the mentally ill. It would vary so much from state to state. From what I can see, we either consign them to group homes run by non-profits, turn em loose but medicated, or even run em for President!
Amisja replies on Feb 4, 2019:
@davknight No I mean like me, I am a clinical practitioner (nursing background) as such I can decide (alongside my patients) the best course of action for my patients and either prescribe (if its on my list) or recommend prescriptions. Its not my fulltime job anymore but I still do it from time to time. If I make an error then that's up to me. No one tells me how to act. I just have to show I am acting in the best interests of my patients.

@davknight Why? (The brand name is prozac but in EU we tend to stay away from brand names). All benzos are harmful for long term use and SSRIs should be monitored, particularly in the young and vulnerable adults.

hmmm 1:4 people have a mental illness. I am in UK so it is different here. Fluoxetine is one of the most widely prescribed medications (at one point the most widely prescribed) in USA, despite it being virtually ineffective in mild to moderate depression.

@twshield In the 1970s in UK they had this things on TV called 'the Black and White Minstrel show'. It was loads of men in exaggerated 'black face', singing with white women. It was variety and my parents would never have allowed that on their TV (more to do with it being low brow than the racial aspect). It was racist then and certainly wouldn't be accepted in 2019. It is the idea that an entire group of human beings can be banded together based on what? Slight variation in haplotype which is at its most complex a set of genetic determinants located on a single chromosome. This guy possibly had some misguided notion of making a statement, or being outrageous. I have known 100s medical students and they all work bloody hard and play harder. I am a forgiving person and strongly believe a life can be rehabilitated. However he MUST own this. It is wrong.

@Moravian Sometimes the differences are so subtle as to be difficult to accurately explain. As in the word 'Momentarily' which has a slightly different meaning in USA. The 'alpha' course which came to UK from USA, wrapped Christianity in some woo wooey self help jargon and does appeal to youngsters, however it has recently come under a huge amount of criticism, especially in the context of shaming sexually active young people and trying to undo the concepts of Gillick competency. In my experience these god botherers can only push their message so far (until they try to ban mince pies ;) ) before Brits hit back.

If you think the country is being destroyed by porn and the LGBT community, and you support the NRA,...
Denker comments on Feb 2, 2019:
I don’t particularly care about the rest of the stuff, but porn? I mean, I know porn has become more accepted because of the internet’s easy access to it, but that doesn’t mean it is a good thing. I’m kinda against porn.
Amisja replies on Feb 2, 2019:
@irascible @Denker @OwlInASack May I weigh in? I agree that modern pornography is harmful. It sometimes focusses on the 'barely legal' and from experience working with offenders this directly lead to a desire to look at inages of children. Porn is also rather like heroin in that over time its potency becomes less effective, hence the desire for sronger stuff. Cooersion is also a feature in addition to out and out violence.
I have a demon on my wall. Do you think it's a sign and can I make any money off this?
Beowulfsfriend comments on Feb 1, 2019:
No money in demons, unless you get an exorcism and sell the book and film rights. Try renaming it something else like a hairy alien. Or the spirit of Ghengis Khan.
Amisja replies on Feb 2, 2019:
Oh I think some looney Christians would love it. Especially if there were some 'hauntings' #wecouldmakeakilling

You can learn to do pretty well anything with a little help. Try googling the problem or looking for a helpful video on Youtube or elsewhere. You sound as if you are perfecty competent - just not used to doing certain things,

I did them, without help too!

It's not stupid, it's what you need to know or not.....I cannot operate boilers - my parents, my father in laws, my neighbors, because I have not lived with one for over thirty years. But I can light a fire anytime, anywhere and keep a stove going on peat or wood and even cook on one because that's ...

Flu shot anyone?
Orbit comments on Feb 1, 2019:
I always get a flu shot, and even if I still get the flu, it's not as bad as it would be without the vaccine.
Amisja replies on Feb 1, 2019:
You shouldn't get the flu, you might get a bad cold.

That sounds like the list of a very intelligent capable woman. What kind of heater is it? Does it use a boiler or maybe do you need to light the pilot?

Can we help with instructions or a YouTube video? Or do you require a handyperson? If you can do all those things? You have pattern recognition skills and dexterity - so you sure as heck could learn.
Amisja replies on Feb 1, 2019:
I did it. The boiler (outside through the snow in the garage, needed to be reset!) The TV is a bit more complicated but I just pretended I wanted to watch what I actually got to come on. (My partner said, 'quiz shows, who are you and what have you done with Jayne" ;)
Flu shot anyone?
