Cheesus Crust, if we crash out at the end of March this is only the beginning. The UK had been snuggled in the warm cuddle of European protectionism for 35 years, and it's going to be a very, very nasty shock if it gets itself thrust into the big nasty world of international trade negotiation.

Amisja replies on Jan 17, 2019:
@HomeAloneSunday No no, that's alright. Its my error. I was just saying, I can take my phd (when I finally get it!) anywhere. I understand some of the differences. My ex's Dad was a professor and my ex's brother is too. They didn't have to encounter the horror of a viva voca but do have to ply their trade for grants (I know which I would hate more). I actually found my first degree harder, but then I was preggers and had baby brain and a disinterested hubby. The research for this one is a case of just keeping spinning plates turning. Once it's done, I am hoping it will inform practice and make changes to care. The qualification might give me a rise, but I doubt it.

Amisja replies on Jan 17, 2019:
@HomeAloneSunday I understand the difference, in US having a phd makes you a professor, attracting research grants keeps you there. A phd is a qualification here, being a professor is a job following having developed a specialism. Religion is unusual amongst academics here. Many of my colleagues have phds, very few are professors and not one is religious. This is England nothing is worth doing unless we make it really really hard.

@LenHazell53 Any credibility. I live in East Lancashire, I have lived and worked amongst Muslims all my life...I have seen Muslim doctors work for hours, providing personal sacrifice to save the life of some right wing beer sodden scumbag, I have dear dear friends who are Muslim nurses, guys as well as women. From where I am sat right now there are Muslim people who had Christmas trees out at Christmas and sent us cards. The local mosque sold poppies and a set of young Muslim lads dressed up in a traditional Indian regiment attire for the WW1 remembrance. Why would anyone be proud of a country that enslaved their ancestors and mistreated them when their grandfathers were ASKED to come here to help after WW2? Yet they are. They love the footie and the cricket. Yes there are issues. We heard of the 'grooming gangs'. However the vast majority of paedophiles in UK are white. Those men have been condemned by most Muslims in the same way we would condemn white paedophiles. When young men, particularly, feel disenfraiched in THEIR OWN country and some charismatic leader turns up and fills them full of BS, is it any wonder some of them turn to violence? Another life time ago, I used to turn out for the Anti-facist league, (precusor to Antifa) and a guy there, much older and more radical than me said we (the established British population) would sign our own death warrants if we failed to support the then newly arrived Kenyan Muslims. In addition, we are in a much better position to change things on the inside than outside. I am angry and upset that my children's opportunities will be limited this way. @mordant The bonobos 'became female', for all intents and purposes. (I really need to find the original source, it explains it further). Again I'd urge you to check out the people with the alien leg syndrome (I am not sure that is the real name, I think I just made that up!) these people are not delusional. We do have people who experience single issue delusionals but these are in the context of otherwise disordered thought otherwise. These people believe they are amputees...they are convinced of this.

@PBuck0145 Ok Mrs May went to the EU to negotiate a withdrawal agreement including a backstop to the NI border (this is important). She came back to the UK and the British Parliament voted against her deal (not the EUs). Eire, as a member of the EU has a sovereign right to protect its borders. A hard border would massively hurt if not destroy NI. A hard border (with checkpoints and passport entry) would re-introduce the visions of soldiers etc which they worked so hard to get rid of and increase the risk of igniting sectarian violence. The EU has nothing to do with this vote and as a Brit, I very much want to remain a member of EU and despair at what has happened.

Your stepdaughter is wise and I appreciate your honesty. However, as in the link I shared, we are not the only creatures who experience transgender members. I read an article about male Bonobos who took the 'female' role within their groups. There was a question as to whether this was a response to the presence of Alpha males but the researchers reckoned this was not the case. Basically these biologically male bonobos ifentified as female. There are a very small number of people who identfy elsewise, for example I read a story about man who identified as an amputee and considered one of his limbs to be entirely alien. Other people have similarly claimed blindness. Coming from a scientific background, I am less likely to believe 'sociiety' changes us and more that we change society. Certainly is it much more acceptable to be trans than it was. Weirdly (again another uncited ref) I read about the fact that being trans is acceptable in certain countries with majority Muslim populations, I am pretty sure Iran was one. As for it being more common, thats not true Mr. Mordant. About 0.3% of the population is trans. This statistic is more or less fixed. There are some biological differences between the brains of trans women and cismen, in that they appear to have weaker androgen receptors which bind testosterone. If we accept that some people are born differently then we have to accept trans individuals. Finally your point about reversals. Yes they occur but they are not common and from my reading virtually all are as a result of familial pressure. I am now going on a mad lit search because I hate unref'd information.
