We are creatures of nature, like slugs, or peanuts or dandelions. We have an illusion of free will. We live basically to procreate. We have evolved in order to do just that, to keep our offspring alive and invest our energies into them. We die and for a couple of generations a few people remember us. But that is it. No purpose, no design, no afterlife.

Abortions: should there be a time limit?
Amisja comments on Oct 20, 2018:
Paul this is for the woman herself to decide. No one else. A doctor I used to work with said to me that the biggest abortionist is 'mother nature' as virtually all women experience 'void pregnancies' at some time, usually without even knowing they were pregnant.

The Exodus: Nice Story; Pity About The Reality: Part Two THE TEN PLAGUES We’ve all learned ...
Amisja comments on Oct 20, 2018:
I am less inclined to go for pure fiction and more likely to believe wildly exaggerated. The plagues for example, there are tons of examples of widespread 'plagues' as the bible described. The first born son thing too, lots of diseases still, to this day affect the very young to a much wider degree. As girls are more or less non-existent in the OT, they were unlikely to get a mention. Plagues that kill children first were probably common. As the population as a whole was much younger then anything affecting the elderly would be less likely to be recognised. A few of these events, unfortunately timed in close proximity to each other was likely to have been seen as a punishment in supersistious times. I agree there is no evidence of an exodus, however there were tons of nomadic people in those times (there still are), Prof Christina Hays, suggests what is more likely is a few of these groups got together and shared stories of daring deeds. The parting of the water, again can happen in times of extreme weather. I think it is likely that, like a lot of human stories, there was a kernal of truth that was retold and retold until it became more and more fantastic.

However if it bothers you, it might be worth checking it out. BTW, I am only over the penines from you in Lancs. My son is a student at York. I was there recently.

John...again with the super long posts. I did read this one. All I can say is free will is probably overstated. We, as beings, have far less than we think we have. Are positive illusions a necessary condition for being happy?
Amisja comments on Oct 16, 2018:
You have maybe 80 years and become increasingly more disabled, you will work hard for many of those jobs will be thankless and will endure heartache, loss and anguish. Apart from a few small numbers of us, we will never get rich and even for those who do, we discover it does not make you happy. People worship things and other people rather than focussing on love and kindness. The world is full of pain and suffering, people are often unkind. If we saw the world how it trully is we would never get out of bed. In fact we work together for a Utopian tomorrow knowing we may not even see it in our own lives. I am prepared for that because overall life does get better and will improve. I'm not working 16hr shifts in a cotton mill like my great grandma from age 12 years. This is what we owe to our ancestors and that is the love and hope they gave us.

Amisja comments on Oct 15, 2018:
You know years ago, I used to chat on a political website in USA. It started because I lived there at the time and as a working class British lass I could not understand why anyone would dry clothes in dryers. I mentioned that I had been instructed by the appt complex owners, that line drying was not permitted. I asked my father-in-law who said (quoting) "Yes because people will think you are a poor Mexican"! I was horrified. He was an academic and certainly left leaning politically. What followed was the BIGGEST political debate of my life. From climate change to racism, to knowledge economy to American values and beyond...all starting from a discussion about line drying. Sunshine (if you have it) is free, why wouldn't you use it. I live back in NW England, known for grey rainy weather and I still mostly line dry where I can. If not I dry clothes indoors on a 'maiden'.

I am a life long Labour supporter and I support Corbyn. The problem was never antisemetism but Labour's pro Palestine stance. Unfortunately that became anti-semetic in the eyes of many of the Jewish left. I strongly believe (having been married to a Jewish man for over 20 years) that you can support Jewish identity and Palestinians right to live peaceably. Isreal is not everything Jewish in the world. Its all a big mess but the Palestinians have a right to life too. We on the left are supporters of equality and freedom for all.

I think that is interesting because ultimately you would be in control of your own end. I am not sure. I am curious enough to want to see the future but I am not sure I could endure the pain of seeing my loved ones die. I can't even bring myself to think about it. If I could live basically as well as I do now then yes. Another consideration is how would I afford it? I have worked out that with the pension pots I have, I have enough money for 20 years after I retire. There are too many varibles to consider. So lets say I'll stick with my 3 score years and 10!

I am interested in what you have to say but your posts are too long. I would say though, time didn't exist until we invented it.
