Can you block the groups or people that offend you? I just learned about group hiding. I doubt you are going to change anyone's behavior since they are adults, but you can change what you see or are exposed to.
Amisja replies on Dec 29, 2018:
Hi yes I can block them but my point is that people need to change, behaviours should change too. What was acceptable in the past isn't so much in 2019. As women, we should call it when we see it.

Amisja replies on Dec 28, 2018:
I am grown up. This isn't about being oversensitive, its about accepting that the world has evolved and we are no longer to be judged on random body parts. What would you feel if a man wrote, 'all I want is a woman with bound feet' or 'I love a girl with an artificially extended neck'. These are affectations clearly, but to make posts on an open website suggesting a woman's value is only based on the size of her breasts is NOT acceptable. Personal preference is a thing apparently, but surely there is more to anyone than that.

Very kind of you. How goes boxing day in modern Britain? Knowing its origin story, how has it stood up in a socialist country (just writing socialist, I do so wish more of us Americans knew the true definition)
Amisja replies on Dec 24, 2018:
Well Boxing Day was the day when those of my class (working class) got a box of goodies and paid (yes annually) by their employers. They had already slaved (and that term is not used lightly) for the middle and upper classes on Christmas Day. Boxing Day was a day off for the serving classes. There are traditions of kings serving servants going back to the middle ages. It is wank, based on the ideas that certain humans are inherently better than others. Nowadays Boxing day is usually about local football derbies, way too much alocohol and not a god in sight.

Would you like to come for Christmas dinner?
This time of year is difficult for some people.
PalacinkyPDX comments on Dec 21, 2018:
Have fun, enjoy the sense of community, and eat-eat-eat. Nothing in the least wrong with that.

Oh and drink Mrs! I just bought tons of booze!

Beowulfsfriend comments on Dec 21, 2018:
Much like a Christian or Hindu or other religious family, the advice will be similar: you are, unfortunately, in for years of a mess most likely. Either, you hide your true feelings and suffer internally and especially mentally and intellectually, or you tell those around you and they surprise you...

That is a lovely response Mr. Wulf'sfriend. I approve this message

My approach is to find someone like you sitting in the back and sit with them, not talking, just being introvert, to be honest. Maybe not a great coping mechanism, maybe super awkward, but it's me.

Thing is, I am much braver in email than I am in person. I actually organised the event and the secret Santa. Hard nosed academics are not known for their Christmas jollity, especially in the UK. I just sat in the corner and carried on working and chatting here. I would need far more alcohol than I have had to really get into the party spirit.
Is there a Senior Section for Atheists........really, really Senior!

@Jacar Nurses die in practice all the time. Here in UK about 12 nurses die every year. Before you scoff that number, UK has a 5th the population of USA and very few domestic guns.
