The Muslim situation in America is really complicated.
Amisja comments on Jul 4, 2018:
I am British, I live in England. I have grown up with Muslim brothers and sisters for my entire life. There is a tiny number of right wing extremists who hate the muslims and a tiny number of muslims who hate non muslim people. The vast vast majority just plod along as they always have. Stop with your lies.

Amisja comments on Jul 4, 2018:
Woah where do you even start with this level of pure hatred???? This is utterly disgusting. I live in a British town with 33% Muslims (some are my dear friends) and NOT ONE is involved in radicalised hate crime. Do not do this. The Q'oran is a very ancient text but word for word against the OT there is little difference when it comes to the levels of violence. The thing is we have all evolved. I want to see a peer reviewed study as regards the statistics you claim. Do not fan the flames of hatred.
I would like to wish all my American friends on AGN a very happy 4th of July.

Does Conservative Politics exist because Conservative Religion frequently doesn’t ruin lives ...
Amisja comments on Jul 3, 2018:
Conservative politics in the UK came from a laissez faire approach to business during the industrial revolution. The idea that business was sanctimount, above all and should therefore be free to make its own decisions. Consequently they had no problem with child labour or enslaving entire nations because, afterall profit was king. It moved away from the old ideals of kindly paternalistic approach to poverty and believed in functionalism. The labour movement was a response to that. Conservatism here had no real religious base, in fact the opposite is true. It was the left who generally followed religious doctrine. There has been a lie amongst conservative types here and in the US that profits overall will eventually improve everyone's life. Certainly, in the west most people are fed and housed but the gap between rich and poor is huge. We just do not question some people's 'right' to be rich and this to me is wrong. No human has the right to more of the earth's resources than any other. If you then mix a 'god given right' or a belief that you are more blessed than any other people into the argument then you start to see some of the issues you have with the religious right in USA. Add to this the desire to keep the 'underdog down', divide working people by things like race, culture or religion and then try to maintain control with education, healthcare and diet then you have a toxic mix. My views are, paranoid as it seems, religion is social control at its best.

Is the Trump presidency a gift in disguise?
Amisja comments on Jul 2, 2018:
As a Brit (with strong links to USA) the only possible useful thing this administration has done is ignite young people and bring them into the political discourse. When young people start to think about their world the left have powerful allies. Not only do they have strong voices, they have the invincibility of youth. I dislike the comparisons to facism but completely appreciate how the extreme right are exagerrating the fears of the population to further their own ends. However, this gives the left the opportunity to provide an honest alternative. The problem with the left wing in both countries (USA and UK) is complacency. They must provide strong viable alternatives or they look weak. My view is that when the 'noughties' start voting (Don't forget they are 18 this year), the political landscape will look very different. Just get out and vote.

I figured out that I don't hate folding laundry.
Amisja comments on Jul 1, 2018:
Dry your clothes on a washing line. Better for the environment and saves money. I dry mine outside even in winter (as long as its dry). Also the wrinkles drop out. I like doing laundry and ironing but I get so little time to do it I end up with a laundry mountain.

Amisja comments on Jun 25, 2018:
I absolutely hate this. Chubby chasers are the bane of my life. To be viewed just by your size, your brain, abilities, personality become pointless. It means you have to remain large to retain attraction. Its horrible and demeaning. I lost a lot of weight and my ex dumped me. Being very overweight is unhealthy.
Let's see how this goes. Not digging the point system, but whatever.

What percentage do you feel male and what percentage you feel female?
Amisja comments on Jun 25, 2018:
I only feel like me. I have all the requisite girly bits and I like men. I can plaster and do DIY but I am hopeless with cars. I am rubbish with tech and football and absolutely do not get cricket. My Dad would never buy me a 'pint' of anything to drink. I am a traditional northern English woman, hard working, resilient and careful with money. In some cultures I would be seen as masculine, I am also 172cm (about 5ft 8"), its a good day when I remember to brush my hair and I only rarely wear heels. I can't say because being me is all I remember being.

I just viewed what was you greatest skill.
Amisja comments on Jun 22, 2018:
My greatest accomplishments are my children. Its been tough. My eldest doesn't speak to me, she was a sickly baby and hard work as a child and a teen. Now she is doing very well. Eventually she will talk to me again but I am very proud of her. She is beautiful sweet funny and intelligent. My middle boys has just finished his BA. He nearly died when he was born and grew up to develop Aspbergers. He is bright funny and kind. He looks beautiful and has a heart of gold. My youngest is a mini me. 6ft 3, kind loving intelligent. He has type 1 diabetes and lots of physical problems. He has been ill a lot but is heading off to York this sept to do philosophy. I of course, remain upright, employed, creative and academic but nothing I acheive, not the doctorate, not papers publish, nothing makes me prouder than those three.
Happy summer solstice!

Amisja comments on Jun 15, 2018:
I work for the NHS (and a university) here in UK as a senior clinical practitioner and really resent this post. Not one of my medical colleagues does their job for money! I earn more than most junior doctors and believe you me they work bloody hard! It takes 13 years of training to become a consultant in the UK and doctors are expected to constantly undertake CPD...I know, I contribute to some of this training. I have sat with more tired, anxious junior doctors who feel unable to meet the needs of their patients than I care to remember. It is illegal for medical staff to receive monetary knock backs...we don't even get nice pens anymore. What I'd suggest is if you don't like your doctors...don't go!
Suicide, a luxury of the affluent countries.
Amisja comments on Jun 14, 2018:
This is inaccurate, unlikely to reflect the truth. Suicide is endemic across all human societies and even some mammals. This post is actually harmful because it perpetuates the notion that suicide is about selfishness and priviledge when in fact it is sometimes about altruism. In fact it is more likely to be ignored or death stats recorded inaccurately because of religious or cultural teasons https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1240102/ Please consider the affect of posting such comments.

I've always had a problem with the story of Abraham.
Amisja comments on Jun 2, 2018:
This story was meant to be an indication of how different Abraham's 'one true god' was from all the other previous gods. What it was meant to illustrate was that unlike all other gods Abraham's guy didn't need child sacrifice. I can remember even as a small child thinking how incredibly cruel this was. My research suggests that child sacrfice did start to lose favour in the fertile cresent from around 7000 years ago but continued to be an option for other religions even until relatively recently. The writings do have a historical and social interest and cannot be compared to today's standards but the god stuff is clearly bollox
This site's gender profile.
Amisja comments on Jun 2, 2018:
I think those statistics are probably American centric. I suspect its very different here in UK, or Australia or EU. There are contributors from all over the globe. Having spent many years in online discussion, men are more predominate. I suspect its just that women are generally busier...with that in mind...got stuff to do
