How do you feel about Yes/No voting buttons on comments from lower level members?
Admin comments on May 6, 2018:
Clearly we have an issue if you thought that those buttons are for voting... as they're really for "Make this comment go live to members level 5 or less as it's currently pending a review by us... clicking "Yes" makes it go live to everyone... and we look at it later just in case". Ideas for ...

I like Tyson a lot and normally agree with most of what he is saying. In this interview, he chastises people for putting other people in boxes and then he does the exact same thing. His narrow view (from his experiences) tied all atheist together with an in-your-face attitude. That's far from the truth, but I do agree that the word 'atheist' is negative and who wants to be known as a negative?

At this point, we have cross-contaminated every continent. Did you say you were impressed? Thanks, I had almost forgotten.

AstralSmoke replies on May 4, 2018:
@atheist That's similar to taking a photo, editing it and presenting it as an original. It's true it might 'look' better than the original, but it's not the original. Another, which perhaps you're referring to is in a singers voice, somewhere there's an audience, entertainment of sorts, theater, where exaggeration is needed to convey normalcy. Embellishments are additions which take 'it' further from the truth.
A biologist theologian! Is that an oxymoron or a contradiction in terms?
AstralSmoke comments on May 3, 2018:
I don't think so. A biologist can believe in a omnipotent god. The god is responsible for everything. Biology is just a good way to get a little better understanding of how god works. Works well into current day theology.

@Abbelyne This is my personal take and I'm sure it doesn't fit the majority of thought, but the 'younger' atheist (etc) complain about religions. The 'older' or more mature atheist don't want to talk about it because it's not a part of their lives. It's like talking about Santa Claus every day. This site tries (fairly successfully) to have something attractive for any level of nonbelief. And when people look for justification, approval, or validation, it shows their insecurities. At least that's the way I see it. One good thing about this site is you can choose your own direction.

Thanks for the wonderful interpretation @ArturoS. Regardless, I was referring strictly to the last question posed by @FrankB38 in regards to gmo humans populating Mars. Our species is human, but without (normal, biological) humans humanity is dead, but the concept can continue.
A beautiful skunk I encountered (from a distance, thankfully) while bird watching.

Skunks are funny unless you scare one.
AstralSmoke replies on Apr 29, 2018:
@Insectra. I raised an albino skunk once (de-scented). She was a blast. When I tried to pick her up she'd stomp her front feet and turn her back to me with her tail up. Also had an albino raccoon at the same time and the raccoon loved torturing her. It was similar to the way siblings torture each other.

Does it really say Danger or is that just a joke? And if so, I'm curious if it says "Danger! XYZ is atheist or anti-theist" if a religious person checks comparability. I hope it's a joke for otherwise that demonstrate the type of intolerance we (rightfully) look down upon for the religious ...

@Donto101 I agree, there should be a large danger sign (in red) when checking compatibility with a potential mate. Just saying.
So here is a question.

@Pirate From my questions, I'm sure it's easy to deduce that I don't know much about sailing. I lived in ne Ohio for several years and know that even a small great lake can look enormous. Lake Erie has proven to be a deadly one over the century. The Erie Dover sounds really 'exciting' (lack of a better word). You must have accomodations. What size of crew do you have? Do you have backups? I've been through Buffalo once, but a different story. The film I'm referring to is about two brothers from Poland (?) visiting the US for the first time. I know someone I can ask.

@Pirate Does your team(s) primarily practice on the Erie? I remember a great movie (can't remember the title), but it was a b&w film with two main characters. They were in Cleveland, OH looking out over Lake Erie. You couldn't see a thing. A thick fog made the entire screen gray. It was an enjoyable film.
This may seem trivial to some but I'm really into this point system.

I like how you associate your points to your social activity. I never thought of it like that. I’ve been around since early November, I got to 7 quickly, and it’s been a crawl for a while. I had a bad experience and was gone for about two and a half weeks, I waned after that. But since ...

@Annaleda I'm just ribbin' (teasing). No, I don't see that, but I'm not looking for it either. I had a friend on here who blew everyone away with points (she, unfortunately, is not on the site anymore) and she didn't really care about points. She was just good! I have to admit, it's fun to play around with the points.

This is a tough one. I've tried imagining switching bodies with other people, but have come to the conclusion if that happened I would be just like them and not know the feelings of the body I came from.
