@Lizard_of_Ahaz Completing a wall to secure the border and enforcing the existing immigration laws is a pretty simple plan, but the Dems blocked it, so now we have a mess again at the border.
I have no doubt.

You should place the blame at the Democrat's new no-cash-bail policies. The thugs that were let out of prison for Covid-19 can prey on small elderly Asian-Americans in the morning, they will be arrested, then back out on the street again preying on small elderly Asian-Americans later that same day.

@barjoe I just commented on the headline. It's actually more subtle than that when you look at guys who are in prison. I'm in favor of having them work and paying them a small wage for their work. I'm not sure whether they should be required to work. They should probably just be given incentives to work, but allowed to stay in their cell 23 hours per day if they don't want to work.
A fair question

Fail! Jesus's mother was Jewish, so they could get a reasonably accurate idea what a male Jew would have looked like 2000 years ago. However Jesus's father was God, and as far as I know, nobody has ever sequenced God's DNA. If they had, It would have been big news. :-)
BD66 replies on Mar 17, 2021:
@AnneWimsey That's the story. If Jesus's father was God, you have no idea what God looked like, so you would have no idea what Jesus would look like. So if someone wants to believe a child was conceived by a virgin mother and a father who created 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars, then they can make the offspring of that union look anyway they believe him to look.
I have no doubt.

@barjoe Go to YouTube and search for "Attacks on Asian Americans" You will find that the attacks they show and discuss happen in cities like San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland, and NYC. These attacks are in cities with Democratic Mayors, in states with Democratic Governors. These people don't vote for Donald Trump, they don't look to Donald Trump for guidance. The attacks are not happening in rural areas where farmers paint "Trump" on their barns. However, you, and other Democrats are taking the opportunity to scapegoat Republicans for attacks in Democratic cities and Democratic towns.

@BTHT New York: 47,259 deaths 19,453,561 people Florida 30,224 deaths 21,477,737 people I don't understand why are you subtracting 13,382 from New York's death count. Is the the "Oops" when Cuomo sent the Covid-19 patients into the nursing homes, and you want to start over after that. Even if you do subtract the 13,382 deaths, you still get more deaths in New York than you get in Florida. Florida has a significantly higher population. Florida has more elderly people. Florida's economy has been more open then New York's economy. I don't see how Cuomo can compete with DeSantis on any of these metrics.

@BTHT If you look at deaths per million, Florida ranks #28 out of the 50 states and DC. Florida's 1407 deaths per million is less than the USA as a whole which is 1550 deaths per million. How can you try to make DeSantis the worst governor in the USA when: 1. He has done the most to keep his state's economy moving forward. 2. He probably has the largest percentage of elderly in the country. 3. The death rates in his state are lower than average for the USA. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/ What has he done to be the worst governor?

@Lizard_of_Ahaz It's usually better to try to explain something using the simplest economic models (like the law of supply and demand), vs. much more complex models (like Kuznet's curve). Kuznet may have had a reasonably accurate model in the 1950's when most of the world economies were closed, so you could do analysis on a country by country basis (and during the height of the Cold War). However once the Cold War ended, globalization of production became more common, and the internet emerged, It doesn't make sense to rely on that model.

@Lizard_of_Ahaz When the people with capital get access to labor that is 10 to 100 times cheaper than the labor they were purchasing before, their corporations make more money, and they become wealthier. Do you dispute that?

BD66 replies on Feb 22, 2021:
@Lizard_of_Ahaz There is a supply for labor. There is a demand for labor. The place where the supply curve and the demand curve meet is the price for labor. When the Cold War ended, the supply of labor available to corporations increased by a factor of 5, so the mill and garment workers in New England lost their jobs and the mill workers in India and India got jobs at pay rates of less than 1/10 of the mill and garment workers. It was great for the mill and garment workers in India and Southeast Asian countries. It was great for the CEOs and stockholders of companies engaged in producing clothing. It was terrible for US workers who made their living producing clothing.

@redbai Your numbers are way off. Here are the penalties for not being on an ACA compliant insurance policy. You may have heard that the penalty for not having health insurance is only $95 for the year, but that’s only for certain people. Here’s the full formula. For the 2014 tax year, you’ll pay the greater of these two numbers: A. 1 percent of your household income above $10,000, up to a maximum of $2,448 per person; or B. $95 per adult and $47.50 per child, up to a family maximum of $285. So before Obamacare: 6K/year in premiums for decent insurance. After Obamacare: No insurance plus a penalty of 1% of income per year for not having insurance.

@redbai The Insurance Companies did not write the ACA legislation and sign it into law. The insurance companies lobbied the (either ignorant or corrupt) Democratic Congressmen into creating the Affordable Care Act, which forced people like me to buy insurance from insurance companies regardless of the price. They also forced people like me to buy coverage for all types of conditions whether I wanted coverage or not. @Robecology I have a PhD in statistical signal processing, and Dawkins has a PhD in Biology, so he knows a lot more about Biology than I do, but he's extremely sloppy in talking about statistics and probabilities. If you express an Agnostic's belief in pure probability terms, and Agnostic believes: The probability that some form or God (or some controlling entity) exists is between 0 and 1. Dawkins has stated that an Agnostic believes: The probability that some form or God (or controlling entity) exists is 0.5. That's why his definition is terrible.

There is nothing in the definition that states the probability of God existing is 50%.

@Lizard_of_Ahaz Lots of points there: You still fail as this country uses a progressive tax so all money in the first tier id taxed at that rate then the second tier is used then the third and so on so the actual rate is less than 90% BLD> It was a simple example. and if the company's strategy is right the not only pay very little in taxes on company A but also have happier investors paying larger dividends to them so stock prices go up. In the case of company B they just send the money to an offshore bank and let it sit drawing interest but doing nothing for the economy. BLD> Dividends get paid out of after-tax income, so Company A had $100,000 to split between dividends and reinvestment. Company B had $1,400,000 to split between dividends and reinvestment. That's what made Company B so attractive to investors, so Japan and West German stocks had an amazing run when they were receiving all the subsidies from Uncle Sam. This is the problem we have now with over 30 trillion dollars sitting in banks doing nothing those companies are paying no taxes on. BLD> $30T sitting idle in banks is a problem. They would pay taxes now if they received any interest on the cash. In this country alone we have fake charities owned by billionaires hoarding an additional 1.7 trillion at last count doing nothing charitable at all.... BLD> I agree 100%. Jeff Bezos is sitting on $150,000,000,000 in unrealized capital gains and his ex-wife is sitting on $50,000,000,000 in unrealized capital gains. That money will never be taxed because it will go into the Bezos family trust. The real issue here is you think of sociopaths as altruistic... They only want money and power... BLD> Off topic. Are there any conservative Atheists who don't support Trump?
BD66 comments on Aug 31, 2020:
I agree with bigpawbullets. I'm no fan of Trump, but the GOP is definitely the lessor of 2 evils.

@Adronitis There's the debt, which is close to $25,000,000,000,000 today. The Democrats would put us on a fast-track to bankruptcy and a sovereign debt default while the Republicans have us on the slow-track to bankruptcy and a sovereign debt default.

Not so! He was defending himself. I doubt he'll be found guilty.

@Mofo1953 If you were in the same situation as Kyle R. I'll guarantee you you would not have handled the situation as well as he did. I'm certain I would not have.

@Cutiebeauty I've seen some video footage that shows Kyle R. was part of a large well-armed militia who took it upon themselves to go up and protect certain Kenosha businesses that were targeted by looters. There are a couple clips where the older militia members are ordering him around and giving him advice for how to conduct himself under the hostility they were facing. If he had stayed with that group, he would have never been outnumbered and forced to use deadly force to defend himself.

@Mofo1953 He's clearly guilty of transporting an AR-15 into Wisconsin without following the proper protocols. That's a misdemeanor. He will be found not-guilty of anything else. In the old days, if someone was found guilty of a minor crime, he could either go to jail or enlist in the military. Hopefully they will give Kyle R. the same choices. The military could sure use him.
