Barnie2years comments on Aug 10, 2018:
The Bible is history in the sense that events such as floods, wars, migrations and others probably happened in the general areas and times of the Middle East. Much of what can be found in the modern Bible are events described in tablets from Babylonian times, which were scribed from verbal legends passed down through generations of storytelling. Does that make the Bible a verbatim history of the world? Not by any stretch of the imagination, any more than Native American or Australian Aboriginal legends and wall drawings are accurate depictions of world history for anything more than the small area of territory in which they were told.
MAKING OUT WITH YOUR EX - My ex and I are still friends and we still go out and do things ...
Barnie2years comments on Aug 10, 2018:
Feel luck. My ex just uses me when she needs help with something, (her son, dog, house computer) but if we are together treats me like I have leprosy and keeps a circle of safety around me. That was one of the issues when we were married: I was crazy about her, she treated sex like it was some burden that she needed to accept a few times a month to keep me from being frustrated. She has no other real friends, she is not an easy person to get along with, and I have nothing better to do, so we help each other out. She has taken me to medical appointments when I was not allowed to drive and watches my dog (her dog’s pup) if I have to be away. But those are the only benefits.

Barnie2years comments on Aug 8, 2018:
Love is a powerful emotion and difficult to explain. It explodes, it fades, it changes directions, sometimes it multiplies. Falling in love can be just as hard to corner. Love can be lust, love at first sight, love that develops from friendship, love that builds over time or love that is never returned. It always bothered me when someone said that the person they were in love with lied to them when they said they loved them too. It is generally not that they lied, but that the feeling of love just faded away. The reason is not always evident even to the person who lost the feeling, but it doesn’t mean they didn’t love you when they said they did.
Who has had a positive relationship with a father/mother-in-law?
Barnie2years comments on Aug 8, 2018:
I have always gotten along with my in-laws! In fact, that was one of the hardest parts of getting divorced, not knowing how to maintain the relationship with them. I am still friends with my second wife's mom (my ex passed away a year and a half ago), and love to see her at my son's family functions. She's 80 years old but runs around like someone 20 years younger. I got along very well with my first wife's parents as well.
Question for the women
Barnie2years comments on Aug 8, 2018:
I had very little luck with pay for play dating sites. You know, the ones where you sign up for free, they send you all these pictures of beautiful women that are interested in talking to you, but you cannot unless you sign up for an expensive 30 day plan or a more expensive longer plan. Then once you do, all the lovely ladies disappear and if you get any responses to messages, it is to tell you they are no longer available. But obviously they work for some people, my sister married a Swiss guy she met online and another friend married a Chinese woman who has stayed with him even though he had a major stroke. Just never worked for me.

There was an episode of the Twilight Zone that scared the hell out of me when I was a kid. The plot of the episode was this guy goes through his life, a rough life of growing up, committing crimes and getting caught. Finally, he gets arrested for a murder and sentenced to death. Near the end of the movie, he is in the electric chair, maintaining his innocence. They throw the switch and.... His life starts over, exactly the same. The idea of life being being a loop that keeps repeating itself just scared the shit out of me! I don’t have half the issues you do, but I have told people many times that I consider the ups and downs of life to be the only heaven and hell there is.

Well first let me say that As a man, I would like to apologize for those of my gender who cannot read! As a liberal with many conservative, Trump loving family members, not to mention religious, let me quickly point out that any form of respecting others beliefs by either of these groups is completely alien to their thinking process. In fact, from interactions on Facebook, most of them consider Liberal baiting to be a great sport! As a man, I truly believe that the need to force your opinions on others is less common among women, but I have run into what appear to be female trolls. With online, you can never be sure who you are getting regardless of pictures and names. As long as you read their profiles and scour their posts and comments before responding, you should be able to get some sense of their political leanings as well as their philosophy and beliefs. I generally try to do that before I message someone, though sometimes a person will catch my interest by something they post and I just want to say hi or perhaps get a private clarification of something said or posted. Dating is kind of like a swamp, you have to navigate through all the alligators, snakes, and mosquitos to get to the good spots on the other side.

Impossible relationship
Barnie2years comments on Aug 3, 2018:
The problem I see is not only do you have to overcome the differences between the two of you, but also deal with a religious family dynamic. First, the believer probably has to be a fairly liberated believer. If they are weekly attenders of church, bible studies and other church functions and you choose not to go at all, it could be an issue. As a non believer, are you OK with your children being baptized? Will you attend the service? Will you go to holiday services with their family; church weddings and funerals? Is your partner going to be all right with going to all these events on their own if you are not willing to spend time in that environment? My first and second wife were not Atheists, but neither were they really church going people, mainly holidays and events. I was willing to go for certain activities to keep family harmony. Besides, the more times I have been in church, the more it reinforces how silly the whole thing is, so I had no fear of being converted! ?

Trump’s Boast About Getting Remains From Korea is Collapsing
Barnie2years comments on Aug 2, 2018:
I don't mean any disrespect to these combat casualties or those from any other wars. But war is hell and bodies disappear, are buried in the field of combat, in the case of airmen, obliterated by fire and impact. For those take prisoner, many don't survive long and are disposed of by cremation or burial in unmarked graves. I understand for loved ones and family of those lost at war, the thought of not being certain their loved one actually died or not having an actual body to bury, a scrap of some kind to hold onto it traumatic. But this is how war works. They still, from time to time, discover bodies in the fields of Gettysburg and I am sure other Civil War battlefields. Bodies often work their way to the surface all over Europe from the many wars fought over there. If these remains are never found in areas where we won the battles, they are our allies, there was full access to the grounds, what are the chances that an enemy, closed society like North Korea, would have any real interest in preserving remains for more than half a century? The Vietnamese have been helpful in repatriating a certain amount of remains, but that is a much more recent war. And there are still hundreds if not thousands missing. For Kim and Trump, neither of whom have put their lives on the line in combat to use these remains as political fodder is both loathum and a show for those who have suffered the most. Again, I feel bad for those who never got to say goodbye to a loved one missing or killed in action, but I would be amazed that the containers being sent over from Korea contain actually US soldiers remains. Kim kills enough of his own citizens on a regular basis to fill planes full of boxes of bones.

Barnie2years comments on Aug 2, 2018:
Karma is garbage, like afterlife, hell and heaven. As for soul-mates, since I obviously don't believe in souls it is not how I would describe that feeling, but obviously to me, certain people fit together much better than others, be it their common backgrounds, way of thinking, or just chemistry. Kind of like "love at first sight" that hangs around for a lifetime.

Dealing with barriers
Barnie2years comments on Jul 31, 2018:
Interesting visual presentation of the issue. Some would argue that under the justice panel, the kid is stuck looking through the fence, while the adults have a cleat view, the equivalent of drilling a hole through the wood fence at his eye level. Of course the helicopter parents would say justice provides more safety to the kid than the equity position, so it is really the best. Not picking sides, just making legal arguments! ?

A campaign to blitz the country with ‘In God We Trust’ laws takes root - Religion News Service
Barnie2years comments on Jul 30, 2018:
Any one else notice that the states passing these laws are the same exact ones that fought against abolishing slavery? It is not a coincidence, you can be sure, and much of the same Evangelical zeal was put into denying human rights to people of color that is now going into denying people of other faiths, no faiths, differing sexual beliefs, or sexual identification, their hunan rights. And with a Federal Judiciary presently being stuffed by Trump and the reactionary wing of the Republican Party, it could take another Civil War or over half a century to right these affronts to humanism and personal rights.

They see their savior in Trump, who knows he can guarantee himself support among the believers, no matter what atrocities he has actually committed or is committing by promising to give them more power in government. After a five year or so healing period where we only communicated when absolutely necessary I renewed totally non sexual relationships with two ex-wives. The first was when our first grandchild was on the way, we made peace for our son’s sake. I had no one else in my life, so it didn’t cause any problem. Later on she got metastatic breast cancer. Thankfully I had talked her into going to the hospital where it was diagnosed. She made it through eight years before passing away over a year ago. The last wife left me to move in with her boyfriend. After another five years of little communication, in a tirade she informed me that her boyfriend (the relationship was already on the skids) was ignoring her son. He was a great kid, I loved him as much as I did her, but had stayed away because I didn’t want him to deal with multiple fathers (his birth father never bothered to stay in touch). So when I found out the new guy was not actively spending time with him, I said I would like to spend time with him. It went from that to being the best friend after she finally threw him out. But still no physical relationship, and I still have no other relationship, so at least she is someone to talk to beside the dog. Not ideal, I would love to have more, but since I can’t even get a date for coffee at this point, at least I have someone to drive me to the hospital if I need a ride! ?

When you have a leader who can obliterate people’s sense of reality like Trump does to his devoted followers, the path to violence and genocide is short. I thankfully feel that our country has the moral strength to overcome the ignorance, but it may come at a cost.

Many of you may not know of the Teletubbies, a kids program that was one of the highest rated shows ...

My stepson LOVED the Teletubbies!! He had a stuffed Lala that was bigger than he was! His mom found it at a yard sale. The thing travelled to Slovakia and back and was on his bed until he was 11 or 12 and was getting laughed at when he had a friends for sleepovers. I know his mom still has it stashed somewhere.
Some helpful advice.

My feeling is in my life that many people need me, no one actually wants me. In other words, they don’t give a shit what I need. As long as I show up every time they have a problem to be solved, I’m gold. Since I have nothing else in my life, I take this as the closest thing to a sign of affection. For any real love, I depend on my puppy ? and my hand.
How many places have you lived in your lifetime?
Barnie2years comments on Jul 17, 2018:
Six areas, 11 homes, in four countries. Stopped in 1992, threw out the anchor and have no real interest in another move. I am not even crazy about traveling at this point, thought with the right person I could be talked into a few more trips. ?
How big a factor?
Barnie2years comments on Jul 17, 2018:
The vast majority of humans cannot accept finality of life. It is one of the primary drivers of religion, I believe. They find it hard to accept that they are insignificant and only have a limited time to exist. Even my father, who never stated it was I believe an agnostic, was hedging his bets near the end of his life, and trying to believe in god. As my religious friends like to say, if my non belief is wrong it will be too late when I’m dead to change. If they are wrong in believing, when they die, they won’t know the difference. Doesn’t change my outlook, still don’t believe.
It would be nice once in a while LOL

Do you have a preference as to which side of the bed you sleep on?
Barnie2years comments on Jul 17, 2018:
I extend the life of my sheets. Since I am alone in a queen size bed, I sleep on one side for a period of time. Then I switch to the other side, clean sheets without all the work! ?

Playboy has returned to the crotchless women. Like any other hairstyle or men’s beards, women should never be shamed into depilatating! ?

Prayer at extended family meals
Barnie2years comments on Jul 17, 2018:
For family I will go so far as holding hands, but don’t bow head or say amen at the end. Holding hands with a family member is not traumatic, and the moment (hopefully, some do go on) spent while they mumble some innate nonsense is little price to pay for family harmony. And if someone wants to call me out for not bowing my head, ask them what they were doing looking around! ?
How do you respond when people say they will pray for you?
Barnie2years comments on Jul 17, 2018:
If it makes them feel better, have at it! As long as they are not requesting I chant along.
Who or what do you sleep with at night?

If the are working right they are fine. I’ve been on some, every time you took a breath the damn thing flushed! Like ten times while you’re sitting there getting your butt sprayed! ? Also, you have to be very careful not to drop anything into the bowl. If you do, It’s gone!

Given that Trump really is so awful why are people complaining about Obama?
Barnie2years comments on Jul 15, 2018:
Mostly people on the Right trying to deflect attention from their Dear Leader. The eight years Obama was in office the Right Racist jackals were doing everything in their power to spread lies and disinformation on the first non white president. Add to that a majority Republican congress sworn to do nothing that would benefit the middle or lower class, it kind of makes for a lame duck president. With any luck we can do the same to Trump this November if the Russian don't come up with a means of totally sabotaging the elections.

What I find funny is that those most vocal about flag worshipping are also most likely to be Ten Commandment worshipers. One of those commandments is not worshiping false idles, which in my mind would include a flag. You will never see an American flag on an Amish farm for just that reason. But the religion is overflowing with hypocrisy.
What do you think about cults vs. sects? I have been watching short documentaries about cults - ...
Barnie2years comments on Jul 13, 2018:
I drove route buses in the Amish country for years. I will never forget during the Branch Davidian stand off and tragedy I was working one of our routes that transports many Amish people (they are not allowed to drive cars or even have a license, but they can use public and for hire transportation). Normally the Amish are not overly talkative, though some more than others, especially if there are other Amish onboard. But when the bus was empty or only had English (non Amish) on board they would strike up a conversation. This particular guy had a newspaper with him, coming back from the city and was sitting up near me. After some pleasantries he asks "What do you think of these cults?" I almost swallowed my tongue! LOL Here sits a man with a long beard, no mustache, black clothing and a broad brimmed hat, who is not allowed to drive a car, has to farm using horses to pull the equipment, not allowed to have a phone in his house, or transact business on a Sunday, asking what makes people join cults! I acutally said "some people would consider your beliefs to be a cult." He just kind of chuckled it off and got off at his stop a few minutes later. So I guess the answer to the above would be if you believe in it, it is not a cult but rather a sign of your faith in ??? Something, someone, to whom you have ceded control of your life out of fear of missing out on something? I don't know, I have never felt the need to do that.
