To some degree, I became a teacher - influenced by the good ones not outweighing the bad ones. One of my worst was my 5th grade teacher who beat me (figuratively and literally) into a form of smoldering "behavior," and earning my name on the 5 top students' list. She once screamed at me when I brought up "I thought the Supreme Court said we weren't to pray anymore." Instead of a learning moment, it was a berating one. Without ever saying another word on the topic, a couple days later, prayer before lunch ended. While teaching, Pennsylvania passed a law requiring the pledge, or singing of the national anthem. I was at a private, mostly liberal school at the time. We did not have flags in our classrooms at the time. One of the "patriotic" parents bought flags for the whole school (that family left a year or two later). Without a doubt, he has. In my opinion, part of that can sit right on the EU. They lead him and Turkey on as potential members and while Turkey did make more changes, they were denied membership while lesser financial and military countries were accepted. As a member of the EU, Turkey would have had to change a number of laws and been held to being more secular.

Oh yea, too much of a good thing. When I was in the Navy, on cruise, someone sent a friend a box of cookies. He shared. I came to work, put mine in my pocket for later and then discovered a guy who worked for me had eaten two. A number of people were very worried. I was like - WTF. Sent the kid to bed and told the Lt he was sick and I had a volunteer to do his clean up. Lt thought I was a good leader. I was just saving half the division's butts.
