I remember it. I got "put in my place" when I mentioned to the teacher, after the ruling to end went into place, that I thought the news said we weren't supposed to pray anymore. She screamed at me that we would continue to do so until she decided. A couple of days later, no prayer and no commentary from the teacher.

Read about the Dover PA debacle over the creationist school board installing intelligent design. I lived and taught near there. Counting court costs, they lost around 3 million. Those suing, after the win, and the school board getting canned, only collected their court costs, saving the school over a million, but still nailing the tax payers. That case made me feel less pity on those taxpayers - they elected that board and stood by them for too long. The science teach err s refused to read the required yearly statement about evolution being only a theory and not a proven piece of science. Thus, the superintendents would have to visit the classes and read some bs written by the board. Suffice to say, administration wasn't happy either.

I know. I taught at a number of schools, 14 years at a private and progressive school where my kids went. We had students come there to escape from the horrors of being "different" in other schools. I heard some real horror stories. Also, I had a Korean kid who got sent, from Korea, to us (his cousin lived in the states and went there) because he was physically abused at a Christian school in Korea - he hated christianity.

@Marionville My youngest son, the math prof, was big into Anime during HS and college - no time in Japan, but an appreciation of the culture. He has my street paintings from my few months there. My daughter speaks Thai and did spend her HS junior year there. Speaking of language - when my oldest son was in college, he had a class that required him working with someone in prison for immigration violations. He thought having a Haitian would allow him to use his French. Not so much with the Haitian Creole.

I'm from Central PA and wasn't there for Three Mile Island, but that was an elder and poorly run reactor. From my parents' house you can see the glow of lights from the Peach Bottom reactor, 40 miles South of TMI.

Most of the best made nucs are from Europe. Now some of Europe is going off nuclear. India made a big nuclear deal, 5 or so years ago to build 8 or more reactors. They hired all European companies for all but one reactor and said publicly that picking an American company was pure politics. When I say Europe I am not including Russia. Have you seen the Russian nuclear barges they are selling to small cities? Essentially the barges sit on the water with what amounts to two reactors designed for naval vessels. They can power 50k or more households.
