@St-Sinner Yes - and that idea of asking at the country of origin does not comply with international law. We then need pull ourselves out of international treaties and not expect other countries to follow those rules to which they have signed. Time to ship all the "dry footed" Cubans home, don't you agree? Time to look at all those who lied on their forms, so as to revoke their citizenship - by the way, Melanie Trump lied (well documented that she was working without permission). Should we make it US policy to no linger uphold world agreements we have signed?

@St-Sinner Fine. I'm just defining illegal to you - AND, those coming to the border crossings AREN'T illegals. They can be told no, but they are NOT illegal by showing up and asking. So, the politics of calling them illegal is bullshit. Unless you want to go all North Korea like so many MAGA's - until then follow the LAW - dont just spout your portion of it. Or, break international law, to which we have signed onto and want others to follow.

@St-Sinner the amount of those staying illegally rose precipitously after the 94 laws tightened the ease of exiting, thus many who would come and return home stayed here and never left. That pushed the levels much higher.

Coming to a border crossing is the legal way. Those at the crossings are not illegal. That is international law to which we have signed on to and push on other countries. Illegals sneak in or attempt to do so; most illegals came here through legal means and over stayed their visas.

Beware cat interrogation
JimG comments on Jul 9, 2019:
My son's cat caught and released a mouse at least half a dozen times this morning before he finally got bored and walked away. The mouse escaped. Later the cat came back to search where he'd left the mouse. I think he expected it to still be there.
Beowulfsfriend replies on Jul 9, 2019:
I read an odd theory on why cats play with mice - they don't do do with all food sources. It said the mice don't taste as good and the cat needs to build up an appetite. Note, I don't really believe this, but uh, who knows; or they just enjoy the torture aspect. I do love cats however.

The vast majority of teachers do a good job. One reason so many are leaving - pressure to do so with no reward. Thus, more mediocrity moved in. I just left a part time gig with autistic children - Great kids and coworkers and crappy administration. I'm old enough and past those suck it up days. Sadly the kids suffer due to a lack of good staff staying on.

Less abortions occur when people have unfettered access to birth control and better education. I take the Jimmy Carter approach: I wouldn't want a woman I got pregnant getting one and would support the child, but, I would defer to the woman as it is HER body, her life as well, and her choice (I haven't needed to worry for 30 years - after my planned 3rd child, I got a vasectomy)

JimG comments on Jun 16, 2019:
It's not exactly like soldiers are discharged from a combat zone. You are nondeployable for the final 3 months or so of your enlistment, and at the end of that time you go through out processing that is pretty much the same checks you went through on enlistment and includes medical screenings.
Beowulfsfriend replies on Jun 17, 2019:
Except the Navy, which will send people home in that 3 month window (And that is for more cost effectiveness and not a military personnel's health), then the Navy (at least they were) offered 3 day discharges and a quick get the Hell out. No change in your discharge status - honorable, etc.
