You are correct about men not needing to protect. Those cases are absolutely rare and men stating that aren't being truthful to themselves or others. I have a daughter with whom I and her older brothers are very protective, albeit she is the one calling the family shots so to speak. I am conscious of the pain you have and still suffer. It isn't fair. The only time I ever felt a need to "protect" myself publicly (I was in an abusive marriage and felt as a "man" I needed to take it) was when I taught and would meet privately with any student, male or female, and always kept my door opened. Yea, most of Asia is an experience. I used the hole in the floor climbing Mt. Fuji. You do what you have to do. In the Philippines, which was mostly Americanized I saw some pretty bad places (water buckets with rags). The Mideast and Africa are not much better if you get out of the tourist areas, and without a doubt you should do so.

That said, I try to avoid contact with them.
