There are many who refused to serve due to their said moral objections. I knew people who served in hospitals and such. Yes, someone who avoids doing service for their country is an other matter and I do look down upon if they did so for personal gain. I would support a national service commitment requiring some sort of service by all Americans which could include a multitude of possibilities. Not everyone is cut out for the military. Also, such a requirement for service would be difficult to escape on religious grounds as working with the needy, etc could be qualified.
