To this day I am free of that addiction.

BestWithoutGods replies on Oct 13, 2018:
@IamBane If a person calls himself a Nazi, but does not act on the Nazi agenda (Is that what you mean by your question?), I would like to enlighten him to the fact that calling himself a Nazi makes people THINK he has the same agenda as other Nazis, and will act on it. It gives him a bad reputation. Every morning I ride my bike down a certain street on my way to the park to get some exercize. Two houses on that street fly a Confederate flag. I have spoken to people in the past who wear Confederate flags on their hats, or have them on their license plates. They claim that it has nothing to do with the 19th Century Confederacy, but with today's Southern states, and they are only expressing pride in where they live. However, when rational people see that flag, it causes them to think of racism, white supremacy and slavery, which was the whole reason for the existence of the Confederacy in the first place. So, when I pass those flags on my bike, I give them a thumbs down and say, "No racism! No white supremacy! No slavery! No Confederacy!" I am not protesting the people who live in those houses, but the Confederate agenda. They have their freedom of speech, and are legally able to fly that flag. But I also have freedom of speech. If they are going to protest against "liberty and justice for all," I have the freedom to protest in favor of it. Neither of us is doing physical harm to others. (However, their African American neighbors may feel intimidated.) The people who live in those houses have not shot me off my bike (yet), and I have not done them any harm either. I do not even know the people. They may be ignorant rather than malicious. It is possible, though, that they are among the KKK group in our town. I just don't know. But they need to know that there are people who object to the racism that the Confederate flag represents.

@jorj I would not say, "I hate Nazis." I would disagree with their agenda, resist it, and even fight against it. But if a Nazi is willing to talk rationally, I would gladly sit down with him and expose him to some ethical reasoning. In other words, it is not the person I hate, it is the agenda that I resist. The person may just be ignorant rather than malicious. He might be under a bad influence. If I can help the person to think ethically, I will do so.

You are correct in that posting such evidence on this website is like preaching to the choir. The people here don't need further evidence. On the other hand, though, I think it wise to be prepared to present evidence to those who are not as advanced as we are. For example, I met a Jehovah's Witness at the local park. He initiated a conversation with me, and I read a pamphlet he gave me. In it, the claim is made that fulfilled prophecy is evidence that the Bible is credible. In subsequent conversations, I have been honest with him, telling him that I am an atheist, and I have evidence that the Bible contains false prophecy. He has agreed to read my articles on the topic. I even got him to agree that we should both follow the evidence where it leads. I warned him that I might make an atheist out of him, rather than he making a JW out of me. I suspect he may back out of the evidence-based research at some point, but at least I will have exposed him to some evidence, reason and logic. And it may work on him over time....

@Healthydoc70 True, some animals do eat other animals. Some animals, though, are vegetarians. Most animals are unable to reason things out. They just go by instinct. Humans, though, are able to think about what is ethical and what is not. Do we eat like the carnivore animals, or the vegetarian animals? I think it more ethical to eat a vegetarian diet. I acknowledge that some may disagree. I do not insist on controlling what others eat. But I can and do control what I eat.

Duchessa: I suppose it is possible that the Chinese characters do not show up on all devices. They do show up on my computer, after the Italian line. Ciao e buona giornata.
Any bilingual agnostic here?

My sister and her current husband are both lawyers so they are smart. Neither of them have any education in the sciences, so my sister's husband is getting my sister to believe in some conspiracy theories. I try to give her scientific evidence and she will just say, 'its not enough evidence to ...

Sounds a lot like my brother. He used to email me with propaganda from his political and anti-science ideology. I would respond with facts and evidence. Then he would resort to ad hominem attacks like "Well, you're just stupid." Eventually, he stopped sending the propaganda, though he still seems to believe it. Some people will go to any lengths not to be contradicted. However, I still point out to people what the facts are, and point out some source information. Why? Because I look back on phases in my life when I accepted fallacies as if they were true. When people tried to correct me, I rebuffed them in the moment. However, the truth they offered stirred within me, and I would eventually come to realize that those who tried to correct me were right. Unfortunately, by the time I came to the truth, many of my helpers had moved on, and I could not locate them to send my thanks. Therefore, I can only hope that the seeds of truth I offer people will eventually grow within them. Even if I don't see their fruits come to maturity, I maintain hope that it will happen.

What is it about ?
BestWithoutGods replies on Mar 31, 2018:
It's about how people, because of their biases (political bias, for example), avoid facts and evidence, and cling to falsehoods, conspiracy theories, etc. One major example in the book is the denial of climate science. The book also advises readers on how to react to denialism. I'm just getting to that part at 3/4 through the book.
