My motivation for studying the scriptures was to convince others that they were true. I studied the prophecies of scripture and compared them to history. To my shock and dismay, I discovered quite a few prophecies that were never fulfilled, and the time for their fulfillment had passed. As I continued to study, I found not only false prophecies, but lots of contradictions, and stories contradicted by science. That is what convinced me that religion is a scam based on mythology.

The question is: What do we base our beliefs on? Belief without evidence is called faith, or blind faith. I prefer to base my beliefs on facts, evidence, logic and science. That way, I am more in touch with nature and the real, existing universe. Not mythology and fairy tales.

There's plenty of proof that the Earth is a globe. Ships float and airplanes fly all over the globe, and not once have they come to an edge. You start at one place, and keep going straight North, South, East or West, and you will not fall off any edge. You will end up exactly where you started from. Photos taken from space show that the Earth is a globe. Only the rotation of a globe can produce sunlight on one side and darkness on the other, so regularly. Flat-Earthers need to grow a brain!

I would recommend the Unitarian Universalists. They have the fellowship, singing, a sense of purpose, etc. Also, they accept agnostics, atheists and LGBTQs without blinking an eye. Please, give it a shot. You can find the congregation nearest you at their website: https://www.uua.org/. They were really helpful to me when I needed a transition between church life and atheism.

I did not leave religion because of seeing or reading what others had to say. I did my own research, and discovered false prophets, contradictions, and unscientific stories in the Bible. The more I researched, the more convinced I became that religion is just a scam based on mythology.

Better to break it off before marriage. I was raised to be a Moron (oops, Mormon), and was married to a Mormon woman. We had two children before I did enough research to discover that Joseph Smith, the founding "prophet" of the Mormon church, was a false prophet. I was excommunicated for apostasy, and my wife took the children and disappeared. Later, I was served with divorce papers. I wish I had done the research BEFORE marriage. Anyway, the point is that differences in religion can destroy family relationships. In my opinion, it would be best to free yourself from the JW and find someone who thinks as you do.

I would show evidence that the earth is a globe. There are photos taken from space that would help a lot. Also, airplanes fly, and ships go, east and west across both oceans, and nobody falls of an edge. Further, when it is daylight in the Americas, it is night time in Australia. The time zones prove that the global Earth is rotating.

It's never easy to care for a demented person. I took care of my demented grandmother until she died, and my demented father until he was accepted by a facility for such people. I also helped care for my demented mother, an uncle and a brother. Happily, nobody committed any trickery or thievery. Still, as much as I loved them, it was an overwhelming responsibility to care for them. But there were always good moments, too, that left me with happy memories.

I never was in the closet. As soon as I became an atheist, I was honest and open about it. Some friends and family rejected me and do not communicate with me to this day. But at least I have my integrity intact. This makes me happy. :) (Now, when I say I'm "open" with my atheism, I do not mean that I blurt it out all the time, everywhere. Sometimes it is best to keep my knowledge to myself. But when people ask for my position, or when people try to speak to me as if I were religious, I tell them honestly that I am an atheist. And if they are willing, I reveal some of the facts and evidence.)
