How many members were reared religious vs not religious?
Budgie comments on Oct 13, 2020:
It all depends on what you mean by religious, we went to church on Sunday sometimes said grace before a meal, church on Sunday soon dwindled away especially as we got older and voiced our opinions, I would not say my parents particularly my mother were terribly religious, my father was raised in the cult of catholicism and that affected him for much longer. But as he was excommunicated by the church when he married my mother (when told by a younger much worried member of his crew he told him he was sure he would get over it)
How Barbaric!! 😮🎃
Budgie comments on Oct 12, 2020:

Here's my follow-up article to the priest having a threesome in the church.
Budgie comments on Oct 12, 2020:
Doesn't the church say that they are always open to everyone? Therefore all the person had to do was walk into the church, which would be open to the public as they always state that. Your own home is a totally different situation to a church which while not public property is open to the public. Sort of like making out in the cinema during the movie when you are a teenager.
Atheists sneaking into churches and putting googly eyes on all the Christs.
Budgie comments on Oct 12, 2020:
Probably some kid dragged there by his/her parents. I had to do a teaching round at a catholic school. (I went up to the head of department pointed out I was atheist and could not in any way support their cult, shit the school was lead by a nun, but he refused to change my placement and said I had to learn to work with people I don't agree with. These days I would go to the discrimination board and ask for their support) the jokes those kids told that ragged on god and jesus were a riot I still love On the 4th day God said let the seas be still. And the surfers beat him up.

No worse than the somewhat overweight woman removing her shirt in the middle of the night after blocking the only road out of the cinema I had been at, while picking up a dead possum and detaching her baby from her. The shirt was to wrap the baby in so he/she was comfy on the way home and not running freaking out in my car. They also had to wait until I had placed her safely away from the road while telling her I would look after her baby, and trying to convince the baby that he/she needed to let go. A few cars beeped me I stopped and stared at them while cuddling the baby. They stayed quiet after that. Good thing I wore a good bra to the cinema that night. I have stopped in traffic to help animals many times people can just learn to go around me or wait.

Have any of you or a friend or loved one had a near death experience?
Budgie comments on Oct 9, 2020:
Nearly drowned twice but both times apart from feeling calm and having a burning throat (inhaled water) I did not experience anything but then never blacked out just kept trying to solve the problem or work out that I had a problem and then fix it. One time as a child caught in a rip unable to get back to shore was trying to swim across it but there were waves an adult watching us got to me (they could stand my feet could not reach the seafloor) as I started going under. Second time scuba diving doing a practise of sharing equipment when the reg was ripped out of my mouth as I breathed in as far as I was concerned it was a short amount of time but according to the instructor (a fully qualified dive instructor and a hyperbaric nurse) it was about one minute that I just knelt there with my eyes closed, he rapped on my mask and pushed his reg into my mouth but I could not clear it of water so I spat it out and grabbed my own reg put it in my mouth and purged it. Two minutes had gone by without me breathing, when my mouth was clear of water breathing hurt, I felt weak but okay. We finished the dive and I was ordered to go and sit in the galley with someone to watch me for signs of dry drowning. I timed myself not breathing for two minutes, turns out I could do that easily (at the time I could also swim half of an olympic sized pool without breathing, while doing laps I would only breath every 8 to 12 strokes) I call them near death but maybe not near enough.

Budgie comments on Oct 8, 2020:
Like all cults this is about control and as the men in these cults are loosing control they want to enforce unrealistic ideals to keep women afraid and to allow their own standards. I think they need to fine the families asking for them and if a girl goes to her Dr saying she fears for her own life or expects retaliation if she is not able to produce the certificate then they need to be removed from the family and taken to a safe house to become independent of that culture. Rather than fining the Dr deal with the thoughts and help the women get free of it, treat it as child abuse or threatening behaviour depending on the age of the person.

Budgie comments on Oct 8, 2020:
I just ask them how they can believe in the batshit crazy start of their cult and then walk away. Or laugh into their faces if they have just door knocked. I am a vegetarian so I explain they are all going to hell to be tormented by the souls of all of the animals they killed because my god believes that all animal life is sacred and should be allowed to live and so they are all damned and nothing they can do will help them. Depends on my mood when they accost me.
TW My cousin just posted that it’s been 10 years since we lost her brother to suicide.
Budgie comments on Oct 8, 2020:
A Scout leader and all round lovely man in our small community killed himself. When we pieced together his last two weeks we realised he had gone round to everyone and said goodbye, hard to pick when it was spaced out over time and seemed just like a friendly visit. He was catholic. The local priest said he would not do last rites nor hold a service for him (his body was being flown to his parents their local priest was happy to perform the ceremonies they believed in) So my mum and a few mums went to see him. I was not privvy to the full conversation but they tore into him. (everyone was suffering from survivor's guilt, that they did not see he was suffering and had not helped him) Pointed out that if he had actually been a decent and worthwhile priest then why had our friend not gone to him for help, if he was a competent leader of his flock (our friend went to church on Sundays) why had he not noticed a member of his flock was ailing, etc basically they told him he was a failure and the only way he could in any way put it right was to do what the family and community wanted. He did, no talk of going to hell or committing a sin (The delegation of Mums sat in the front row and eyeballed him the entire service) Yet another stepping stone on my road to atheism. I am sorry that you had to endure this awful and traumatic event. Hold on to the memory of the good times you had and cast away this one of a bitter and nasty old man who decided that traumatising teens was a good goal in life. I keep my memories of our Scouting leader and funny man (I was also a junior Scouting leader in training) who was kind, cared for others. I also keep the memory of my mother's anger at the priest (she was not catholic) and her fight for our friend, the priest I can not recall at all nor the words he said at the service he was irrelevant and worthless as far as I was concerned.

Budgie comments on Oct 3, 2020:
I think it is a good thing that states/Territories can make their own rules up listening to their own medical experts as each has different factors to contend with. I think that as people are the carriers and spreaders of the disease that stopping people from moving around is the best way to slow down the spread. That was determined early on. Since people can not be trusted to do this themselves because a large proportion only care about themselves and think they have the right to do what they want regardless then it needs to be mandated and forced if needed. Each state/territory had to do what was best for itself. If they had not then we would be looking at the same situation as America is facing. And a much higher death rate. Sorry but when there is wide spread of a highly contagious and damaging disease (many of the people who have "recovered" are still suffering from damage caused by the virus and new conditions are occurring ie strokes, heart attacks etc) then it is the medical experts that need to be listened to. Had borders been closed earlier and quarantining been enforced correctly Australia may well be in the same position as New Zealand. Here in the NT we are pretty much back to normal. There is still the social distancing rules in businesses but as we had no community spread (despite people who lied and tried to evade quarantining) we did not have the major shut down seen in other states. We have been able to open up our borders and some people are allowed to come in. All of the NT cases came from people in quarantine one from someone at their home quarantine giving it to the people in the home and then we insisted on hotel quarantine and no spread. (mind you our security guards were not sleeping with the people in quarantine) In the NT the most at risk were protected as the remote communities were shut very quickly. Had aged care been taken as seriously then they would also have been protected. But as your next point shows they were not. Aged care staff have always been underpaid and working at multiple facilities is madness at any time. You could have someone who has been working for 16 hours straight assuming they go from one facility to another doing one shift after another. Many of them also work at hospitals as well as Aged care homes. Some of them are also doing study as they are training to be nurses. This is crazy and increases the risk of a wide variety of conditions not least skin diseases ie scabies. Our Aged care homes here still had the same restrictions as those down south. My aunt in one in Victoria spent many days in her room, her facility was thankfully spared, if her sons could have cared for her at home they would have done so (she is paralyzed down one side after a stroke). I am quite ...

Budgie comments on Sep 30, 2020:
As a teenager I heard this and it was a rally cry for me. It among other things told me that I could do what I wanted that those who said I could not did not understand and/or were scared it helped me to stand up to men. (as a short teenager trust me that took some doing) I stood up for my rights in High School to my male teachers. Most were pretty awesome but some needed to be told clearly what I expected to happen. I do not mean this in a bratty way. I came up with solutions to issues with subject selection and explained why I would not do a subject I did not like just because it fit into the timetable better for them. I am woman hear me roar was an anthem for so many females.

Budgie comments on Sep 30, 2020:
I am not into tattoos and I have a heavily tattooed assistant. Not as heavily as this bloke. I would imagine it is the eyes that affect people more than the tattoos. Children will actually accept him for the person he acts rather than how he looks. If he started getting them due to an existential crisis I would suggest sorting out that issue just for his own mental health. As long as his teaching is up to spec then I don't see what the problem is. We went through this issue when people of different backgrounds (in many different countries) started teaching (at my school we had a parent refuse to have their child taught by a teacher who came from the Phillipines), when openly gay people started teaching, when men started teaching in government primary schools ("they were obviously only there to groom children and were pedophiles") The list of people who shocked others when they dared to teach in primary schools is long and we got past it and children learned and were not harmed in the process. The students will adapt (which after all is something that we are trying to encourage in them) I would suggest that before he teaches in a kindergarten that the children get to meet him in a less formal setting to help them. One were he shows his funny, smiley face not the scary one shown in the photo. If he was able to do the job I would work with him.

Did a spectacular giant stride off a dive boat when the person "helping me" was accidently standing on my fin. Went in head first left the fin on the boat. It was a good 6ft drop. Once got rocked off a boat when the person on the other side did the back roll in and because of the weight differential (they were two or three times my size) the boat rocked so hard I ended up in the drink. This joke had me chuckling at least I have never falling forward in the boat.

So where do you get your morality from if you’re an atheist?
Budgie comments on Sep 29, 2020:
An anthropologist (Could be Margret Mead but I may be wrong) said that the start of mankind was finding evidence of people who had a broken bone that had healed. That was when humans started to look after each other, to help the injured and possibly the sick, to care about others. So my morals come from caring about others and trying to help them. There is a point at which my help would stop (if they bite the hand that feeds them)

Proof that god does not exist or if it does it is an evil nasty bastard is the fact that so many of it's followers are pedophiles, rapists, abusers, that the number of ill perpetuated in it's name should have seen so many of it's followers punished, the earth would see so many lightening bolts zapping people it would be unsafe to go outside. When and how do you reveal past mistakes to new romantic interests?
Budgie comments on Sep 14, 2020:
This is a tough one, what to reveal and when is so difficult and depends on what they have revealed to you what you have in common. I think your opening paragraph is good especially about wanting to build healthy relationships. You have been clear that there are things in your past that might make this difficult but your aim is a healthy relationship and you understand that you are going to have to work at it. Has the guy contacted you since or have you reached out to him? Maybe tell him you think you may have unloaded too much on him at once. Not knowing him and how he reacted makes it harder. I wish you the best of luck and hope once he has time to understand he will be there.

Budgie comments on Sep 12, 2020:
When people thank a sky fairy for helping them to be safe I always ask so the other people deserved to die? All of those animals deserved to die? The firefighters who were injured or died deserved it? If the sky fairy exists it is like the Fae in a Jim Butcher's Dresden series, capricious and not concerned with anything but their goals. They may save you but there is a huge cost. Also how does this happen if they're all powerful sky fairy is in fact all powerful. I have found they don't like it when you call it vicious and capricious and that you will never respect a sky fairy like that.
What the hell is this?? 🤣
Budgie comments on Sep 11, 2020:
Guess they were crap at being a guardian angel then. If the sky fairy is all knowing and all powerful it could stop this from happening. But then more pregnancies end in miscarriage or stillbirth than are aborted each year so I guess the sky fairy does not care. It looks like a drunken angel hanging over a rubbish bin probably about to throw up.

What is the source of non-religious prudishness or disgust at nudity or sexuality?
Budgie comments on Sep 10, 2020:
There is a cultural aspect we accept naked children but after a certain age we expect them to be wearing clothes. There is the social norms we all face you would not go into work in an office with a see through shirt that you might wear to a nightclub. Even makeup etc we are all about projecting an image to make people see us in a particular way ie at work efficient focused on the task, at a nightclub, fun loving, available (to the right person) sexy etc. In one episode of Sherlock he meets Irene Adler and she fusses over how to dress to meet him, she greets him naked and he can not get any clues about her. There is nothing for him to "read" As for me well with someone I trust I am fine but I am not going down to a nudist beach anytime soon I don't like my body enough nor am I confident enough that others would not judge me. Sexuality what people do is up to them as long as it does not involve children or animals. (Children can not give consent as they do not fully understand what they are giving consent to and I am a speciest when it comes to sexual activity) I also dislike relationships where one person has all of the power and control. I am not talking about relationships where one person willingly gives up that to the other but ones where socio economic differences, educational differences, even citizenship status are used to make the other person toe the line. I grew up watching many "mail order brides" as they were referred to come over from Asian countries, their families were poor, they had no education and they married men over twice their age and rarely managed to learn English, (most of the men were European and they sometimes learned his native tongue) many were kept isolated through having children and no support network to help them learn English and to develop skills. Some always looked scared and I am sure a few were beaten if they did not do what their husbands wanted or to his standard.
Do you think these people have the slightest clue what they're singing about in this "modern ...

Too funny just because a song has the words jesus or god in it does not mean they are being used spiritually.
I constantly watch/listen to this at least once a week.

I am sorry that she lives somewhere that she faces this sort of discrimination. As an atheist I actually don't care what cult followers say about me their opinion does not matter. Once you get into that mind set you do not feel worthless just because a cultist says it. You look at them laugh and walk away.
Why isn't there a better word for "miracle" that doesn't have religious connotations?

Did he start the religous talk? If he did then what happens after that he has to wear. I am a vegetarian but don't make a huge deal out of it. Was at a buffet and selected my food went and sat down. Someone else sat down and asked me why I did not have any of the meat dishes, I replied I don't eat meat. When they asked why I said that I could not kill an animal. They then started on me about how if people did not eat meat then the world would be overrun by animals and I had better not stop them from eating meat. I looked at them and asked them why they felt so threatened by me and my choices, to which of course they replied they were not. I then relayed the entire incident for them pointing out I had not commented on their food choice they commented on mine. I gave a reply that made it clear I was the person not eating it I did not say the eating meat was evil or they should not but that I did not, where upon they got defensive about my choice. That speaks to guilt. They were livid and tried to tell me they were not threatened so I smiled sweetly at them and turned to talk to someone else about something else. For the next ten minutes all I could hear was them telling everyone else at the table that they were not threatened by me. When I had finished eating I got up looked at them, smiled as I headed off. They avoided me for the rest of the weekend. If I walked into a room they left it. They also told people that I had no right to tell people that animals are killed for meat. If the adults had not figured it out then I felt really sorry for them.
Facebook stops French man streaming his dying days [cnn.]
Budgie comments on Sep 8, 2020:
I feel for the man and hope he can find a platform to stream to so that others understand what people are asking for. This is not a angsty teenager who is struggling to cope with their life this is a person whose disease is crippling and fatal and robbing them of living a life. People should have the right to choose. It is a pity he can not get to Switzerland to see Dignitas.

Someone obviously wrote this for him because he is not capable of thinking it up for himself. I believe he is now off to his place of birth to mess up our country again by helping them with trade deals he is a scumbag.

Countdown was an Australian music show that played clips or had the artists in studio to play (lipsync) their new releases. It was hosted by Ian (Molly) Meldrum and is credited with the success of more than one Australia band. I remember as a kid watching it every Sunday at 6pm. I think many boys quite liked the Countdown dancers. I remember this song but not the Countdown episode. Arr memories of my childhood.
