60 years on. Are you tired of it yet?
Budgie comments on Sep 1, 2020:
It is sad that nothing has really changed. I also look at these photos and wonder if I was a young adult back then which side of the fence would I have been on. Would I have had the courage to stand up to the institutional racism, to go against family and friends? It gets me thinking.
Just going for a walk...

This from my fundie sister .
Budgie comments on Aug 29, 2020:
Not sure what she is saying. Does she agree with the use of people for experimenting on or against the scientific community as a whole saying that they are experimenting on people and make their own decisions about it being right or wrong and should listen to god who I believe has never made a statement about science experimenting on people. Maybe it is late and my brain is failing to understand. I do know that there was much debate in the medical and scientific community about using the nazi data from their torture and murder of the Jewish people in the name of science. There actually does not seem to be a coherent argument in there.

Budgie comments on Aug 27, 2020:
Teachers are also held to a higher standard. We had a student (special ed unit) go ballistic throw things, get a knife and start cutting up things in the room. We had to call the police in. The up shot was that we were told we were doing things wrong our knives need to be locked away when not in use (the other students were using the cutlery in the drawer to make their lunches at the time) oh and why did he go ballistic because when he knocked at the door no one answered it (with in a minute) as they were helping the students making their lunches and so when someone opened the door he came in and went off. We were told we had done the wrong thing, when he came back to school and started physically pushing staff, throwing things at staff, pointing to staff and saying you're next we were told it was our fault for not dealing with him (he is in care and spends the weekend searching out cigarette butts to smoke and was angry because we did not let him go and find cigarette butts to smoke) when in care he is allowed to do whatever he wants. Because if they try to stop him he gets violent with them and they are not allowed to stop him. If we physically touched him he could charge us with assault but when he throws things and pushes staff we are told we have to deal with it and can not restrain him or respond to the assault we are getting.
Some of these are a bit out of focus but I thought she was really cool! Best I can tell (research) ...

On FB someone put up a post about fetal cells being used and that it was an abomination that people were getting rich on the lives of babies. So I gave them a few facts, the mother does not get any money so it is only the pharma companies making money and they had the right to stand up for their principles and refuse to take any medication that were derived from fetal cells. Was told not to blame sick people who had no choice and that women should accept responsibility for having sex completely ignored the making a choice based on your principles. Same thing here don't have the vaccine if it offends your principles.
Hey everyone, here is a lovely piece of music! [youtube.com]

This song always makes me think of Mildura way back it was being played everywhere, I was visiting family friends and we would all end up down at the local game alley playing space invaders. I was useless at it. Then down to the river for fish and chips while debating if we could swim across it and how big the fish in it were.

Donate to a charity of your choice was there something else she was interested in a musical society, animal welfare, we asked people to donate to Jelly Drops for my father instead of flowers, as he had cognitive decline and did not drink enough. A man in England was starting out a company to help get fluid into elderly people (a lolly looking object that was 99% water), it was up to people if they did. I never inquired. As to the funeral that is up to you I find wakes tend to be more lighthearted stories of the person but again it is your call as to how you feel about it.

Budgie comments on Aug 7, 2020:
Not sure about military but I am a teacher part of our code of conduct states we must support the government of the day "7.1 Support to Government of the Day Employees shall provide full support to the Government of the day regardless of which political party or parties are in office. 7.3 Implementation of Government Policy Employees are also responsible for carrying out decisions and implementing programs promptly, conscientiously and with full regard to Government policy. In implementing programs, an employee’s own values should not supplant those explicit or implicit in Government policy. Obviously, it will be necessary both in providing advice and in implementing programs to exercise judgement as to which facts or courses of action are most relevant or important. Judgement must, however, always be exercised with due regard to legislative requirements, Government policy or a supervisor’s directions together with considerations of equity and efficiency." "9.2 Public Comment on Government Matters Except where required by law, or as authorised by the responsible Chief Executive Officer, an employee must not make public comment on Government matters in an official capacity. 9.3 Circumstances in which Public Comment is Inappropriate While employees, as members of the community, have the right to make public comment and enter into public debate on political and social issues, there are some circumstances in which public comment is inappropriate. These include: • The implication that the public comment, although made in a private capacity, is in some way seen to be an official comment of the Government or of the employee’s agency. • Where an employee is directly involved in advising on or directing the administration or implementation of Government policy and the public comment would compromise his or her ability to continue to do so in an efficient and professional manner. •Where public comment, regardless of the connection (or lack of connection) with an employee’s normal duties, amounts to criticism sufficiently strong or persistent to give rise to the public perception that the employee is not prepared to implement or administer the policies of the Government of the day as they relate to his or her duties." I would imagine there is something similar in the military code of ethics so what he did would be a violation of at least one of these. In my classroom if I talk about the government in a disparaging manner I can lose my job.
Not everyone has had the experience of seeing a Monitor lizard.
Budgie comments on Aug 4, 2020:
Lizards are loaded with salmonella and as I ask the students I teach have you ever seen one brush his teeth after eating rotten meat? The carry so many bacteria and don't fall ill from it. The victim dies from blood loss or just a massive dose of bacteria. Venomous lizards are rare but include the gila monster, mexican bearded lizard, and komodo dragon, I have not heard of a monitor being venomous.

I guess it give people some insight into the person ie are you a tv in the bedroom person or not and some people find others eating in bed gross. I know when I was in hospital I refused to eat in bed. My breakfast would be brought in and I would call for a nurse to help me get to the chair (knee surgery so unsteady and had to have a nurse with me) The one time I ate in bed in the hospital I had food crumbs in the bed when they came to help me to my shower I hated it.

So hard different things at different times but maybe being thoughtful and doing something you do not have to do just to make the other person feel special. ie a boyfriend wrote me a poem (terrible poem very corny) just to show how he felt, that was romantic, I came home from work, tired and stressed, a boyfriend made me a cup of tea and gave me a foot massage that was romantic. Bunches of flowers are nice, but good manners and empathy mean more.

Can not agree with you on that one. If this greedy bastard gets his way then the NT will not be able to close down its borders. We had no community spread and most of us continued on. Schools were still open, bars and restaurants were closed and family gatherings were not allowed, hospitals and aged care facilities severely restricted or stopped visits. People pretty much did the right thing. When a few idiots broke their quarantine it became mandatory at your cost in a hotel or Corona Springs (the old Howard Springs camp for Impex workers which was fenced and could be isolated from all but a few workers) Being a Territory not a state we could have had the federal government come in and wreck everything for us. Thankfully our Chief Minister (and I generally do not have nice things to say about politicians) made the hard decisions early and we are now getting back to normal. HOWEVER, we have had Victorians come in lying and breaking quarantine, I now self isolate more than I did before, I only go out if I have to. We have a vulnerable population in our indigenous peoples as many have medical issues, their communities shut down with only those that absolutely had to going in and out. One of them who controls a wilderness area are threatening to shut it down if the local airport opens as they will not be able to quarantine people. Palmer is just annoyed someone told him no and is throwing a tantrum. He could have had his meeting via skype or zoom this is just grandstanding and shows how little he cares for people in general.

Happy Friday, Everyone! When you're shopping for a hotel, what do you find is most important?
Budgie comments on Jul 26, 2020:
location, in relation to public transport and what I am going to be doing while there, also ease to get to and from my transport to the place (generally plane but sometimes train) I have places in Melbourne and the Gold Coast that I hope are still there when I get to go travelling again. cleanliness and cost followed by places to buy meals. I don't need anything fancy or huge I am mainly looking for somewhere to store my gear and safe to sleep in. Don't need room service etc just basic housekeeping I tell them to leave the sheets and towels until I leave (many of our hotels have this option) But it is nice to come back to a made bed each day.
Good afternoon everyone! What's your favourite mixed drink?
Budgie comments on Jul 26, 2020:
Vodka mudshakes (just like a chocolate milkshake only alcoholic) bundy red and coke, swamp water (pineapple and orange juice (with pulp) add midori, vodka, blue curacao, goes an interesting green colour, freeze (well try to) and you have a swamp slushie.
