Any Stephen King fans out there?
BufftonBeotch comments on Apr 23, 2018:
Is that the one with the werewolf not a werewolf? That one meshes with The Gunslinger world, I think. The Gunslinger stuff is alright. It is just somewhat complex especially if you were to dive into the center. Many of King's works are interconnected. He drops more Easter Eggs than a certain Lepus. His book with an adult Danny Torrence (The Shining) as the protagonist is my favorite King novel in recent years. The title is "Doctor Sleep." And if you fancy yourself pen in hand, "On Writing" cannot be bested.
Do you think that exposing children to fantasy movies and books conditions their mind into accepting...
BufftonBeotch comments on Apr 23, 2018:
Most fundamentalist parents are very opposed to stories like Harry Potter. I'm going to take a while to get back to that point. My son had a difficult time with reading at first, which frustrated him, because he knew he was missing out on some really great stuff. He was still smart for his age, he loved to take things apart and put them back together from about the age of four or so. The reading thing just wasn't clicking for him. This was about 20+ years ago, and I don't know about now, but they were not teaching phonics then. Just endlss lists of memorized words. I found something very similar to the Hooked on Phonics progam for him, but not nearly that costly. Within a couple weeks he went from Sonic the Hedgehog comic books to yep....those 800 page Harry Potter books. Bless JK Rowling and all of those fanciful characters and rollicking romps. She made not just my son, but an entire generation of children eager to read some intimidatingly thick books.

BufftonBeotch comments on Apr 19, 2018:
Not to my face since middle-school for the most part. I've been a near lifelong activist for Progressive causes, so there have been a few verbal arrows from time to time from those with few debaring skills...or facts. Most women get called really horrible things every damned day on social media. But that's not to the face.
Cursive is quickly dying, like shorthand. Are you okay with that?
BufftonBeotch comments on Apr 19, 2018:
I read faxes off the computer screen and enter the data. The majority of which are hand-written. I would be happy if people would just print legibly. Sometimes it takes several attempts to decipher a name or account number. The ability to read cursive, for older texts might be a profitable skill in the future though.

I also knew I had to "fake it", for any lack of a better word, as my mother was of a very extreme nature on the subject. You know your parents better than anyone. But you may need to get to the point self sufficiency first before you speak t them. You are still in school and I admire your will, but there have been kids kicked onto the streets for things like this. A strong will is priceless and something cherished, but it also so worthless it won't buy you a sandwich or a place out of the rain. This can wait until you have found a place of your own. For pulled pork BBQ usually yes. for hot roast beef even more so. For pastrami or a Reuben almost always. For meat ball sub yes. Hot ham and cheese no. Hamburger generally no. I can be weirdly specific. No hatin' lol. Looking more closely at that, I guess it has to do with saucy sandwiches not becoming a drippy sloppy mess too fast.

I am able to shock people with a prediction or insight fairly regularly, but I don't really see that as anything outside of normal (or paranormal as it is called.) I think my perceptions of people's moods and outside events was just honed to hyper-sensitivity during my childhood. It was not horribly abusive. But it could get dramatic. And I don't like personal drama.

Do animals have "souls"
BufftonBeotch comments on Apr 8, 2018:
I said no because I hate the word "soul" and all of its implications. Dead is dead. I do not believe in any sort of awareness after death. Now. If however you are asking if animals can have an awareness of self. If an animal can then have an awareness of others outside its own self. If an animal can have the capacity to love or hate?. If an animal has the capacity to choose to be selfish or altruistic? If an animal can choose to kill for the joy of killing or if they will intervene in a thrill kill or even just bullying? If that is what you are saying. Then yes. Animals are are way more self aware and conscious than we generally want to acknowledge. It means we humans aren't that special as all those books say.
