Just finished reading "The Virtue of Selfishness" by Ayn Rand.
Sooz comments on Apr 11, 2018:
I read her in high school, but since then I've learned how awful she was, what a terrible writer she was, and I'd recommend her to NO ONE. Unlimited selfishness is not a good thing. The world has enough of that, in my opinion.
BufftonBeotch replies on Apr 11, 2018:
Her writing is some of the worst I have ever seen. And yes she was an awful person. She once praised a man that kidnapped, raped, tortured and murdered a little girl. At the place where the exchange of the ransom for her release he had propped up her body with her eyelids sewn open. Ayn Rand expressed admiration for this killer as someone who knew and lived true freedom. She was about as sick and twisted as a human can be. Also, she railed and ranted against any sort of thing such as public assistance for the elderly or SSI. (Which is funded by the workers who will eventually profit, btw and is not an entitlement program.) But guess who took every dime she could once she was eligible?
Prayer at extended family meals
Jlangston70 comments on Apr 11, 2018:
If it is not your house, you have no right to demand everyone abstain from prayer. Besides, the arguments and family turmoil aren't worth it. When I attend a dinner or event where prayer is said I simply remain silent. I do not bow my head, and I certainly don't say "amen". Just watch in bemusement ...

On the other hand a request to say Grace in her home should be refused. Or there are non-religious "blessings" or inspiration sayings that she or another family member could offer if the gathering is in her home.

BufftonBeotch comments on Apr 8, 2018:

wordywalt comments on Apr 7, 2018:
The word is censored. I do not believe that your assertion is true. Censorship was much more prevalent in the 1940s and 1960s. I see almost no censorship today. Who is censoring what?
BufftonBeotch replies on Apr 7, 2018:
There is some confusion with some people as to the evolution of societal norms with some people seeing this as imposing on their rights. Things like it is no longer acceptable to use racial slurs...or call someone a r_tard or a f_ggot. There are actually people that see this as an imposition on their freedom. Really. They like those words very much.
