Carin replies on Nov 17, 2018:
I lived on the Big Island about 25 years ago & visited all the others except Ni'ihau. My votes go to the Big Island (Hawai'i) & Kauai for nature stuff. & The Island of Hawai'i is the only one with an active volcano too. It's in a national park & generally they let you get pretty close to the hot lava. If you go at night you can see it glow! Kauai is the only island without those nasty mongooses too, so they have more cool birds including colorful feral chickens. We didn't find much to do on Molokai & left early. Lanai'i was a bit better & very peaceful--good for a couple days as it's quite small.

@Holli, @UUNJ That's just my opinion...I do agree that a short message warrants no more than a short answer unless you want to write more.
I was blown away after being shown the story of the Egyptian god Horus and how Jesus was so similar.

Most Christian rituals were stolen or copied, probably to keep the pagans happy during the dark ages
Carin replies on Oct 24, 2018:
I went to Catholic school in the 1970s & the nuns showed us a film about their work in India. They were trying to take over a "pagan" holiday honoring one of the godesses by substituting the virgin mary for the goddess in the images & pageantry. The locals were apparently more willing to accept a foreign religion if they still got to celebrate their traditional holidays.

I'm female & I agree with you. The OP sounded kind or demanding to me. It's OK for a conversation to start small, & in my opinion it's not much of a conversation if one person demands more of the other person than they themselves are willing to contribute.

@Holli, looks like you may be asking too much for some of the guys. I find it **incredibly appealing** if a man mentions just ONE interest from my profile. In a brief sentence. And closes with his first name. It's called civility (I think), and it would make my whole day!

@darthfaja I would like to hear of a case in which a vegan died from lack of B12. Seems like while it makes sense theoretically, It doesn't seem to actually happen much at all. Maybe there are enough bugs in all that organic produce to supply it? It can also come from bacteria.

Our natural diet includes meat, but our higher functioning questions the ethical nature of killing other animals. I at once think it’s silly to argue that eating meat is unethical (it’s what we are), while at the same time finding hunting repellant. I would hunt if I had too, but I find ...
Carin replies on Oct 24, 2018:
Despite being a vegetarian & believing in animal rights, I tend to defend people who hunt for their meat. If you think about it, a deer or whatever gets to live a normal, natural life & then is killed, hopefully fairly quickly. Compare that to an animal that has lived in confinement all its life, unable to do most of its natural activities, bored & stressed. Then it's loaded into a truck, possibly by someone who uses a cattle prod to shock it painfully. Surrounded by other terrified animals, it may be trucked a very long way with no food or water. Then the stress & fear of the slaughter house but hopefully a fairly painless death. I'd rather be the deer, wouldn't you? Trophy hunting & just killing for fun--in my mind those people are sick in the head.

Has someone become ill? Seems incredibly unlikely that it would be the result of a veggie or vegan diet. Humans don't need to eat meat, that's the bottom line. @Lukian It's even simpler not to worry about it. Actual cases of B12 deficiency are extremely rare. Once you get to a certain age they test your blood levels no matter what your diet is anyway.

Why do you say we have no choice but to eat meat? We are fine without it. I've been vegetarian about 35 years, had 3 big healthy babies (including a set of twins, each being the size of a normal new born) & nursed them for years. I don't need any supplements & my health is good--very normal blood pressure, pretty low cholesterol, pretty normal weight, normal B12 levels in my blood & no chronic diseases that some other people in their 50s are starting to get. I'm sure I'd be worse off if I hadn't stopped eating meat & drinking milk.

Nardi comments on Oct 4, 2018:
I don’t think any animal whether farmed or wild wants to die or anything that’s alive for that matter. So it is unethical but the alternative is your own death. So I’ll eat meat and vegetables without hesitation.
Carin replies on Oct 23, 2018:
Your argument is rather silly, but it's also erroneous. You'll kill fewer plants by eating them directly rather than processing them through animals first. For instance, my 4 smallish goats eat about a bale of alfalfa a week. The bales weigh about 85 pounds. They also consume several pounds of grain & pellets a week. Now IF I killed them & butchered them today I'd get probably 30 to 40 pounds of meat from each. Maybe the weight of 2 weeks of their feed, but they had to eat that much food EVERY week for a whole year or longer. Most of it turned into poop, not meat! If the land that was used to grow their feed was used to grow food for humans instead, it would feed a lot more people than the 4 little goats' bodies, & a lot fewer plants would be killed. Have you ever heard of fruitarians? They only eat what plants give up willingly, like tree nuts & fruits. I don't know if the consider the seeds of annual plants who have gone through their natural life cycles & died fair game. But I don't think there are many fruitarians...

Carin replies on Oct 23, 2018:
A lot of it is poor nutritional knowledge including how to read food labels. Potatoes are very cheap & filling & do have a little vitamin C. Cabbage is a cheap nutritious vegetable that keeps well. On the other hand, apples actually don't have a lot of vitamins in them. Oranges are a much better choice.

I have no idea how many perverts that he barely knew know where we live, have been in my bed & seen the kids' pictures on our wall. I just can't stand it any more. I feel like I was mostly numb for almost a year, then found out more bad stuff & have been trying to figure out what to do for several months. But I'm finally doing it!
