I turned the cable off during the Iowa primaries. I live close to the Nebraska/Iowa border, so we got all the commercials twice. Anyway, I glanced up one night and saw Ted Cruz's face in my living room. I got a Roku and cut the cable. So I have no clue what is on. I used to watch The Big Bang Theory...

There are intelligent reasonable knowledgeable people who do impeccable research into vaccines and have found problems. There ...
Carin replies on Jun 7, 2018:
Yeah, maybe I should have voted "other." Most of the anti-vaxxers probably wear tinfoil hats but there have been problems with vaccines too. The thing is, the diseases themselves would kill or harm many more people than the vaccines to prevent the diseases do. Of course that's no consolation if it's your child that suffers permanent damage.
I think I just proved Darwin wrong.
Carin comments on Jun 7, 2018:
It's actually true--the less education a person has, the more kids they have. Numerous studies have shown this. Maybe Mother Nature is saying we're too smart for our own good?

@Surfpirate I know!! It's so depressing. It turns out to be a similar situation with Betta fish--the male is accused of killing the after she's spawned & he's "done with her." Creepy, right? As it turns out, the father fish is a fierce guardian of his egg nest & just doesn't want ANYONE around it. But in a small tank the poor mother can't flee far enough away to avoid being seen as a threat to the eggs, so he kills her as he would any other fish who would not leave his nursery area.

From what I understand, kosher laws evolved because at the time there was no other way to keep foods sanitary. But then they got written up in the old testament as some sort of sacred ritual, so of course after that you never questioned it.

@Morganfreeman A bit off topic, but Kosher & Halal slaughtering methods forbid stunning the animal first so it's generally considered less humane.

Dental decay was not a huge problem till agriculture began. Starches from grains stick to your teeth & also affect the kinds of bacteria that live in your mouth, favoring the decay causing kinds. I attended a talk by a dentist & researcher at a breastfeeding conference. He studied ancient teeth from babies & toddlers who died before & after the beginning of grain agriculture. Evidence showed that decay increased greatly when people began eating a lot of grain. Even unweaned babies (before they began eating solids) began to get decay since humans get our flora from our mothers after we're born.

smashedbottle comments on May 29, 2018:
I view it as genital mutilation, but every girl I've ever talked to are creeped out by the uncircumcised ones. Also, while I wished part of my dick hadn't been cut off, it was decades ago and everything is ending so what does it matter?
Carin replies on May 30, 2018:
It's just whatever is the cultural norm...in most countries circumcision is uncommon so obviously normal penises would not creep anyone out. In my state at least, the majority of baby boys are no longer circumcised (my twins certainly are not) so the times they are a changin'. What really turned the tide was when the program that pays for low income people's medical care stopped paying for it.

I don't think blessings are limited to the religious sort, & I always say bless you. But some people say "Gezuntheit" which I'm sure I've spelled wrong. It means health in German. Really that's a bit more meaningful, isn't it--hoping the person isn't coming down with something. Incidentally, I read that they used to think your heart stopped when you sneezed & that's they blessed you--in case you died or maybe to make sure your heart started again, I don't know.
