Your photograph is missing. You know what I just put in my freezer? A small piece of disassembled furniture! It's a good way to kill wood borers or other insects.
Something tells me that his faith was an insufficient shield from those arrows.

Carin comments on Nov 24, 2018:
My concern is that it can be abused by relatives or others. Several years after the Netherlands legalized physician assisted suicide an investigation revealed that the required protocols were often not followed & some pretty questionable cases were uncovered. I don't know if the weaknesses in the system have been corrected or not.
"Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect.

For sure! It may be that it's still the right thing to do, but reflection is always good.
I don’t celebrate Christmas, I don’t have a Christmas tree in my living room, there’s nothing ...
Carin comments on Nov 24, 2018:
Everything you say is true but we still celebrate it non-religiously. I never taught my kids to believe in Santa, as it's misleading them & also removes the spirit of generosity from gift giving & receiving. I see it as an opportunity to teach them not only generosity, but also to really think about who you are shopping for & picking a very special & personal gift for them--or better yet, to make gifts.
Why are women more inclined toward religious belief?
Carin comments on Nov 24, 2018:
Girls are raised, generally, with a strong emphasis on following the rules & being "good" much more so than boys are.

Carin comments on Nov 23, 2018:
Someone said that Black Friday was America's version of the Running of the Bulls. I think they may be right....it's sort of become a cultural tradition.

Hello everyone I have just joined this group.
Carin comments on Nov 23, 2018:
You sound like me, except I see it as a way to be useful in this life. Listening to someone is often my good deed of the day. Maybe try wearing dark glasses? It makes people more unapproachable.
I'm not single but I like talking to people
Carin comments on Nov 23, 2018:
Hi! Me too. I met someone nice here but I still enjoy this group.
Happy Black Friday. This is the American version of running with the bulls.
Carin comments on Nov 23, 2018:
You really hit the nail on the head there--great observation!
I love a good deal as much as anyone, but Black Friday is just ridiculous.
Carin comments on Nov 23, 2018:
I agree!! Do people actually enjoy that? Kind of reminds me of that show The Purge. At least one Black Friday death has been reported--a shooting. Now that's some serious bargain hunter there.
Day after breakfast. Thumbs up or Down?
Carin comments on Nov 23, 2018:
Two thumbs up for the deviled eggs, but give me some chocolate for dessert.
Anyone have a great Black Friday score?
Carin comments on Nov 23, 2018:
At least one fatal Black Friday shooting reported so far. I've never gone shopping on Black Friday--I'm a pacifist.
Do any of you do this? I rarely have much because I always forget to take the shot!

Saudi Arabia only murdered an American resident.
Carin comments on Nov 23, 2018:
Right. Something else that didn't get much press--Saudi Arabia just beheaded a Filipino maid for killing her employer as he was raping her. Countries like that should be on some kind of black list. We should have no dealings with them at all--like we did to Cuba, except with good reason this time.
How many fingers do you have? count them carefully.

Anybody cooking tonight?
Carin comments on Nov 21, 2018:
Just salad tonight. For thanksgiving/indigenous persons day, likely just mashed potatoes, gravy & cranberry sauce, & of course salad, for me & the kids. We've only been here about 8 days & I don't have any work yet. The kids don't really like the other stuff anyway. I like to go to a park or walk down a nice country road after thanksgiving dinner.

Carin comments on Nov 20, 2018:
Reminds me of a joke. An old man sees that a friend of his has just married a beautiful young wife. He pulls his friend aside & says "You're almost 70 years old! How on earth did you convince such a gorgeous young woman like that to marry you?" His friend answered, "Oh, it was easy! I told her I was 98 & rich!"

I think the only thing I miss about church is singing in the choir.
Carin comments on Nov 18, 2018:
There are many secular choirs. When my friend's mom was dying a special choir came & sang to her. That was what they did, & they called it "singing them across" or "singing them over" or something like that. Apparently it was very beautiful & touching.

Carin comments on Nov 18, 2018:
That is funny! I used to take it as a compliment when people told me I was easily amused. I had not heard that insult before, & I thought it meant I was good company. I mean, people like it when you laugh at their jokes, right? Oh well, to heck with them. At least I'm having a good time.
Excited for Xmas!
Carin comments on Nov 18, 2018:
Was that your tree last year? It's lovely! My Xmas this year is going to be really different--my 2 big trunks of ornaments & decorations are back with my ex to be & I probably will have a very tiny budget for gifts for the kids, leaving pretty much nothing to spend on decorations. The kids & I always go out in the woods & cut our own tree for free, but there may not be much on it this year. I was thinking of just getting a very tiny one & looking for things like pine cones or holly sprigs to decorate it. It could be nice.

Carin comments on Nov 18, 2018:
Vegetarian Thanksgiving doesn't have to be as dreary as one might expect. I get a pumpkin on sale after Hallowe'en & fill it with a traditional bread stuffing (made with vegetable broth & with mushrooms added for a little "meaty" texture) wrap the stem in foil so it doesn't turn black, rub it with oil & bake it. The pumpkin turns a lovely bronze color & makes a very striking centerpiece at the table.
