While I'm aware of the unbalance , the question becomes , am I that desperate ? SO let's look at the Arab countries . Having seen what the regulations are against women there , why would I want to go there ? It's bad enough here . Also , I've met a few women who came to this country looking for husbands . I doubt anyone wants to see they are being rejected , without someone even getting to know them . However , they did get to know themselves . The plan is to not have to hurt someone else or themselves by having to reject someone they know will be outside of what they want to build their life around . For instance , my grandfather , my father , and my brother were all smokers . I had to live with all three when I was a teenager . I know what that was like and never want to have to live that way again . I am not rejecting a person . I am rejecting a habit that makes my life bad . I don't have that in my life now , haven't for several decades and have no desire to live that way again . On the other hand a friend who is a smoker , has dated numerous women who don't smoke , who gave him a try . After dating for some period of time , he has repeatedly ended his relationships with several because , among other things , they don't like his smoking . It's an addiction . Even though he says he's given it up for long periods of time before , that does not mean he has any intention of quiting for good , ever .

I have not seen any statistics on this , but I seem to see a lot of folks in their sixties and seventies here . I rather suspect , if you were raised in a religious environment , you most likely accepted it up to a point , before breaking away and firmly deciding what your current beliefs are . Even after you made your choices , you didn't necessarily find this site right away , after there were other things your life was giving tip priorities to .

I saw three different doctors and even made a trip to the emergency room for a swollen red lump on the inside of my foot , above my arch . Eventually a podiatrist took an x-ray . I needed better arch supports inside my shoes . The damage had a connection to my diabetes .

Perhaps the 1950's & 60's . I rather like having indoor plumbing . Some of the major illnesses were finding vaccines . There didn't seem to be as many serial killers or mass murders as now . While those periods of time were far from perfect , I think generically speaking , the average life , was in a good place. Didn't have everything we saw advertised , but we had what we needed . The general population wasn't as whiney .

There are a lot of instances were archeological sites were ripped off and antiques were shipped to private collections and museums in foreign countries , never to be seen by the natives again . And yes, some put great store in the histories that were stolen from them , particularly where their cultures and languages were supressed by invaders who dominated the original natives .

Was just looking at the photos from Hurricane Harvey , of just one year ago . Harris county , in Texas , was severely flooded . Flooding here has become routine , but this was abnormally so . They've finally gotten to the point where they've decided they need to do something drastic to prevent future flooding . They've been raising the earth level before building new housing developments , which means all nearby homes already in the areas , are going to be getting even more run off flooding . they decided to clear out streams **upstream ** which means more flooding of all the homes downstream , with no relief for the downstream homeowners , as it has nowhere to go . Houses in my subdivision which flooded , had to remove and throw out everything from their first floor levels , because the flood waters were contaminated from a sewage plant . I have to admit , I emphathize with those folks in India . Know just what it feels like .

So we've had a lot of rain lately and now there are mud puddles in the yard.

I retired about eleven and a half years ago . I moved into the home I had selected for retiring to , but had some difficulty selling off my previous home , so cash was a bit tight , until my previous home sold . Things have gone well since then . I've always been careful with my spending , which has served me well , and continues to do so . If I question an expense , I try to look at it from the point of view of , is this a splurge or is this an investment ? For instance groceries are an investment . If I don't buy groceries , I'd eventually starve to death . On the other hand , a trip to an expensive resturant , would be more of a splurge . For the most part , it's less expensive to eat at home . On the other hand , if I'm too far from home to eat there , a resturant meal , could well be an investment . I also find habits can be expensive . If I go to a movie and make a habit of buying popcorn and a soda , I do that without thinking , and buy without actually wanting it . It makes me fatter . Neither the salt nor the sugar are good for me . If instead , I make a point of having breakfast before I leave home for the Sunday morning movie , I don't need a snack at the theater , and I get a discount theater ticket .
