Some thirty years or so ago , my Mom began calling me by my cousins' names . Last time I went to visit , about two years ago , I lived in their apartment , with them , for about ten days . Each time her husband spoke with her about me , he would say , "your daughter , " and my name . Not once did she call me by any name at all , and I'm totally sure she had absolutely no clue as to who I was . She died May 29th of last year , at the age of ninety nine and a half . I noticed I had difficulty remembering some words long ago , but could describe what I wanted to say , and recognized the right word , if someone else said it . I pushed my doctor and they finally tested me , and decided I might be in the early stages . I do take a medication , which they said would not cure it , but would slow down it's progress , and I believe it has . I noticed someone here has written there is a connection to diabetes , which both Mom and I acquired , so there may be a connection there . While you often see films of people in the final stages , with consistent good medical care , it can be very slow to develop . I was diagnosed with diabetes about 29 years ago , and began suspecting alzhiemers about twenty years ago .

So, here is the Southwest we get blazing heat and too much direct sunlight --if that's possible!-- ...

After reading a lot of the comments here , I've been giving thought to the concept of choosing to be with someone of a lower education . Although I do admire many who have not earned a college degree , for reasons of their own , (my very best friend quit school at 15 ) , I am finding that those who have not earned one , in order to maintain their own self image , seem to need to cut others down , to whatever level they find themselves at . Another mother-in-law comment , "You can't mention that , it will hurt his ego ." So for decades , I wasted my own potential , didn't become all I could be , so that I wouldn't hurt his ego . And I learned to hate myself for it . I grew , after I removed the millstone from my neck . If me , being who I want to be , hurts who you are , then I don't need you in my life , because it , obviously , won't make either of us happy . Thank all of you , for opening my eyes !

I don't ever recall demanding knowing anyone's educational level , before deciding to be friends with them . On the other hand , if I'm in need of surgery , I sincerely hope the surgeon is well educated , and fully certified by a well administered panel . People can be educated or uneducated in specific areas of learning , without being educated in other areas , which does not mean either the college or high school grade should be considered a snob for being proud of what they've accomplished . On the other hand , I've hired supposed professionals , from plumbers and electricians to surgeons , who should never be allowed to do the jobs they've supposedly been trained to do . A half ass job , with or without a paper certifying your training , is still a half ass job . I do , however , enjoy being around people who are enthusiastic about their interests , and am totally not interested in being around people with absolutely no ambition , who's only thoughts are about critisizing others with ambition , who do get ahead , while whining about the fact that their own income is less because they've made no attempt to improve their own abilities . I got to know a man who dropped out of high school , then let his mother support him for over 20 years , who felt he had as much right to be CEO of a huge company and pull in a 6 figure income, as the man , who learned his trade , came up with the original ideas , started the company , and ran it for over 40 years .

While I do think your ollas are a more professional and attractive solution , you can easily control the flow from the plastic bottles by reducing the size and quantity of holes , and also by replacing the lid . Water flow slows , when air can not enter from the top of the bottle . Using recycled plastic bottles is cheaper , easier , and effective in drought prone areas , unless , of course , you have your owl kiln .

I'm like you . Not interested in the bar scene . When I was younger , I signed up with my local hospital and worked Sunday afternoons with the emergency room personnel , receiving incoming patients . My eyes aren't good now ., so I do not drive at night , however , I do spend Saturday afternoons playing D & D , with friends who do play night games . I was also involved with the SCA , which has events nearly every week-end. My LARP group also has frequent events . I also like SciFi /Fantasy Cons , you can find out about those online . People involved with these kinds of things , also get involved in other things . While doing these things , I met a couple interested in ballroom dancing . Someone died and left them money , so they decided to have a nice house built . They told the builder , they did not want a garage like the other homes , instead , they wanted a ballroom . Then they decided it wasn't near as much fun dancing all alone , all the time . They held a panel at a SciFi Con and taught simple ballroom dancing . Then they invited everyone to come to their home the first and third Sundays of every month for several hours of ballroom dancing . I later learned about a group which met much nearer my home , in a police social club building for Zidaco dancing , once or twice a month . What interests me , may not be of interest to you . One of my daughters became interested in Civil War re-enactments . She also became interest in volunteer work and trained to be an EMT , and spent some of her time hanging out at her local firehouse . My other daughter became involved with a group similar to the SCA. I see postings online about Rennies (interested in Renissance Festival ) all the time . Some of these folks , buy season tickets , come out to the site every weekend . I have one daughter , who now plays in horse shoe team tournaments . I guess , the best thing would be for you to decide what types of things interest you , join groups involved with that interest , and look for other related groups you find out about , at that initial group . Not being as professional as you , I saved empty gallon plastic jugs , poked tiny holes in the bottom , and planted them with the plants . when I water the plants , I fill the jugs , and the water slowly seeps out so the roots are being watered , instead of just the tops .

When dictators take over , the first thing they do , is burn books and dispose of the educated people . Admittedly , there are books that are so very ugly , that I do wish they were burned . On the hand , I think some instances , banning a specific book , only makes them more tempting to some readers . There are some books which , in another period of time , were banned , but which are now on the required reading lists . in some schools and colleges . I believe , "To Kill a Mocking Bird , " fit that last bit , and it was about a trial in the deep south . In some periods of time , it was the Catholic Church that published lists of banned books . As strange as it may seem , for a long period of time , the Bible was not written in a language the parrishners understood . Of course , these days , information is broadcast over the internet , and some of what is routinely published electronically , can be terrorists orientated , and threatens life , as we know it .

Decades ago , the Agency I worked for , decided to have a picnic , so we could meet others who were a part of our group , but worked in another building about 10 miles down the road . There were a couple of small boys who wanted to play baseball , but their parents weren't interested . So , I took them over the hill to the baseball field , and the three of us started playing . A guy noticed , and asked someone else to introduce us . We spent the day together , and at the end he walked me to my car , which was filled with the last load of drywall , I had removed from my bathroom . I had forgotten that still filled the rear passenger area . He had recently graduated from the Air Force Academy . A few weekends later , he came to help me remodeling my home . The day was spent ripping out more wallboard , or perhaps putting in new , while sharing puns . "Knock , knock . What are you doing ? I'm looking for a stud ." He showered afterwards , but since he didn't have clean cloths with him , I loaned him a pair of dark shorts and a tee shirt , which was two sizes too small . Yum, yum ! Intelligent , educated , constructive , fun , enjoyed helping me with a constructive project , perfect in a tee shirt ! ! And then I helped him get them off again .

I can remember the first time I had a case of poison ivy , my Mom used an old pillow case to make a very loose fitting pair of gloves for me , and soaked them in a combination of water and witch hazel , then wrapped a towel around both of my hands , in order for me to be able to sleep at night . Years ago , a study was done among prisoners . One thing that the study brought out , was that many in prison claimed that they were abused as children . Today , many parents are afraid to discipline children , because , if they are reported for abusing their children , the , "Child Protective Services ," will remove the children from the home . Since these amended rules were put in place , there has been a terrible increase in the number of school shootings , and children bullying other children and teachers , as well . And even the schools , seem to be doing little to nothing about correcting in school bullying . Then as adults , they still feel they have the right to commit mass killings , when they get angry . I think this is one experiment which is failing .

It's been 28 years since my doctor diagnosed my osteoarthritis . For me , it's a slow spreading disease , but , even though they recommend light exercise , I've only found that makes things worse . I would suggest swimming as it's no impact exercise to help give some muscle exercise , without so rapidly destroying your joints ,

I had concerns about a huge tree in my neighbor's front yard , and asked him to trim it . Said he was too busy and didn't have time . Some six months later , the weather bureau was forecasting a hurricane . I walked across the street and started taking pictures of his tree , next to my house . He came out and asked why I was taking the pictures . I replied that I was concerned that some of the rotten branches might fall on my place . He said don't worry about it , my insurance would pay for any damage . I answered that it would be his insurance company paying , not mine . He immediately trimmed it thoroughly , before the storm came through .

If you look at all the people/things people say they love , the only thing they all have in common , is they make you feel good about yourself . So let's look at your favorite pet , for example . Let's say someone gave you a puppy when you were young . The puppy is cute , it smells good , it's excited and wiggles all over the place . It follows you around , happy to be in your presence , plays with you , and makes you laugh . You look at your parent and say . Can we keep it . Then it chews up your homework , pees on your floor , needs to be fed , watered , and walked . Then you feel more like you're it's slave . You grumble . My little brother was born when I was a year and a half . Dad was away in the military , and I remember when I first met him , close to my brother's birth . So Mom had her hands full , with two babies . They didn't have today's conveniences then , so I can imagine how difficult it was on her . At any rate , my early years were along the lines of Spanky and Our Gang . I often meandered around on my own , a lot . When I was 5 , we moved , "to the country ." Mom made a point of going to the library , each week , and getting as many books as her library card allowed , some for each of us . I remember her reading bedtime stories from a book of myths , she'd been given as a child . Again , I spent a lot of my daytime time meandering around , on my own , when school wasn't in session . When I retired , I bought a home for my retirement years and moved south . Within weeks , I hired a company to mow the lawn , and they still do this for me . Next , I located and hired someone , to take care of the pool . A year ago , I hired a young man to help me with house hold chores , for about half a day , once a week . At present , these all seem to be working out , very well for me . I've been looking into the grocery delivery services , but haven't tried that , yet . My Mom developed Alzhimers , it concerns me , that as life goes on , I may not be able to care for myself , even with the assistance of hired help . I love the suggestions everyone has given me , and hope to have adequate plans in place , before the need arises . I was surprised how many responses there were , in such a short period of time , and hope to see many more good ideas . I do believe in quality of life , and hope to enjoy my remaining years that I've worked so long and diligently to prepare for , in my own home , doing the things I enjoy doing .

" Taking care of a woman ." After giving birth , on the ride home from the hospital , I was told the washing machine was broke . A day or two later , my husband decided , as a way of getting me out of the house , we should walk around the mall . I'm loaded down with both the filled diaper bag , and our new infant , and I can barely stand . I tell him I can't carry all this any more . Before I can transfer her to him , he suddenly gets a cramp in his arm and can't take her . ( In addition to just having given birth , I was born with an undersized lower rear aorta artery ) . So, the following day , I'm trying to get the car loaded with all the dirty laundry for the days I was in hospital , the baby , the diaper bag , and the dirty diapers , and I ask him to please load the dirty diaper bucket in the trunk for me . When I get to the laundry , I'm trying to get the baby , the diaper bag , the week's dirty laundry and the dirty diaper bucket into the laundromat , and discover that the bucket is half full of water , but contains only one diaper , because the one filled with dirty diapers is still at home . Next he comes to me and says I need to go back to work right away , because he can't possibly afford to support me . That's interesting . I ask him how much money we have in the bank . He doesn't know . I ask him when he last even looked at a bank statement . Again , he doesn't know . The Agency I worked for has rules about how long before I can go back to work after delivery . My time wasn't up yet , but , I believe , this is coming from his mother , who can't wait to get hold of my daughter . So I go back to work , full time , and at the end of the first week , he comes to me and tells me , I need to take a day off from work , because his mother , only has evenings after work , and the weekends to do her housework . I point out to him , that that's the same time I have to do my house work , except I have the baby then , and I was the one who gave birth , and , since I used my leave time to give birth , I had no leave time left . I suggest he takes off from work to give both his mom and me a break . He won't , after all , he's saving his leave time to go on a two week hunting with his brother . So the concept here is , after being so cherished by my husband , at some point , between cooking dinner , washing the dirty dishes , bathing the kids , dressing them for bed , reading them a bedtime story , doing the laundry , scrubbing the floors , scrubbing the bathtub , toilet , sink , etc , I should fix him a drink , massage his back , and cherish him ? There's only one of me . A massage would have been nice , I would have liked thaf . If he'd changed even one dirty diaper , that would have been nice .

Was he the runt of the litter ? Did he have unique coloring ? Was there something about him that caught your attention so that you could easily identify him , at an early age ? There is the possibility that you somehow gave him more attention than the others , and he learned from you , even if it wasn't intentional , on your part . One of my kittens , had a spot on his rear rump , that didn't look quite right . He was about 6 weeks old . I put him in a cloth . over the shoulder bag and took him to the vets . Turned out to be a fungal infection . He developed a much stronger attachment to me , than any of the other five kittens .

The female professors at the community college I was attending , filed a class action suite against the college for equal pay . The first response from the college administration was , "If we paid the female professors , the same salaries we paid the male professors , the college would go bankrupt ." The result of the suite was , the records to the college were to be opened to the female professors , who would then select a male equivalent professor with equal duties , equal education , equal time and the college would be required to pay her the same salary as he was getting .

When I retired and moved here , my plan for myself included , "No more pets." A female cat moved onto my side porch and had a litter of 6 kittens , before I discovered her . Approximately 6 weeks later , she was murdered . I had seen that at least one of the kittens had been eating some of the food I set out for Momma cat , so set out more and water and the little ones survived . I did not breed these , I did not enslave them . In fact , I think it was the other way around .

I believe in quality of life , but was surprised when I learned my Mother felt that way as well . As she aged , she began saying light-hearted things about what to do with her after death , like put me in the ground and plant a tree over me , so I will at least be feeding the tree . Later in life , she told me , she didn't want to reach 100 . Mom developed both diabetes and alzhimers , and died naturally . in the hospital , at the age of ninety nine and a half . It wasn't suicide exactly , but I do feel she planned it that way .

I worked for over 42 years , for the Federal government . Discrimination was blatant , and got even worse when the Federal Government passed the anti discrimination law . In my personal case , for instance , my male supervisor was younger then me , had been with the Agency less time than I had been , and did not have the college credits I had . When he chose to move on , and his spot was open , the management decided to control who would get that job , by only offering a lower grade to the person taking it on . When a man applies for the job , they promise him a raise in short order . When I looked into it , I was told there would not be a promotion . Fortunately , for me , I was already looking into a different position . I became the lab manager for 5,000 sq. feet computer evaluation lab.

I agree with you , who a man is , should be more important than what he looks like . On the other hand , if the plan is to have children , hopefully attractive looking children do have better chances , in this world . You can easily make yourself more attractive , by keeping yourself neat and clean , find hair and facial hair styles that make the most of your looks . Work out a bit . Don't smoke , or use drugs . Educate yourself . Be kind . Think of others . Each of these things make you a more attractive person .

You may have insomnia OR sleep aphnea . Insomnia is more of a stress related inability to sleep . Sleep aphnea is more of a physical problem . I am aware of three surgeries and/or a cpap machine . The machine is basically a fan attached to a hose and a face mask , which helps to keep your airways open. When you lay down the soft tissue inside you relaxes and blocks your airways . The possible surgeries include removal of tonsils and adenoids , removal of your soft pallet , or to correct a deviated syptum .

I think this would depend on the individual woman , but I suggest that there are several basics we can most likely agree on . I'd start with mutual respect . I won't settle for someone I can't respect , nor would I settle for a man who does not respect me . Responsible , a man who understands a relationship requires both people working to maintain the relationship . There are alternative life styles , and whichever the two of you choose to live , requires that you both contribute to the over all good . There will be rough times , and each member should have the other's back . If you have a heart attack and are hospitalized , you would expect your partner to help you , especially when you return home . Mutually , if your wife for instance , gives birth , she also needs your help . If the company you work for goes bankrupt , it may be easier for you to manage on a lower income , until you are reemployed , but that also means there is less time to handle all of the household chores . Be there for each other .

I bought a huge planter and put in a grapevine , last year , which promptly died , although the mint was very happy to be there . I bought another grape vine and put in this year ,which promptly died as well , although last year's mint , is still going strong . I think something is poisoning the soil at a deeper level than the mint roots go .

SCA has archery practice Sat morning , have a D&D game Saturday afternoon , and Magic Con runs all day Saturday . Missed going to Lucky Land last year , so have plans to visit that Sunday .
