Life is a mattr of choices . We all make them . You know your birthday is coming , so it isn't a surprise . You need to plan something special for yourself. Plan to do something you want to do , maybe something different from your normal routine . For me , while I was still working , something different might mean a day off with a choice good book , an appropriate drink , perhaps a take out meal at home , maybe staying at home in my P.J.s . Now that I'm retired , it might mean an aternoon movie lunch at a nice resturant , a visit to the local home and garden show , visit a museum to see their latest exhibit , perhaps meet up with a friend . Make what ever plans would make you happy . It's your day and you can celebrate it in whatever manner you chose .

I think he's having second thoughts about the whole celibacy thing! Lol

The value of money changes over time . Think back to when you were small . How much did your favorite candy bar cost . What does it cost now ? Instead of thinking that the costs are going up , think the value of money is going down . In order to retain the value of my retirement fund , I invest part of what I have , in order to keep the value of it , up with the cost of living . For instance , my real estate taxes went up 14% this year . In the cataloges I receive , I see that the cost of clothing has increased . My contrator who does work on my house , as needed , has decided he needs to increase his income to impress his dates . My doctors have decided they make a LOT of repeat visits , instead of me setting up an appointment when I think I need medical help . Being retired does not mean I'm getting raises to cover all of these increases . I can no longer work , but I can study , learn , and carefully invest in my future .

Some of my friends are Wiccan . As I understand it , there's no magic involved . They worship nature . For instance , they often have an interest in herbs . When I applied for a position , more than 50 years ago , they required that we take a full battry of tests , they called CQB , which stood for Career Qualification Battery . It was to determine which field we were most likely to succeed in . At the end , the final test was only given to the males in the group . I learned years later , that test was to see who was qualified for electronics . They would hire people and , put you in jobs based in which you showed capabilities , then offered classes in those fields . A decade later , they finally opened that test to women . I took it , and scored very high in that field , but couldn't take any of the courses because they didn't relate to the field I was working in . Eventually , I went to my boss , telling him that if a young man came directly fron high school , and took that test , he would immediately be allowed to take those classes and work in that field . I eventually , got a different boss , one who took me seriously , and eventually was allowed to take those classes and to transfer into that field . THIS WAS A FEDERAL AGENCY and WAS THE THIRD LARGEST EMPLOYER IN THE ENTIRE STATE ! I was also taking electronics related classes at night , on my own . Once I got the transfer , tha Agency began helping with some of my college costs .

Wish I knew the answer to this one . When I was small , they removed my tonsils and adnoids . Doctor told my Mom , I'd never have trouble with snoring . Yeah , right ! As an adult they removed my soft palet , that dangly bit that hangs down at the back of your throat . After that , my snoring didn't wake ME up , any more . But I still don't sleep well . They were talking about fixing my diviated septum . Had a doctor feed a camera down my throat , by way of my nose . He said , the largest nostral, was so small , he had trouble getting the camera in . My nose is definitely , not small . I used to do my shopping at Walmarts in the middle of the night - no crowds , easy parking . Then they cut back their store hours . Do spend a lot of time on the computer at nigh , and the cats are always wanting to be let in and out , all night long . I find I'm most likely to drift off , if I'm watching some TV show on the computer .

I've been planting my flower boxes . Put strawberries in one , mints in another , and a lillie plant . I've planted asparagras in a new box this year , but won't see produce until next year . After that , I'll get stalks every year . My Herb box from last year , seems to have survived , for the most part - sweet mint , spearmint , spring onions , chives . The lavender looked kind of dead at first , but some of the branches seem to be reviving . The parsley didn't make it . I've replaced the grapevine that drowned , in all the rain we had last year . My daylillies , that I brought with me , when I moved here , are looking wonderful and healthy . One of the azalia bushes is bloominfg it's little heart out . The weeds are thinking it's a wonderful spring day . Saw some wild violets and clover amoung them .

A cat appeared in my backyard , one day . I later learned she'd had a litter on my side porch . About 6 weeks later , she was murdered , and I became the sole caregiver . I kept two of the kittens , and eventually gave the others away . That was about 5 years ago . The male , of the two I kept , still has abandoment issues . If I'm working in the yard , he posts watch at whatever window is closest to where I'm working . My daughter told me , when I leave the house , he cries until I return . He always curls up on my lap to sleep at night . He frequently rubs up against me , and tries to be in which ever room I go to , except when I want him to vacate a room , in which case he revolts . Not exactly something we can discuss . When I let him out at night , he has no problem touring the neighborhood , until he decides it's time to come back . When I need to leave , I leave . I make sure they're set up before I go anywhere . If I'm going to be gone more than a day , I arrange to have someone else take care of feeding , water , and litter box . I can't , "fix ," his problem . All I can do , is see that he's properly cared for .

I purchased a notebook , and wrote in it things that I came across that struck me as a good concept for my new life . A black , female teacher who was running for President of the US , at the time (Shirley Chisholm , I think ) , commented , "You can't really love anyone else , until you learn to love yourself ." That hit home . I chose to examine myself , set my goals , got rid of all the insecurities my mother-in-law had dumped on me . Her limits may have suited her , I chose to be a better person , and realized I had been all along . Did it lead to a better marriage ? No it did not . But then I don't need to be married . Did it lead to a better life ? Absolutely . I earned an education . I stopped holding myself back (after all , a woman shouldn't do anything to hurt her husband's ego .) I managed to improve life for my children , because I was no longer encountering constant problems from her . My work - promotions . Over time , I was able to make some sound investments , using skills I'd been taught in childhood , which I was not allowed to do , while married . While it didn't happen all at once I live in a nicer home , I've traveled in Europe . I've made friends outside of his family (only) . I don't have to live with any one else's conditions , I don't like . I don't have to get anyone's permission to do the things I want to do , nor do I have to do things I choose not to do .

Saw this the other day . They've cut off the end of the video , where the women were having difficulty trying to get through the door to leave . This is not a one of a kind situation . I've seen several videos of robbers using guns to rob small stores. Sometimes they shoot cooperating victims , anyhow . Sometimes , other customers shoot the armed gunmen . Even saw a video of a couple who were pilfering items in a store , when a gunman arrived and tried to steal from the cash register , and the pilfering team , working together , caused a distraction then took the gunman out . In this particular situation , the gunman was responsible for some ten other robberies , and as he uses a gun , it's only a matter of time before he'd shoot someone .

Some time back , I was in hospital for a day or two . A neighbor visited me there and drove me home , when I was released .. A month or so ago , he had a stroke and was in hospital , but is now in a care center for rehabilitation . His current abilities are at about the level of a two to three year old , although I'm quite sure his mind is still at the adult level . I consulted with his wife , and picked up some puzzle books , but they proved to be too advanced for him . So before my next visit , I got a coloring book and colored pencils . This seemed to be the right level , at his current condition . I can make him smile and laugh , and challenge him when he's in therapy , which he seems to enjoy . Everyone goes through some tough patches , and friends can be a great help . The younger generations may be too involved with their own lives to have time to care about the older generations , but that doesn't mean those of us in the older generations , can't help one another .

You are correct . A part of the problem is that chemicals used to grow foods have been found even in milk from nursing mothers . They're being poisoned , beginning while they are fetuses . For instance , a weed killer is sprayed on grains , before they are mowed , to kill the crop , which makes it easier to mow them down and is easier on the machinery , thereby saving the cost of repairing/replacing , the cutting blades . Thus a chemical such as , "Round Up ," is coating the graines , used to bake bread , cakes, pies , cereals , etc. As the mother eats these daily foods , she ingests the poisons , which then shows up in the fetuses as they are being formed . When you poison any living creature from conception on , on a daily basis , it does damage to any living thing . So yes , over all , our poisoned children are not learning at the same rates as previous generations .

Last week , I asked my assistant to load up the planters with soil . There are at least 6 bags of potting soil remaining in the garage . I went to put the lilies and bluebonnets in a small planter , and wound up stealing soil from one of the big planters . Took more for the other small planter for three flavors of mint - sweet , chocolate, and peppermint . The mints keep the mosquitos away from the porch . The back herb garden managed to survive the winter with lavender , oregon , 2 mints, spring onions , and rosemary . I added parsley . I wanted to put the grape vine in the large rectangular planter only to find the soil in that was an island , floating in a pond . ARRRGH !

Over many decades , I've had both dogs and cats as pets . As a child , my parents also had chickens and goats . My plans for my present were no more pets , but a Momma cat moved in and had a litter . That said , on shows like , "Wanted ," and in a lot of detective stories , you often hear and possibly see photos of tattoos the criminals have . Unfortunately , not all members of the human race are honorable and , sometimes they make bad decisions , and sometimes mistakes are made , and , I think , sometimes the training they receive , and the work they do on a daily basis , colors their perceptions . They do a hard job , more than I could do , However , I do feel that postman , meter readers , and others deal with dogs on a daily basis , without the need to shoot family pets. A thing I've noticed in other comments . Men seem to think sex begins with foreplay , it doesn't . Sex begins with what's between your ears . The following Sunday, a family emergency keeps you elsewhere . Some of your buddies , invite you on a weekend hunting trip . Then you spend a Sunday at work , doing a required inventory . My neighbor , a true friend , says I'm jaded . I responded that I'm a realist . A part of the problem is , that boys and girls are raised with different expectations . Last month , a couple living in a gated community adjacent to mine , came home to find their home had been invaded by thieves . The thieves tied them to chairs and put a bullet through the home owners' heads . The thieves took money , jewelry , and guns . Because it was a gated community , the thieves had parked their car near the gate , and entered by crawling under the gate , limiting how much stuff they could carry away . I've never been outgoing , but decided I needed a change . As I grew older and am now using the store scooters when I grocery shop , I realized how down the disabled seem to be . I came up with a 100% comment that always leaves them with a smile . As we scooter past one another in opposite directions , I smile at them and say , " Hey , wan'na race ? Perhaps , if you had done these things while you were married , she may not have asked for the divorce . I had several long discussions with my husband , which he chose to totally ignore . After I finally gave up , he felt sorry for himself , but did nothing to fix any of the problems . AARP did a write up , about the Malaysian Boys , a group out of Malaysia who targeted older women , offering romance , but eventually coming up with some kind of emergency , where they needed the woman to wire them money . Three of them contacted me within a very short period of time , each with a different story . All claimed to be American - one form Texas , one from Florida , one from Ohio (I think) . Each of the three wound up taking a business trip to Malaysia . Each had an unexpected emergency and needed me to send them a large amount of money immediately . I didn't send it to any of them . When the AARP article came out , they included photos used in the scam . Photos I had received from one of the men . Photos of an American model . Go with your gut feeling . If something doesn't seem right , it probably isn't .

When it comes to finances , there are three important concepts : How to earn it , how to invest it , and how not to spend it . Anyone can easily throw their money away . Had a friend who was earning $10,000 a year , but stopped in at Starbucks every morning on her way to work . When I heard her complaining about her pitiful income , I recommended that she apply for other jobs . Her comment was that she wasn't going to quit her job , in this economy . Who said anything about quitting her job ? I told her , the best time to get a better job , is when you're already have a job . It puts you in a better bargaining position . Once you have improved your job , then you let your current employer that you're quitting . Decide what field you want to work in , check to see what the income in that field will be , then take some courses , to see if it's likely to be as interesting work as you think , then start applying . You are correct . I believe it has to do with interest . They're not dealing with tiny amounts of money . The longer their accounts hold your money , along with that of a lot of other people's money, the more interest they collect . Your money isn't just sitting in their savings account , waiting to be returned to you . It's part of a much larger pool that is invested . Rather than being just a few drops in a glass , it's more like being a part of a huge swirling ocean , which , by using statistics , allows them to retain an over-all pool of money simply by detaining your refund .

High IQ tends to put you outside of the main-stream . In elementary school , you don't , "fit in. " You tend to get bullied . You become an introvert and tend to turn to reading , which puts you even further from the level of the kids in your classes . It doesn't actually mean you aren't happy .
