Bought a tiny , 3 bedroom , one bathroom , used house then , for just under that price . The two of us working full time jobs , combining our entire income , could not have paid for a VW Beetle . That rent would have covered a one bedroom apartment , not an average one . I can remember my father paying about that for gas , but not when I reach adulthood , and got my driver's license in 1962 . An attendent used to pump your gas for you then . We could go to a drive in movie , and the price was $1.75 per car , no matter how many people were in the car . I believe an indoor movie was more than a dollar .
