When forgetting your son's birthday three years in a row isn't the worst character flaw you have...
ChestRockfield comments on May 6, 2022:
Here's the other, albeit less scathing, part of the reply: I assume that my suggestion will evoke a reaction that your sexuality is at the core of who you are. The same is true for your son. He has a right to be accepted by his parents for being exactly who he is. When you “forget” a child’s birthday, you are basically negating him as a person. It is as if you are saying that you have forgotten his presence in the world. How very sad for him. Pressuring your son to change his sexuality is wrong. If you cannot learn to accept him as he is, it might be safest for him to live elsewhere. A group that could help you and your family figure out how to navigate this is Pflag.org. This organization is founded for parents, families, friends and allies of LGBT people, and has helped countless families through this challenge. Please research and connect with a local chapter. https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/ask-amy-parent-pressures-gay-son-to-change/2013/11/12/a46984d0-4815-11e3-bf0c-cebf37c6f484_story.html

Some heretical remarks from a distant observer: 1.
ChestRockfield comments on May 6, 2022:
1. Agreed. 2. Agreed. 3. I don't really think this works. The states will still be supporting each other in various ways. Not sure how that's possible with them essentially functioning like separate countries. People that can't afford to move are going to be stuck in backward ass places where the women are essentially property? Not to mention the ones that want to go to neighboring states to get an abortion will do so at the peril of anyone who helps them? Then the flip side, a state can ban guns to protect their children like they do in so many other countries, but someone that wants to shoot up a school can just hop over the border and get an automatic with massive clips and thousands of rounds? I don't want women in Texas to be able to choose because it affects me personally, I want them to be able to choose because I believe that's a right I want for the people in my country. A sort of badge of "who we are". That badge is really tarnished. I'd like it if we could polish it up even if we have to drag the other side kicking and screaming like children to do it... but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

An Open Letter to Bitter Hillary Voters on Bernie Bros, Susan Sarandon, and Roe v. Wade
ChestRockfield comments on May 6, 2022:
I guess they are all Bernie *bros*?? Cause a similar letter could be sent right back. "Hey, women who refused to vote for HRC, you're about to lose your autonomy, are you still happy about what you did? Now maybe you'll learn to vote your conscience in the primary but then get the fuck in line and vote your party, whoever it is, when the general comes. And what exactly did you do all this for? Not only did the opposing side not give you what you wanted, but they spent 4 years attacking the thing you had. Congratulations."
What do you expect to happen in the upcoming election in terms of being conducted fairly?
ChestRockfield comments on May 6, 2022:

In 2018, the first fetal transplant was accomplished.
ChestRockfield comments on May 5, 2022:
Umm, can you link or copy that article? I have never heard of such a thing. The Cleveland Clinic only recently delivered a baby by cesarean from a transplanted *uterus only* from a decreased individual that was later implanted, NOT an already-pregnant uterus from a living donor. Even if said procedure was possible, you're suggestion is that a reasonable compromise to banning abortion is that women may undergo a major surgery and have a hysterectomy instead of an abortion *provided they continue to carry the fetus until they find a willing recipient, who's a match, to also undergo a major surgery for a hysterectomy AND an organ transplant AND THEN ANOTHER hysterectomy several months later* all at the cost of MILLIONS of dollars to be paid by a party to be named later I guess...
Because Republicans are not for the people or by the people.
ChestRockfield comments on May 5, 2022:
Not sure where the person who made that meme is getting their information. According to this Pew Research Study, there are only 5 states that *DON'T* have greater than 30% support for banning abortion: Connecticut, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Hell, 14 states have 50% or better the number that think abortion should be illegal in all or most cases with Arkansas topping the list at 60%. I do not believe stuff like this is helpful. Okay, I looked them up. "Data for Progress" didn't do any polling. Their numbers are total junk. This is what they state regarding that conclusion they reached: "MRP [multilevel regression model, not sure why that's not MRM, but they said 'MRP' three times in their explanation, so...] consists of two steps. First, we fit a multilevel-regression model to a survey sample to estimate how likely someone is to hold a particular opinion based their self-reported demographic characteristics and the state where they live. A regression model is a statistical model used to analyze the relationships between some observed outcome (in this case, a political opinion) and other characteristics, called predictors. Multilevel regression is an advanced modeling technique that makes efficient use of sample data. The second step in MRP is called post-stratification, where we use our multilevel model to predict the responses of the population of each state. Using the demographics and population counts from the voter file, which account for differences in the demographics and geography, we post-stratify the survey sample and the population." https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/religious-landscape-study/compare/views-about-abortion/by/state/

There are significant risks associated with codifying Roe, at least for the past 42 years minimum because they would have had to eliminate the filibuster to do so. Plus, the court could strike down federal law as unconstitutional the same way they can overturn precedent. ChestRockfield comments on Apr 13, 2022:
While we may (or at least I, maybe people whose life work is evolutionarily biology have very simple answers) not know how instincts are learned or passed on, one thing I would rule out would be 'it's encoded on our DNA'. I mean, of it was already in our DNA, it would make sense how it was passed on, obviously, but we must ask ourselves *how* it got in our DNA in the first place. Our DNA doesn't change, does it? How could that even happen? Your genetic code is present in every cell in your body, so if our ancestor was to encode something in their DNA, how exactly would every strand of DNA in their body be changed to hold this new information? Or are we suggesting that any new instinctual fears are encoded in the DNA of the sperm and egg? Wouldn't that also mean these fears aren't learned? Surely, then, animals who are genetically instructed to fear another animal would fear them from birth, right?
