The-Krzyz comments on Feb 23, 2022:
So no one should be surprised if he claws his way back into the White House and again tries to subvert/dismantle the election process so that he can stay as long as he wants. Like his role model did.
ChestRockfield replies on Feb 23, 2022:
Also no one should be surprised if Biden pusses out and doesn't do anything to protect Ukraine and doesn't get reelectedas a result. He'll be a weak ass bitch that deserves to lose the White House back to Trump (even though Trump would have been just as bad or worse in this situation).

@CourtJester Considering guns in the home harm the owner or family member as they result in 15 times more accidental shootings or suicide attempts/successes (so in Alabama, most likely of Republicans) than instances of self-defense, I'd agree that things in Alabama are getting better. I love when Republicans shoot themselves or each other! https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9715182/

@Cast1es The mom in that clip is real life mother of 1, Andrea Savage. She wrote and was the co-creator of that show I'm Sorry. The series is fucking hilarious. I wish there was more. Totally worth watching if you thought that clip was funny.

I fail to see your logic. If you save the human first they can plant more trees and also save trees. Of course they can destroy trees too but can do much more service to the planet than trees.
ChestRockfield replies on Feb 23, 2022:
@MichaelSanchuk Now that I 100% agree with. The same kind of thing is also true of vegans who have children. I harm less animals not having children but eating meat than they do being vegan but continuing to shit out more planet-destroying offspring.
What would your choice be?
ChestRockfield comments on Feb 23, 2022:
There's so many assumptions and false statements in that I wouldn't even know where to begin. My choice would be to stop reading shit written by that person...
ChestRockfield replies on Feb 23, 2022:
@MichaelSanchuk I don't even know who the author is, so not being able to resist continuing to read his stuff doesn't make sense in this context for me. My comment was a suggestion for you to stop following the person that put that in your orbit whether it was a friend or the author himself. As for "counter human" (if that was a synonym for misanthrope) I don't have a problem with that. Humans are fucking awful and we should stop reproducing until we die off. It was the failure of logic and the idiotic assumptions I had a problem with.
Why aren't you a Trump supporter?
ChestRockfield comments on Feb 23, 2022:
I didn't read all of that. I didn't even read most of it. I quickly saw the direction it was taking and surmised two things: 1. That's a really long winded way to describe a single thing we don't control because humans lack free will and 2. this author won't have the balls to take this to that clear...
ChestRockfield replies on Feb 23, 2022:
@HippieChick58 Guess I'll never know unless someone else chimes in. 😝

I am not a Trump supporter because I have issues with bigotry, racism, sexism, willful stupidity, arrogance, narcissism, greed, bullying, deception and misanthropy.
ChestRockfield replies on Feb 23, 2022:
Misanthropy isn't targeted or arbitrary. I don't think it's fair to lump it in with the rest of those awful things.

And it should have made him unelectable to begin with. But none of those things happened. And I can't get my hopes up to think this will either.

ChestRockfield replies on Feb 19, 2022:
@UrsiMajor Even if someone could help me, I don't know what there is to help. Human existence is pointless and full of suffering at the hands of the innate selfishness of mankind. The only possible reason one would/should want to postpone the cessation of that suffering is if they felt there was a net positive enjoyment : suffering. I do not. I don't even know what could possibly happen in my life that could change that ratio for me. In death there is no suffering, no regret, no worry, if you simply died in your sleep you escape all of that. You can't even "miss out" on anything because the isn't a you any longer. To overcome my desire to die I'd somehow need to stop believing that, and even if that were possible, I don't imagine I'm going to happen to come in contact with the person that could say whatever combination of words it would take. Plus there's the whole do I trust the medical establishment enough? Would they make the mistake of conflating as desire to die with a desire to kill myself? Would the exploration of even the possibility someone could help me result in my life getting worse, being committed, losing my license, losing my job, etc.

"*The Apostles' Creed is the most widely accepted statement of the articles of Christian faith. It is used by a number of Christian denominations for both liturgical and catechetical purposes, most visibly by liturgical churches of Western Christian tradition, including the Latin Church of the Catholic Church, Lutheranism, Anglicanism, and Western Rite Orthodoxy. It is also used by Presbyterians, Methodists, and Congregationalists. This particular creed was developed between the 2nd and 9th centuries. Its central doctrines are those of the Trinity and God the Creator. Each of the doctrines found in this creed can be traced to statements current in the apostolic period. The creed was apparently used as a summary of Christian doctrine for baptismal candidates in the churches of Rome.[29] Its points include: 1. Belief in God the Father, Jesus Christ as the Son of God, and the Holy Spirit 2. The death, descent into hell, resurrection and ascension of Christ 3. The holiness of the Church and the communion of saints 4. Christ's second coming, the Day of Judgement and salvation of the faithful*" Those tenets of faith require belief in saints. Saints are those that have performed miracles. Miracles are magic. Check. "Decent into hell" sure as fuck checks the box for both supernatural realms and the burning in hell. ChestRockfield replies on Feb 16, 2022:
@Charles1971 That's true too. But I was talking about the companies then. We can't (and shouldn't have to) rely on individuals to boycott things that we need our lawmakers to reign in because there's no chance the companies will ever do the right thing without those laws.

Yeah, this is what I was talking about. Restaurant chains make it super hard for independents to succeed. Grocery store chains have almost completely eliminated small grocers. Amazon has closed mails all over America that contained thousands of independent kiosks. Years ago a had a coworker trash me for shopping at Wal-Mart because of the wages and the way they treat their workers. Unfortunately for him he was taking food out of a Burger King bag while he did it, so I pointed that out and that ended that. ChestRockfield replies on Feb 14, 2022:
@ASTRALMAX Yes, you could add all that, and everything else, as nothing is actually under your control. There are plenty of layers you're ignoring though. To say it negates critical reflection as a loophole that allows for free will ignores everything involved in creating the framework for said critical reflection. You didn't choose everything that you were exposed to. You don't know why you came out of those experiences thinking something is bad instead of good. Even if you have said convictions you think line up with the type of person you want to be (which that too you'd have to question where it came from), you still have no control over whether or not you have a chemical imbalance, tumor, etc. that results in your critical reflection finding a result differently than you would have otherwise. Ultimately, though, if you look at the science, you'll see that no matter how much contemplation or time passes between the question and answer, the decision is still made in the subconscious before you are consciously aware. Any reasoning you can give for why you choose something is actually nothing but post-hoc rationalizations.

You know how parents would choose to save their child over their spouse? It's like that. As Chandler would say, "She's already there. She's a mother, without a baby." @Gwendolyn2018 Did you read all of what you linked?? "The expression began life in the late 1700s and differs from the 19th century Dixie term, 'cottonpicker', in that the latter was derogatory and racist, whereas 'cotton-picking' referred directly to the difficulty and harshness of gathering the crop. *This didn't extend to the specific expression 'keep your cotton-picking hands off of me'.* [emphasis mine] This no doubt alludes to the horny, calloused (and usually black) hands that picked cotton." So 1. The phrase as he used it likely *was* racist, and 2. You missed the whole point of my comment. It doesn't matter if it's *actually* racist. Having to argue the nuance of why something that seems racist isn't racist itself makes one look racist.
