ChestRockfield replies on Jul 26, 2021:
@bbyrd009 That's like a mortality rate that is calculated after a pandemic is over I think. The fatality rate for a specific disease is number dead from the disease divided by the number who were infected. You think anti-vaxxers and people who are naturally immune to covid-19 are a larger group than the vaccinated? Well, that's impossible considering 49.2% of the country is fully vaccinated and 56.8% have had at least their first dose (which would preclude them from being an anti-vaxxer or having natural immunity). Who are you listening to that you regurgitate such nonsense?

ChestRockfield replies on Jul 26, 2021:
@bbyrd009 Only an idiot would think that calculation tells you anything, so if EVERYONE you listened to for a year used that number, everyone you know is an idiot. You can think those things are similar, but that's probably why you put the likelihood of god existing at 50%. I bet you are one of those people who think hating racists is akin to hating black people. I'm not saying death to everyone else like it's an arbitrary group, in singling out anti-vaxxers because they are a dangerous group of idiots.

ChestRockfield replies on Jul 25, 2021:
@bbyrd009 Everyone * you * associate with maybe, but that number doesn't mean anything. It doesn't even tell you anything in a historical context because the global population is changing constantly. But if that's what you think is good evidence, that explains a lot.
One is for the living...
ChestRockfield comments on Jul 24, 2021:
Yes! Toe tags for all anti-vaxxers!
ChestRockfield replies on Jul 25, 2021:
@bbyrd009 It would be similar to how other infection rates and death rates for other diseases are calculated. There are plenty of people every year that get influenza that don't get a positive test and are not included in the numbers. I would venture to guess more people got tested for covid, with or without symptoms, because there was a lot of mandatory testing and because many people thought the stakes were a lot higher (regardless of what you think). This all means that there are probably more undiagnosed flu than covid, but either way it gives us a very good estimate of how this disease stacks up against others. And it's sure as fuck better than dividing by the population of the entire world which is just fucking idiotic.
One is for the living...
ChestRockfield comments on Jul 24, 2021:
Yes! Toe tags for all anti-vaxxers!
ChestRockfield replies on Jul 25, 2021:
@bbyrd009 So you think the death toll that you used to incorrectly calculate the death rate is good enough to come up with that ridiculous number you quoted, but the number of positive infections, which is WAY less ambiguous or subjective than cause of death, * isn't * a good enough number to calculate the * actual * death rate?! Nothing you say makes any sense.
One is for the living...
ChestRockfield comments on Jul 24, 2021:
Yes! Toe tags for all anti-vaxxers!
ChestRockfield replies on Jul 25, 2021:
@bbyrd009 That's not how you calculate the death rate of a disease... By your calculation, * every * disease, even ones like Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease that kill 100% of the people that get infected, would have an insanely low death rate. And the death rate has consistently been 2-3% since the beginning of the pandemic. And so that you know, death rate is number dead divided by number infected.

@bbyrd009 You're blind as fuck if you think the fatality rate is .04% So that you don't sound ignorant, the actual death rate is 2.14% and that's just for THIS virus. Anti-vaxxers cause harm to people because of * all * of the vaccines they refuse to take and spread misinformation about. So your .04% quote is so incredibly misguided it's laughable. Best of luck to vaccinated people only!!

I think humans have evolved to the point where we can get our protein from sources other than animals. If you have ever been to the stockyards or a chicken factory then you probably would be sick. The smell and cruelty is sickening.
ChestRockfield replies on Jul 25, 2021:
Not probably. We can. What are the merits of that though is the question. I contend that a strict no animal product or byproduct stance is actually not the most logical stance to reduce animal suffering. If you could source your calories from waste streams, it's still more beneficial to animals to eat that, even if it's meat, than to eat "new" vegetables.

@Beowulfsfriend That is a perfectly acceptable cost. They are most likely going to get sick and die of something, someday (unless they get hit by a bus or something) so our society is out that money no matter what. The sooner we pay that cost for them, though, the less damage they can do with their misinformation that costs a ton extra. Let 'em all fuckin' die, ASAP. Even the data you post doesn't support your dumb fucking ideas. That table amounts to one tenth of one percent of vaccine doses having a reaction, most of which are mild and may not even be related to the vaccine (but even if they were, they were mild so who gives a shit). If you only look at death and permanent disability, it drops to 6 ten thousandths of a percent or about one in 17,000. Whereas close to two percent of people who get Covid die from it.

There are plenty of other differences but significant overlap, none of which there is a consensus on, so it seems maybe how you shape, dress, and eat them appears to be the most consistent defining factors. @bbyrd009 As I explained before, both being true makes the least sense. Just because you've thought two opposing things doesn't mean the middle ground is the most logical. If someone used to think that skin color was the sole determinant of how intelligent a person would be and now they think skin color has no bearing on intelligence, would you say the most logical position is that skin color * partially * determines intelligence? If you used to believe Santa brought all your presents, and now you realize Santa brings none of your presents, is it most logical to think Santa brings * some * of your presents? I hope two examples is enough... And I think "one extreme to the other" is a mischaracterization. I thought one thing, because literally everyone in the world thinks it because it really * feels * like we have free will. And then I realized I was wrong. There's nothing really "extreme" about either of those.

@bbyrd009 A. Why would that make this circular? B. An all-or-nothing approach is actually the only likely possibility. Think about what mechanics would need to be in play for you to * sometimes * have free will. If you could sometimes act or think freely, why couldn't you do so all the time. Conversely, if you couldn't act freely at times, what mystical powers change the laws of physics to transiently allow for it? There is a concise video about this that I think would be valuable for you: Watch "Determinism vs Free Will: Crash Course Philosophy #24" on YouTube https://youtu.be/vCGtkDzELAI

ChestRockfield replies on Jul 17, 2021:
@misterinvisible Well, without getting into the weeds about free will being illusory, generically "choosing" not to do something would still have an effect on the environment you're in, so there will necessarily be a reaction to your state of existence, thus the concept one could produce no reaction to an action/"inaction" is nonsensical. What follows from that is that I'm not quite sure how thinking about a nonsensical proposition makes you more aware or enlightened... Taoism is nonsense, too. To assume there is an ideal state for the universe or a goal of "balance" one should strive for assumes all kinds of things for which there is no evidence. Consider the claim that you should strive to align your movements to be in harmony with the natural vibrations of the pink flying elephant. Both are nonsense.
