We all want this , Donnie Jr in prison orange being greeted by those who want to know him

ChestRockfield replies on Jul 11, 2021:
@Davekp That is not the case with what I'm saying here. It is necessarily true that your genes, even if only the fact that you don't have 3 21st chromosomes, cause an increased ability to understand the words that one would use to indoctrinate you and thus, you have undeniable proof that the OP statement was true. I'm pointing to one exact thing that absolutely proves my point. There is no faith involved. I'm not sure what you're not getting about this.

ChestRockfield replies on Jul 11, 2021:
@Davekp Literally every single thing about you is in whole, or at least in part, dictated and/or controlled by your genes. So yes, this * specific * thing is included in everything. More specifically, your genes dictate your capacity for intelligence, and as a result, your ability to comprehend what you're told and read (and even your ability to learn a language in the first place). Without this, you wouldn't be able to comprehend what people are saying to try to indoctrinate you. Given this, the OP statement is * necessarily * true. Unless you deny that your genes dictate your capacity for intelligence despite the very clear evidence presented by afflictions that result in "developmental delay"? Unless you think extra chromosomes isn't an issue involving genetics? I'm not really sure why you're trying to argue what should be an easily discernable, very settled question.

wordywalt comments on Jul 2, 2021:
Children are born without ingrained beliefs of any kind. I would not call that atheistic.
ChestRockfield replies on Jul 10, 2021:
@wordywalt So if you don't know about the concept of God, then you can't be an atheist. If you've only ever heard of one God, and you don't believe in it, are you an atheist then? Or do you have to know about every iteration of God and reject them all? That would likely include no one. But a person who rejects thousands of conceptions of God, but doesn't completely reject one, also cannot be an atheist? So then to be an atheist, you need to actively reject every single conception of god you know about, you don't have to reject ones you don't know about, and you have to know about and reject at least one. I think I got it. Wouldn't it just be easier to use the definition: 'lacks a belief in a god'?

ChestRockfield replies on Jul 9, 2021:
@skado I'm trying to approach this from the perspective of someone who doesn't yet realize that free will doesn't exist so that the argument is more widely persuasive, but it's difficult. Gonna give it a try though. So we don't choose where or when we're born. We don't choose any mutations, which dominant or recessive traits take hold, any birth defects, who our parents are, who they introduce into our lives, whether or not they used drugs or had heredity diseases we inherited, etc. Even if you believe in free will, there are so many millions of things that affect you before you could even exercise it for the first time. Major things like who you trust, and how much you trust, are usually so formed, they're likely impossible to "choose" to overcome. Think about someone you know who's really gullible. Don't you think they wish they weren't gullible (or * as * gullible)? Why don't they just choose to stop being gullible? What's even worse in the case posed by the OP is that while gullible people may at times realize that people are pulling their legs because it's fun to fuck with them, indoctrinated people never know it's happening * while * it's happening and rarely even realize it later.

ChestRockfield replies on Jul 9, 2021:
@Davekp Not at all. We already know that our genes are responsible for many things, specifically, and our knowledge of the specifics grows exponentially. To think that our genes are responsible for millions of traits, but that just some of our traits we haven't specifically located the gene or genes responsible for are instead the cause of some external, metaphysical property would be the belief system that would require faith. Mine only requires logic. That would be like if we found a new green leafy plant in the rainforest and said it was a matter of faith to assume it synthesized its energy from the sun. Is it possible both of these things are wrong? I guess it's possible, but to assume that either of them are is the faith-based, less likely, and thus, illogical position to hold.

ChestRockfield replies on Jul 3, 2021:
@AnonySchmoose Yes, I find any definitions that blend or meld atheism and agnosticism to be a perversion and completely, almost intentionally, fuck over the English language. There need not be any further definitions, in my opinion, than those that classify atheism as 'what one believes', and agnosticism as 'what one can know'. These other definitions only serve to create more ambiguity where it doesn't need to exist, and with language, especially English, being as imprecise as it is, why? There doesn't need to be an overlap, so why would you adhere to definitions that create one, and in the process, reduce everyone else's ability to know what the hell you're trying to say?? Anyway, by my (and the logical) definitions of those words, I'm an atheist because I lack a belief in god, but I'm agnostic because I know I can't know if one exists. I have met a few agnostic Christians in my time, which, by my definition, LITERALLY EVERYONE should be an agnostic something because EVERYONE should admit they can't KNOW either way. The only problem I have with identifying as agnostic only is that to me it's not saying anything. It's like asking someone what they like to eat and having them reply, "food". Well, yeah, of course. * Anything * you would eat, by definition, is food, so you're not really saying anything... Sorry for the rant.

@Heavykevy1985 You're not convinced of what? Math? The ability of people to look at two numbers and recognize which one is larger? How can you read a hundred sources saying they did studies and they all concluded that going through all the steps needed to kill an inmate is more expensive than keeping them in prison and find ZERO sources that did studies that found the opposite and still "not believe it"? That's like thinking Trump won the election... Wait, do you think Trump won the election?

ChestRockfield replies on Jun 26, 2021:
@holdenc98 Not really sure what any of that means. I'm no longer even sure what site you're talking about that you got banned from, but I don't know that it matters to my point. If ANY site would ban me or even temporarily suspend me, like Twitter did recently, on principal, I am no longer willing to support that site with the free money I bring them with my participation, however small an amount it may be. I completely understand the limits of free speech and the reasons why they are necessary. What I had said on Twitter in no way violated their terms of service, in my opinion, nor the normal restrictions to free speech as guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States, thus, I had no reason to apologize or voluntarily delete my own tweet response. Twitter has decided that I am no longer allowed to be on their site unless I delete my tweet, and I refuse, so it appears I will never again use Twitter. It may even be a blessing in disguise. To be honest, probably no one should use Twitter or Facebook ever again. It does nothing but breed discontent, division, and misinformation. The only reason it probably doesn't matter is that we'll probably all die off in one of several other ways before that division could cause as much harm.

So to claim I'm wasting energy, especially an amount that could be repurposed into combating some grave injustice, is inaccurate at best. ChestRockfield replies on Jun 17, 2021:
@powder Depends on what you mean by "balance the books" but one meaning of that is precisely what a government can't do. A good example is privatizing the post office or "running it like a business". No rural areas (where a majority Republicans seem to live) would get USPS delivery anymore because those branches wouldn't be profitable. All those poor motherfuckers would have to drive to the closest city that's big enough to have a profitable branch to get their mail or life-saving medications. Then UPS, FedEx, and the like would charge exorbitant rates in areas that didn't have postal delivery or pickup, if they were even an option. Bridges are another government provided amenity that are not profitable. Unless you propose we have a toll at every bridge to pay for the upkeep of it? A government HAS to run at a loss if it's expected to provide services for free for the common good. Which is why I say anyone who thinks the government can/should be run like a business is a fuckin' idiot.
