In the meantime, the tranquility to which this nation has been restored by the events of recent weeks could be irreparably lost by the prospects of bringing to trial a former President of the United States. The prospects of such trial will cause prolonged and divisive debate over the propriety of exposing to further punishment and degradation a man who has already paid the unprecedented penalty of relinquishing the highest elective office of the United States."

@Flowerwall First of all, the only people who believe there were election irregularities are lemmings who listen listen to everything the president says. Even his own officials have come out to say this was one of the securest elections on record. Secondly, there was clearly cheating in the last election. The president was caught on tape trying to coerce a foreign power into interfering and then, as you stated, we had record turnout. So I'm not at all concerned that a small percentage of people who are easily fooled by the president's conspiracy-theory-filled lies think there were problems. Losers whine, that's all this is. Finally, when I said White Supremacists, that's exactly what I meant. This was leaked so that groups like the Proud Boys would show up in DC tomorrow to help with the plan. Google it. They responded and even said they were going to wear the garb of other groups like antifa so they'd get blamed.

ChestRockfield replies on Jan 3, 2021:
@CourtJester PM me your license number. I can verify it online and you'll prove me wrong and I'll never again be able to make the claim you aren't a doctor. We may disagree on pretty much everything we've ever talked about, but I hope if there's anything people can say about me, it's that I don't knowingly make false statements. I'm worried about my online presence too, obviously not as much considering I'm still using my real name, so I'm not going to publish it, not that the degrees of separation would easily be overcome anyway. I don't know what your age has to do with anything... I've worked with first year residents that were in their 20s, 30s, and 40s. Age tells you nothing. A doctor would know several things about science: 1. It does the best it can with the available knowledge. This does not mean it's already right, but it's always willing to amend conclusions given new evidence. 2. It can be misused by people for tainted means and/or ends. It is not science's fault and that shouldn't be held against it. Since if it is good science, it is repeatable and verifiable to however, ultimately these misuses could be/are usually illuminated. So are some claims inaccurate or wrong. Absolutely. Did Fauci lie about mask use in the beginning? He did. A doctor would know why and understand the goal of this. If you think that's worthy of discrediting him, I think that's horribly misguided, but I suppose I can't blame you. But that shouldn't mean you should downplay or ignore data that is supported just because he said it. Should we have been going into banks? Not if the drive through or online banking could have met your needs. Should people have been doing as much shopping for essentials online as possible? Absolutely. Was protesting ever safe shoulder to shoulder? Of course not. But didn't your mama ever tell you two wrongs don't make a right? Have there been tremendous bungles on the roll-out of the vaccine? Without a doubt. There are practitioners that only do virtual visits that got their vaccine weeks ago and I as a front-line worker that is in aerosolizing procedures with Covid-positive patients still haven't been called. Is I remember correctly, someone was bragging about how the military was ready and waiting to "warp speed" the vaccine to the American people. You'll have to cite specific areas if you want to make sure you're comparing like examples.

I didn’t block you butter cup. I haven’t blocked anyone. I just giggle.
ChestRockfield replies on Jan 3, 2021:
@CourtJester It's not a matter of thinking, it's a matter of knowledge. Initial viral load of an infecting antigen can absolutely effect the course of a disease. I shouldn't have to explain that to a doctor. This invariably means that masks can save lives even if the antigen is airborne. The fact that you don't know this, believe this, or support the spread of this information speaks volumes about you and the [likely imaginary] "people in your lunch room". Thing is, you have the ability to easily prove you're a doctor and for months and months of saying things that call that into question, and me calling you out on them, the only thing you do is profess you are without ever providing any evidence. I can't imagine anyone that has read our exchanges believes you actually are. Like in your last message, you are stating that as a first year resident you moonlight nights in private practice. That just doesn't happen. Maybe 3rd years or fellows, but not first years. Maybe a lot of people don't know that, but those of us in the medical field do. You could prove me wrong, but you won't... cause you can't.
Big fuckin' surprise.

But let me get this straight, you are claiming you just became a doctor (but not on July 1st like every other doctor in the country, a fact I pointed out before) and you are somehow flying to the Florida during your residency, yet also working private practice somehow during residency too? You're fuckin' hilarious with your "I'm a doctor" schtick.

How about telling all the atheists to find their own site?
ChestRockfield replies on Jan 2, 2021:
@Storm1752 Wait, I'm not saying they are one in the same. I'm saying technically * everyone * should identify as an agnostic because no one can * know * if god exists. But that includes theists, too [I have met several agnostic Christians]. So it's like a square/rectangle situation. All atheists [should also be] agnostics, but not all agnostics are also atheists. And I'm not trying to encumber anyone. I'm not telling anyone what they should believe. (I don't even believe people can control what they believe.)

Storm1752 comments on Jan 1, 2021:
How about telling all the atheists to find their own site?
ChestRockfield replies on Jan 2, 2021:
@Storm1752 It's still a difference of belief and knowledge. So for things you can't know, but have a belief about, you are both things. You said you believe the Steelers will win. You can't know that. If you did, you * would * be mortgaging your home to bet on the game. The fact that you haven't pretty much proves I'm right about that. And this is all pretty odd coming from someone who apparently has a problem with gnostic atheists considering your desire they "find their own site". If you don't like their claim they * know * something they obviously can't know, and you have no problem stating * beliefs * about something you can't know, how do you not fall into the category of people that agree 'atheist' and 'agnostic' are not mutually exclusive??
Big fuckin' surprise.
Storm1752 comments on Jan 1, 2021:
How about telling all the atheists to find their own site?
ChestRockfield replies on Jan 2, 2021:
@Storm1752 I think you just explained it for me. It is precisely the fact that they are two different things (not mutually exclusive) that they can coexist. I * believe * that because the Steelers already secured a playoff birth they will probably sit some starters and the Browns will win the game getting them into the playoffs for the first time in almost two decades. I do not * know * if any of that will actually happen. A lot of people * believe * their spouse will never cheat on them. No one * knows * it. I * believed * the weather was going to be nice on my Jamaican vacation because of historical data and meteorological predictions. I obviously didn't * know * that because it rained for 8 straight days and nights, and no one could believe what was happening. The locals said they had never seen that much rain their entire lives even in the rainy season, which was months away.

A voice could be out there speaking the truest most logical words ever, and it would likely prove completely ineffective on nearly half of the population. Because of this fact, I cannot conclude anything other than that we've found ourselves in an unsolvable, problematic situation that can only end in civil war, authoritarian rule, or both.

@kmaz My best friend from HS and I have been arguing with a buddy I play cards with (Brian) for years about this very thing. Below is a text I sent in our group chat this morning that details how that's been going. He holds the same dismissive view that unless Trump is successful, it's nothing to worry about thinking our democracy is this amazing, bullet-proof masterpiece that can never fall. So Brian sent me this and I thought it was group chat material. "Oh my god I just realized something. Everybody fully expects tomorrow to be the end of 2020. I'm calling it now, 2020 is going to somehow force a 13th month into existence just so we have to endure one more month of this shit." Seems he still thinks what we're warning about is only true if Trump illegally [and only illegally] remains in power. (Would declaring martial law and staying in office in response to tons of protests and car bombings even be considered illegal in Brian's book??) Please read the articles linked below to maybe get a better understanding of what our fears have been. He's not just an idiot who failed to remain in power, just like everyone else who would dare try, because our constitution is so star spangled awesome. He has permanently damaged this country and the fabric of our democracy, and just because he was too stupid/inept to continue to follow the 'Become a dictator' playbook to success doesn't mean he hasn't made it much easier for someone with the proper intelligence and skills to follow along and do it successfully. https://news.yahoo.com/americans-acceptance-trump-behavior-vilest-060037636.html? https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.newsweek.com/trump-encourages-wild-protests-dc-date-electoral-college-vote-count-1556153%3famp=1 https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/11/trump-proved-authoritarians-can-get-elected-america/617023/

@Cyklone By allowed I didn't mean 'physically capable of', I meant 'legally allowed to'; it's illegal to lie to law enforcement, so why should they be allowed to lie to you? It's stuff like this that creates and deepens the divide between law enforcement and the citizenry. It's the same kind of thing like how some places in the world respect their law enforcement so much that they don't even carry guns while our cops have fuckin' assault rifles in their cars. Trust is earned, and lying to people and tricking them does not further that cause. Sure, lying may help you lazily catch one person without having to do actual police work, but at what cost? Just look at this actual snippet of legal advice from a law firm: "Our law firm strongly recommends that when a police officer wishes to speak to you, do all of the following: Be polite and courteous Provide them with your correct name if requested Provide them with valid identification if asked to do so Provide them with proof of valid car insurance if asked to do so Other than that, do not speak to anyone in law enforcement" That's what it's come to in this country, law firms recommending you do everything you can legally do to avoid the police.

@Canndue Except some people * do * accept those things... Where are you getting your information? I have a uncle that has bought into Q and all the crazy shit they believe and his wife that is of a different religion and not political at all. I'm quite sure they aren't the only ones. And why are these latest examples "extremes"? Notice, I essentially put one of my examples in both groups. Thinking Trump is a good president and supporting someone who openly bragged about sexually assaulting women. So you can't really claim I "can't get past" something * you'd * have no problem with because you're so enlightened while at the same time claiming my second group I challenged you with is "extreme" when they contained one of the same things. Point is, all these things are all on continuums that are prioritized by everyone differently, and it's a little unfair to seemingly phrase your objection to original claim as if you're a bigger person because your continuum is different than mine.
My friends that know me consider me to be a statistical outlier.

ChestRockfield replies on Dec 30, 2020:
@Canndue Now I'm curious, how much 'crap' can you say has less meaning than the relationship? If your partner hated Jewish people? What if they went to rallies wearing swastikas? What if they casually used the N word in conversation? What if they defended and supported someone who openly bragged about sexually assaulting women? I think to throw what you said you could get over (supporting different sports teams) and what I said (believing in nonsense and supporting monsters) into the same bucket is drastic. And it's completely unfair to characterize me as someone that "can't get past that" for the sake of love. Sure we all have a different line as you stated, but there is a fundamental difference between a preference for a sports team that means nothing and the implications of the type of person you are or what character you have by doing and supporting the things you do and support. Maybe you'll come back and say you're also fine with all of the above which I'll have a hard time believing (while questioning your morals), but then just ask about progressively more awful things until you finally balk.
My friends that know me consider me to be a statistical outlier.

@Canndue Do you really think those things are the same? Which sports team you would prefer win which doesn't really matter at all vs. whether or not a country thinks they should help take care of the less fortunate (among many other crucial differences). -AND- The rest of your life vs. 5-10 min and you can bail without strings. Those are two HUGE differences to me.

Second, intelligent people tend to adopt an analytic (as opposed to intuitive) thinking style, which has been shown to undermine religious beliefs.
