Do you know anything about Deism?
Cyklone comments on Apr 16, 2020:
Seems like just a way to explain the origin of the universe prior to the big bang theory. Like all other theistic beliefs, it's been superceded by science
Saw this on Facebook.

What good is a grain of truth if it is encased in a boulder of bullshit? You can't get to that small truth before you've been contaminated and choked on the crap.

How Stupid Are They?
Cyklone comments on Apr 16, 2020:
To quote Einstein: two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity. Trump and those that support him demonstrate the truth of that maxim.

Cyklone comments on Apr 16, 2020:
I've seen it in couples where the male cheats and at other times where the female cheats. Generally speaking, males cheat because they can and females cheat because there is something missing in the primary relationship, but that is by no means a rule and I knew one woman who generally had 4 or 5 on the go, other than her husband, who lived in blissful ignorance most of the time. I've seen couples who regard it as an opportunity to grow and others who just pull the pin. The only constant I've seen in those that continue successfully is the degree of respect remaining between the couple.

Cyklone comments on Apr 15, 2020:
You could just move to japan, about 95% atheist. They don't ban religion, they just ridicule it as is happening in many other countries in the western world, even to a lesser degree in the US. Wait a few generations and your wish may be granted.

How do you respond to someone who says "I love you" when you don't feel the same?
Cyklone comments on Apr 13, 2020:
I think that when those words are used all the time they cease to have any real meaning. I've also noticed that for some people those words should be replaced with "I own you". In my experience, the attraction to family is so visceral that they're the only words that make sense. Like my children and siblings, I love them on a very deep level, but sometimes they really piss me off. I hate it when those words are said just to get a similar response as well, and from a partner I'll frequently just respond "that's nice" and maybe later say I love you when I feel like saying it. "Love ya" is not something I'd say because it seems like just a other form of goodbye. Very casual and meaningless

That must be a incredible relief, being able to break two very corrupt relationships, to climb out of the rut and head for the high ground. It doesn't necessarily mean you'll be happier but at least you will again have the potential to be happy. Good luck mate.

Searching for a soulmate is futile. Your thoughts?
Cyklone comments on Apr 12, 2020:
I think the idea of a soulmate is corrupt bullshit. It locks people into the idea that somewhere out there is "the one". Or "how can I leave him if he's my soulmate, there'll never be a other". It undermines critical and autonomous thinking. There is no soul and even as a metaphor it conceals the idea that relationships take work, they're not magically perfect and there are many who could be good mates.
My brother died from this pandemic on march 27 at 4:59 PM in Everet Washington.
Cyklone comments on Apr 12, 2020:
It's going to hurt, it's going to hurt for a while and it may never stop hurting. It's like a huge weight lands on your shoulders and although it may not go away, you learn to be strong enough to carry it. Try writing a letter of goodbye and take your time doing it. That can help you get stronger. Drugs and alcohol only postpone the pain which you'll eventually have to face anyway but with interest. I lost a brother 2 years ago and I still weep at his loss, when no-one is watching. Most of the time I'm fine. It just sucks. Take care.
I'm getting restless from being cooped up.

Do you think if someone, who has committed a heinous crime, should be given a chance for forgiveness...
Cyklone comments on Apr 11, 2020:
Perhaps if you were the victim and you found it possible to forgive. But if you're not the victim then it's not up to you. And just because they might be forgiven doesn' t mean they shouldn't spend their lives in prison. I might forgive a dog for biting my child, but I'd still shoot it. In the case of people, punishment serves several purposes and one of them is to discourage others, so they need to be seen to serve their sentences.

Is gender a social construct?
Cyklone comments on Apr 11, 2020:
It might have been better to call it sex (xx or xy) and "gender orientation". There is quite a lot of evidence to suggest gender orientation is biologically determined. For instance, the percentage of homosexuality is fairly consistent across cultures (4%), and can also be seen in rats and dogs. It is a short step from there to surmise that many other gender orientations are biological as well. I suspect that gender orientation exists on a spectrum biologically (or several spectrums) and those who are closer to the centre of the spectrum can be influenced environmentally. Personally, I think, who cares. If I meet someone I don't say, before I shake your hand who do you fuck? I'm also a bit envious of bi's. Twice as many possible partners 😂
The "care" package my daughter sent me while we were in quarantine, so we would not go crazy.

Who avoids discussing religion and spirituality?
Cyklone comments on Apr 8, 2020:
I don't normally discuss religion or spirituality because they either agree with me and then there's nothing to discuss or they're not worth wasting time on. The problem occurs when I start to think that about everything. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Anyone interested in having a philosophical conversation
Cyklone comments on Apr 7, 2020:
Are you aware that the discipline of philosophy is diametrically opposed to the concept of a god. Philosophers of old specifically looked for ways to free people from the yoke of religion. Even now you can earn one of two doctorates, a PhD (philosophy doctorate) or a ThD ( theological doctorate). The conflict hasn't changed.

Near death experience
Cyklone comments on Apr 4, 2020:
My most memorable near death experience was when I got pinned under a descending load of collar on a rig (really heavy pipe). The crane operator couldn't see me and had to rely on another bloke signalling him. By the time the load stopped it was brushing my chest as it swung. I thought I was gone but I still remember the words in my head just before I thought I was going to die. They were: "well, it's been a f###ing blast".
Why all the hate?

Cyklone comments on Apr 3, 2020:
The percentage increases dramatically as the hospitals reach capacity. Then they start to triage and many won't be treated, equalling increased mortality rate. That's the whole motivation behind the idea of "flattening the curve", to avoid reaching treatment capacity

Cyklone comments on Apr 2, 2020:
I've heard this and a few other comments from people I know. I think you need to take the precautions that you think will keep you safe. Personally I listen to what the doctors are saying about the main vectors for this virus such as hand touch, door knobs etc and droplet, aerosol formation from people coughing and sneezing and I take precautions against those. Otherwise where does it stop? Set up a decontamination area behind plastic screens at the door? So far I've heard nothing about the virus being tracked into peoples homes, have you? Not that it can't be, but I draw a line based on statistical probability, otherwise I'd be afraid to go on the roads.

People act out of their nature. You being nice to them won't change that. They may be nice back or take advantage of you. I think the trick is to act out of your nature without expecting them to be the same or allowing their response to change who you are. Short version: some people are arseholes, don't let it change who you are.

Some interesting points but the specifics of hoarding are, I think, better explained by the game "prisoner's dilemma". Without communication, for the individual the choice is: hoard and have enough or don't hoard and maybe have enough vs neither hoard and we'll probably have enough and just you hoard and I don't have enough. Clearly there are better outcomes for the individual to hoard. If we had greater levels of community communication we could negotiate a share agreement but that possibility of communication doesn't exist in western culture.
I love living with another introvert, lol.
Cyklone comments on Mar 25, 2020:
I think it is a very simplistic and inherently inaccurate way of dividing people. Eg extroversion/introversion exists on a spectrum and it doesn't necessarily mean exhibitionistic, talkative or overly active which is what you may be thinking of. The whole myers briggs division (eg.INFJ) suffers the same problem and is poorly supported by independent research. It divides on a black/white basis in that the difference between E and I might be 49% to 51% but it is treated the same as 1% vs 99% and yet people are being promoted or employed based on that bullshit

Yep. Great operation. I was walking that afternoon and was pain free within a few days. It was like being 10 years younger again, walking and training easily without pain. Don't wait as the longer you do the more atrophy occurs in the muscles that you favour and the longer it takes to get it all back. The only downside is that you can't run. Running is high impact and drastically shortens the life if the implant.
