While in college to become a teacher I worked as a Bilingual Social Caseworker for the DSS (Welfare) 1) To get benefits a person had to be a USA born / Legal Resident with 5+ years holding said status or a Nat. USA Citizen...also with several years in the bag. 2) Whenever we got a SS card we contacted the SS Adm since the first three numbers tell the age category of the person and, also, if the holder is a male o female, retired or active...or if the SSC has been reported stolen....So, I find hard to believe a person who is not legally in USA can obtain DSS benefits.

So, I'm not going to call her names.

@webbew1 Yes and no. In order to succeed immigration must be selected, controlled and properly directed. See, Argentina and USA are having, right now, the same immigration problems. Argentina has been flooded with refugees from Venezuela. All social classes / knowledge. They were told "Are you a doctor, an oil engineer, a computer tech....? Well, you will be sent where your knowledge can be put to use...for your benefit and for the benefit of the country. I believe this approach saves a lot of money, helps the immigrant to assimilate...and he/she can be controlled.

I have seen sharpened screwdrivers / glass / rulers, one kid put rat poison in a teacher's water bottle...Box-cutters and 4" nails are common in the school grounds.

We have (nationwide) the proper authorities to guard the schools. The school system is designed for failure....An unschooled person is one easily manipulated since he / she lacks the resources "to work less / earn more" doesn't provide him/her with the time to ask all those questions the big guys don't want to answer. If we go to the origin of the public school in most countries... we will discover that said system was created to benefit the high honchos. I wasn't able to open the article.

The kids were 1st. graders....and no, you can't say one thing and few years later tell the kid it was a lie. Trust me, regardless of the issue, a lie is a lie and the kids don't forget. I didn't forget the lies my parents told me about "anything". ...and their excuse :"You wouldn't understand, you were 5 y/o." still ring inside my ears. No, childhood is not about magic and innocence...is about having things explained to them according to their age...but always based on the truth. BTW, I am a teacher.

I think religion should be taught in schools.

@Trajan61 I agree....but the truth is that NYC -in Social Studies- only teaches religion as to the importance this vermin have had on mankind...specially Christianity (III-IV centuries). I was able to refer to the atrocities inflicted on people by Christianity whenever I taught literature...and because the students were wiser than their parents. :)

@jondspen Yes, dear, I entered legally. See...I couldn't be a Naturalized Citizen if I didn't. A person doesn't became "legal citizen" but legal resident first....unless you enter legally and go trough the process required for naturalization. The guy of the article deserves nothing but jail. Sure, most of the immigrants wants a better life. Nobody says no to this....but they should attempt such better life in their own country. The perfect example is today Venezuela...a country full of well educated people who don't have the balls to get rid of Maduro. And remember, not everybody emmigrate because politics and/or money.
