We already got tent cities in Houston. I don't call them caravans. Of course, they use drugs, sleep in tents, even got prostitutes, male and female. The police make them move location every once in a while. Some die from smoking Kush, or have seizures.
DUCHESSA replies on Nov 2, 2018:
I guess I wasn't clear enough....The "tent cities" you refer to have about 1% of the people right now walking to get into USA. Oh, well...some people read what they want to read.

@MrLink Well, no as easy as you say. Very similar situation is taking place in South America; thousands of Venezuelans and people from border countries -as I type this post- are walking towards Argentina. Many have already arrived. Guess what? Few days ago, three Venezuelans, two Paraguayans and a Turkish nationals were arrested among those trowing stones and handmade bombs to the Argentinian police in front of the country's Congress; they wanted to prevent the Representatives from deliberating.

In fact, Argentina is in the process of deporting two of them for throwing stones to the Congress and other crimes against the estate's property. The caravans heading to USA are "made" mostly of Hondurans and Salvadoreans. @jorj Every president is populist during the campaign; the problem becomes heavy depending on which one are the populist ideas. To say "We will get rid of the illegals. /Those receiving assistance from the government will not have it so easy any longer..." are populist ideas / actions that any normal person will accept. Now, if the government increases the number of people in assistance, gives the criminals more rights than it gives to decent citizens...we are talking a different kind of populism. You have to know this by experience.

@bigpawbullets He married your daughter and that gave him the RIGHT TO APPLY FOR PERMANENT STATUS (obtaining the GC) and, eventually, the right to apply for Citizenship. Indeed, after 10 years he had to renew the GC. I don't understand why he didn't....unless, of course, he believed he had a GC and it really was a working permit. See, many immigrants think that marrying a USA Citizens makes them AUTOMATICALLY permanent residents...even Citizens. The truth is these two statuses must be applied for by the immigrant / granted by the authorities.

@bigpawbullets No, a person can be a Green Card holder forever; he / she will need to renew the card every 10 years....most of them become US Citizens before the first renewal. The work permits / college visas expire for good. BTW, the Green Card status can be revoked if the person commits a crime.

@bigpawbullets The Green Card holders are not here at our request. I know this issue very well; they are people who came legally and became "permanent residents (this is a different subject) and have all the rights (except the right to vote) of the Citizens. My ideas derive from a mix of experiences in USA and in my other country as well as from years of teaching. If we are going to mention sources mine would be Horace Mann, Domingo F. Sarmiento, Albert Shankler, my students, colleagues, people who didn't get an education but with overflowing common sense... growing up under a very different set of rules.

@bigpawbullets Excellent. Thanks. BTW, I would extend the Universal Health Care to all legal person who pay taxes. Remember, "Green Card" holders are legal and pay taxes. Additionally, I would suggest the direct deportation of everybody that is illegal and committed a crime. The illegals who are "inside the law" are different and I would study their situation case by case. EDUCATION, mandatory, tested, universal, mandatory attendance, general knowledge and, also, specialized from HS...more
