What you state about the teens' underdeveloped mins is quite correct....but in certain cases resorting to guns -for them- has nothing to do with "getting attention" but everything with stopping harassment. We had a female student who suffered from depression and she was teased day on / day out by two classmates for her condition. The bullies were reprimanded, their parents informed...everything was done. Guess what? One day -at the lab- the two classmates began to tease her again...even they destroyed the girl's purse. The kid reacted by grabbing a lab tool and stabbing one of the bullies very close to her right eye. Yes, the girl was arrested....and the bullies were pampered as victims. During a training section for teachers, a colleague from another school told us what one of his students said to a classmate: "I can't take his harassment any longer; I wish I had a gun." Yes, he was reported.

I don't agree with arming teachers...Not now no after Columbine. School SHOULD be gun free zones....but they are not; the students are extremely savvy about entering them to the campuses. I don't know about the schools in your area but in NYC all have Sec. Guards and Police Officers...every day. Yes, the MDOL should be ONLY to request the that civilians can't buy assault weapons.
