@Desertcactus Systemic change is notoriously slow. And sometimes the change we require never comes in our lifetime. And sometimes the change is two steps backwards. I have been watching America walking backwards on social issues like a clean environment, universal healthcare, etc. now for 4 years. It’s been an appalling train wreck. But these constructs are apparently what the society put in the hands of your president to take care of.. for better or worse. When I am overly frustrated with lack of action concerning things that impact my world I often think of soldiers in war who were killed a few minutes AFTER the ceasefire was announced. Dying on a battlefield in a foreign country is bad enough but to have your life unnecessarily snuffed because you simply didn’t get the news is utterly tragic, if not horribly ironic. Considering that reality for some, my concerns and issues with society, while of course important to me, are, in perspective, small potatoes. My concerns become things I carry with me daily and get dealt with on an incident by incident basis. As an example.. in the past 15 years at work I have had to tell 3 people that I don’t enjoy their racist attitudes and that I would prefer not to engage with them. I’m sure you can imagine how easily those conversations went. Lol At the end of the day.. if I have lived my time according to my principles and standards of honesty and fair play then I sleep well with no regrets. And really, beyond all, personal health and peace of mind are worth their weight in gold.

@Word Ahh. I see. “Freedoms just another word for nothing left to lose. “ The motivation to enjoy true freedom freely, like most things , is a personal choice based on the individual perspective. Any time in my life my perspective has been of a similar nature to your questions I have found taking some kind of action of rebellion against myself to be helpful because in reality.. I am the problem. I am the one acting like the oppressors I imagine.

Davekp replies on Sep 22, 2020:
Chair rail traditionally caps the wainscoting. As to purpose? I'm guessing but I can see two reasons it might have been used. 1) adding a protection to the lower wall. Todays wainscoting material is sometimes as thin as an 1/8th of an inch (usually 1/4) and can be pin nailed or glued directly to the drywall but in buildings erected at the beginning of the 19th century (or before) the material was commonly 3/4 . Almost plank stuff. Could survive a substantial impact without any real wall surface behind it. 2) as a way to cut down the amount of lathe and plaster needed. Plaster walls are expensive (compared to installing wood) material heavy and time consuming to make. Real plaster typically takes a month to cure fully where it can be painted. Which is why many homes went straight to wallpaper.

@Alchemy I think in your desire to point out something in my response to MermaidFantasy you missed the “if agreed upon” about the dick pics. Personally I don’t send them unless asked. But let me clarify.. My response to MF had little are nothing to do with the issue of rape or consent. Near as I can tell neither did your post so I wasn’t speaking to those issues. If you would like to have that discussion post a question about it. That said.. my response was related to the fact that people, IN GENERAL, have preferences. If the person sitting across from you on a first date has many of the qualities or characteristics or looks you desire then one is predisposed to possibly overlook a comment that would otherwise be a deal breaker. For good or ill we all get swept away by something at some point. My question to her was basically.. If the fellow sitting across the table were pushing all the right buttons from his speech to his smell, would the spanking comment have been as unwelcome? That’s really all I was asking. As to your experience on this site. I haven’t seen such responses but I have no doubt this site is no different than any other in regards to poor behaviour. Way of the world in an open forum. As others have suggested.. block and report. With 1000 blocks on FB it would appear you are well acquainted with the button. Lol

@Mermaidfantasy I agree that moving too quickly on a first meeting can be a turn off. I think in the world of alternative style relationships there is a strong tendency to prove or display(especially) “topness” right off the get go just to show you are what you say you are. To the other hand I have had “subs” ask me if I have my duffel bag in the car. What duffel bag? I don’t drive around with a kit. It has turned out if I’m mot prepared to get into it like RIGHT NOW then I can’t be what I advertise. But the stakes are higher when you walk into a room and someone suggests impact play with absolutely no knowledge of who that person is. Trust doesn’t just fall out of the sky. Thanks for not taking issue with my question. others would. 🙂🖤

I know what you mean but a question.. If the chemistry with the "you need a spanking" guy had been super hot would that comment have drawn the same reaction of you having to remind him of your understanding of what a power exchange relationship starts? Because every situation is as different as the person you are meeting. It's been my experience that both participants get the honor to accept or reject. Top and Bottom (and how that shakes down) are an agreement and it takes two to start. After that.. if you want your Top to feel privileged to be with you than you should feel that.. And if your partner wants to feel that same privilege from you they should get it also. If either go into a relationship feeling they are the more valuable or in control or in charge than it probably won't go far. my 2 cents And yes.. dick pics are, for the most part, offensive.. unless agreed upon. Some people do like 'em! lol

@Allamanda He said true intimacy is a constant. It isn't. It is dependent on having another to be intimate with. There are many solo, lonely people on this site, as an example. He didn't say the NEED for true intimacy is constant. That would have been a very different statement. But 2 points.. 1) Why would you assume I am talking about sex? And.. 2) why are you assuming you know what he is thinking enough to answer for him?

How many of you have been in a whorehouse just visiting? Something tells me that is one of my unique experiences. Actually I did it twice.
Davekp replies on Jul 13, 2020:
I searched one out during my year in Malaysia ('96). Being a conservative majority Muslim culture prostitution is, as may be expected, illegal with significant penalties involved for being involved in the sex business. That said, many things are underground in Malaysia and like gambling dens and bootlegging , whorehouses do exist. Tough to find but quite something once you get there. lol I managed to track down an example of all 3 places. The booze was being made at a coconut plantation. Spent an afternoon getting buzzed on some local juice. , the gambling was a long time moving game between 12 men who frequented a "coffee"shop I spent time at drinking in the evening after work. The night I was invited to I would say close to 20-30 thousand $ changed hands. A big enough pot that if authorities knew there would have been a raid for sure. Th whorehouse.. OMG..Stayed about an hour,, had 2 beer as I recall. Went with 2 locals and another Canadian expat I was working with. A big square open room.. almost pitch black. no candles no real lights. Lit only by a couple of upright bar coolers filled with beer and a dimly backlit tote board up in one corner with 5x5 squares of different colors with the numbers 1 through 42 on them These lights would blink off and on throughout signifying who ( what girl) was available. After the eyes adjusted it was ok. lol In the room proper it was humid and thick. Didn't smell overly bad.. but I was already in South East Asia.. how much worse could it get?? haha We went at night and it was cooler but still heavy atmosphere. Sound died when the door closed. You could hear murmers . You knew people were there but couldn't see a form. There were booths along the walls and in the center a number of round booths with 6 foot walls around a center table,, A round cubicle with one entrance and padded seat and back. We were met at the door by the madam. My local friends explained we were there for just a short time, have a couple of drinks, meet a couple of the girls to chat with. There was some lap sitting and flirting going on but It was never intended, on my part anyway, to have it as a full on sexual experience. It took quite a bit of convincing to get my local friends to take me in the first place. It was obviously not seen in the same light as western culture. The beer was cold, the girls were friendly. My friends translated for me.. I don't recall the conversation to be honest but I might have put down a recollection in a journal. it certainly turned out to be a positive, fun risk to take. Getting caught in there would surely have meant deportation.. I recall laughing.. quietly. .. good times.:) Good question! Thanks.

I'm interested in historical calligraphy. I"ve seen some incredible ancient works of art, Chinese scrolls 3000+ years old, that are really outside the mainstream sense of what we go to galleries to see. When I do go to museums I search out whatever calligraphy collection may be at hand and take a look. By extension, the person I am visiting with usually gets introduced to a new form of art. The surprise and positive reactions are nice to share .

"Natural roles" are constantly evolving. Do you mean the 50's style of gender stereotypes that so many Americans long for. The age of subservient women and manly men? If so.. there was something wholly unnatural about that arrangement as well.
