Happy Sunday! It's post your own question day!
Robecology comments on Jul 5, 2020:
My question for today Being a landlord. Pros? Cons? I just bought a Condo-townhome within biking distance of where I live. I'm fixing it up....ceiling fans, new/better ceiling treatment (removing popcorn). New appliances. It's loaded and furnished...right down to the golf clubs ...
Davekp replies on Jul 5, 2020:
Being a landlord is a lot of work even with a consistent tenant . As a vacation rental it’s exponentially more responsibility. #1,#3 are essentially the same scenario. You either labour yourself to maintain the property and bookings or hire and manage some talent to do it for you. This can be time consuming depending how often the clientele changes. #2 Is the most hands off for you.. but comes with a price. I have no experience with this kind of dealing but it sounds like an 18% fee could be a reasonable cost to offload future headaches dealing with renters. #4 Is a little different than 1and 3.. Cleaning is taken care of.. but you still need to cover the booking and front line concerns. Again.. time and stress. At this point In my life I have other interests to pursue. I would go with the fUll service office. I think even a 25% fee would be attractive to me.

Davekp replies on Jun 21, 2020:
The World of Pooh. I had the 1957 copy of the book. In the early 90's I met a pretty cool girl who liked to transform pieces of furniture into animals with paint.. her fridge was a rhino, etc. I asked her to make me something. She said only if she could have my copy of Pooh which was on a shelf in my apartment. Yes.. even though I was mid 30's and a moving target as far as career and stability, I had my copy of Pooh at hand. So I thought long and hard... and traded it for a piece of her.

@FlippantLlama Building! It will be more akin to a very small compound Start with 3 buildings being situated within a wooded, 2 acre area. The largest spaces will be 600 sq, ft. ( a 20 x 30 rectangle) Two of them. One for cooking and entertaining and one for sleep and work/ privacy. As well Initially their will be a utility out building where the electrical and heating will be centralized. Adding small buildings and cabin spaces as we go. I'm looking forward to implementing a couple of different renewable energy strategies. :)

Davekp comments on Apr 24, 2020:
Movies, plays, novels, poetry.. the stream of "words of others" is endless. I sometimes feel I never have an original thought. "Home again, home again. Jigeddy Jig"
Davekp replies on Apr 24, 2020:
@Haemish1 Lol.. nah.. that's not where it's from (but I do know the nursery rhyme)... For me it's the original Blade Runner.. when we see Sebastian's apartment for the first time. He has animatronics that greet him at the door. :)
Happy Thursday! Who do you go out of your way to be nice to?
Lauren comments on Apr 23, 2020:
My list is the same as yours, and I add ESL speakers because people don't seem to have the patience to let them talk (plus, they're usually really interesting). Also, I occasionally leave treats for my postal workers in my mailbox, particularly right now.
Davekp replies on Apr 23, 2020:
I agree with the ESL point.. I’ve taught in a couple of different situations both in Canada and abroad. Letting someone who is learning a language struggle in front of you is way too uncomfortable for most people to deal with. Lol

The credit rating system IS a racket. It's a total scam. We've all been led to believe that we "need" to have "good credit" to do anything. It's just another method to arbitrarily overcharge and penalize people. It should be illegal for landlords and employers to look at anyone's credit rating, ...

Absolutely you should. A really excellent initiative. The great thing about road way cleaning programs is 2 or 3 events a year take care of it. It's not a long, protracted involvement. Maybe.. use the pics on a poster type advert that you can display on a community announcement board or put together a web version for a community page, if there is one. Some thing that works well with recruitment is either a "challlenge" or "contest/ reward" idea. Contact the Adopt A Road program..see if there are incentives with the program for individuals or groups to become involved. There might be an option to involve a competition between retirement villages.
