Davekp comments on Oct 8, 2020:
In this case the patient, Trump, I don't think, has any particularly strong feelings himself on abortion. He has picked the side of his base and that is that. If his base were against red Smarties he would do his best to get rid of red Smarties. In spite of that.. Anyone who has the option of receiving ANY treatment should have any manufacturing knowledge available. It would give them the choice to make an informed decision. Having choice is a good thing for an individual all around. Not sure why it would be important to know the individuals position on abortion though. If you don't want the treatment find an alternative. If a person is against the treatment because of how it is developed there are plenty of more effective ways to make their opinion heard.
Happy Thursday all

Why does the legal system promote abuse?
Davekp comments on Oct 5, 2020:
Hey there.. thanks for your post I can't speak to your personal experiences as to the abusive situations you feel you can't leave as I don't know about them. But I do agree with a couple of your points. Yes.. vindictive threats from an abusive partner you are trying to leave is a considerable problem in our society. Yes.. using children as shields or bargaining chips is a significant problem as well. Both of these behaviours should be treated as psychologically criminal. Western laws (and the American system in particular) have no excuse for their failings beyond looking at how our systems and institutions have grown and evolved (and sometimes devolved) over the decades. Well intentioned regulations written by well intentioned and educated people will always be incapable of addressing every twist and turn to these types of life challenges. The sheer magnitude of our fundamental institutions are unmanageable. Cracks to fall through open up like Floridian sinkholes.. out of nowhere. There are many Catch 22's.. "Can't get there from here." " Need a job to get a job." :Damned if you do, Damned if you don't". In that regard the inadequacies inherent in our judicial and financial systemic realities strikes us all as unfair and rigged at times against us as individuals. Even the super rich and entitled run up against "unfairness", just maybe not the kind the majority face. But thinking that one police officer or that smug IRS tax accountant on your file is the "system" itself is giving those individuals too much power and importance. The police are a part of the system that "takes the children" but the larger judicial framework informs them of when and how law and order gets maintained in an increasingly modern and complex world. The taxman too, counts the beans and goes home while the databases calculate 24/7 just what you owe. (The data bases are the real culprits.. lol ) And yes.. we do live in a society that seems to allow for abuses and class division prejudices to happen. And I do believe a lot of people are fed up. But self preservation is a strong motivator to do nothing if nothing is threatening you directly. Example.. AIDS started to become important when it moved from being "that gay disease" to showing up in the middle class suburbs when dallying husbands came home and spread it to their wives. It was threatening. Society took action. In that sense the political protests , the BLM movement.. the Me Too movement.. all of these energies are a direct result of people. en masse, saying, "We don't want to live in a society like this." So take heart. Your country is, to some degree, responding to your concerns.

Do not wish death upon anyone anytime anywhere for any circumstance.
Davekp comments on Oct 2, 2020:
It's a great sentiment. I have no reason to so I don't. Wishing someone dead implies a deep hatred and probably a need for vengence or revenge. I try to steer clear of those feelings purely so I can selfishly maintain my own sanity. It is my preferred way to walk through this world. That said.. I see many instances in this bizarre thing called modern life that would make even the most seasoned stoic's toes curl with delight at the thought of devastating Karma befalling an enemy. Remains to be seen what I would feel meeting that kind of hate inducing event.
How do I better structure, or control my "therapies"?
Davekp comments on Oct 1, 2020:
The ability to meditate I think is a practice makes perfect scenario. Alotting time and keeping those dates with yourself will lead to a more structured routine in that regard. Monks and successful devotees of the inner light all seem to share that one thing.. a schedule. Invigorating yourself to paint, or motivating anything of a creative nature is a different matter. Yes, as a professional artist there is value in going to "work" every day and perfecting your technique as your livelyhood is the motivator. But for someone who has artistic hobby's or passtimes procrastination and "blocks" are pretty common.. I'm not sure what aspects of painting you find most fulfilling but whatever that part of the process is, find a way to do more of it. Or go so far as to find a new process entirely. Play with new methods and tools. The painting world is possibly much larger than you have explored. Have you ever painted with Encaustic? Your last one.. "to know when and what to choose to manage my emotions." When you find the answer to that let me know. haha. But tbh.. breathing. Practice breathing. Practice making your first response to things to be taking a breath. Allow yourself that brief moment to realize , recognize and absorb the emotion you wish to control. This fits in nicely as a focus for a meditation. My 2 cents. :)

Happy Thursday! Have you ever had a roommate(s)?
Davekp comments on Oct 1, 2020:
I had dozens of roommates from the ages 18 through 35. When first leaving home I lived in a student co-operative in a 22 story hi rise in downtown Toronto. My “unit” had 12 people sharing facilities. Challenging at times but a really amazing experiment in getting along. Taught me a lot about living with others. One of the most memorable was a fellow I shared an actual double room with my first year at theater school in ‘79. James Mercer was a surrealist illustrator and was attending a top level art school in the province. He was a year or two older. Very quiet. He took part in unit activities but if not in class he would generally be in the room working on a piece. That Hallowe’en I came home from watching the costume spectacle outside on the street. James was at his desk staring blankly at his sketch pad. It was a different kind of blank stare from the “I’m creating” blank stare. I asked what was up. He related how he was walking past the front of the building earlier, heard a crash from above. Looked up in time to see a body dropping to the ground literally in front of him. As he told the tale I recall noticing on my way in the the pizza shop on the ground floor had been closed, the patio furniture was removed and the sidewalk had been wet, (hosed down) even though no rain had fallen. It turns out there had been a party going on in a Unit on the 4th floor. The building security (also students/ tenants) had dropped in on a routine walk through of the building. With 750 tenants and all the parties happening the building was absolutely packed and rockin’. One of the party attendees, on LSD at the time, freaked and headed out the window. He survived with a severe (understatement) traumatic head injury. This fellow landed in front of James. Messed him up. Unfortunately he was very traumatized by the event himself. Left school at the Xmas break. I have since Googled James without luck.
Hey guys, Happy Tuesday! When you hear the phrase "Processed foods," what does that mean to you?
Davekp comments on Sep 29, 2020:
Processed meat kinda feels like Fast Food where everything is reduced to a slurry of sorts then gets reformed into the shape you require. a chicken "nugget"?? or "finger"? Hamburger patties with 70% non meat filler. Processed is synonymous with low quality.

Happy Monday! Have you ever needed/wanted to lose weight? What worked best for you?
Davekp comments on Sep 21, 2020:
Good question but not one I have a lot of experience with. I am fortunate to have had a stable weight throughout my life. My only real weight gain occurred when I stopped cigarettes 11 years ago. I went from 165 to 185.. and I felt it!!! I stopped eating shrimp and ham steaks. They were my go to. Foods. Once I stopped the fatty culprits it took about 2 months to settle into a reasonable 175.

Were you able to remain close friends with exes?
Davekp comments on Sep 18, 2020:
It’s a “depends” thing. I recall having a going away party back in the 80’s when I left to travel Europe for a year. Including my current live in gf at the time there were 4 other exes at the party. And not just quickie hook up girls. One I had lived with for 3 years another for 4. Another was my high school sweetheart who I still talk to on a pretty frequent basis. Our last connection was a couple of weeks ago. Of course a lot of time has passed since the 80’s and those connections have dissipated. My recent relationships have been much longer ( 8 years and 17 years) but I have always seen it as a sign that I indeed treated these girls with love and care during our time together. As for my current ex, the mother of my children, there is much water under the bridge. I am not her friend but I remain friendly and able to deal with situations without being vindictive or overly hard to get along with concerning shared financial obligations. Research??? Dunno. But in my life attempting to remaining friends has been the rule not the exception.

If this , or something similar was printed in the 1950’s that 55/100 might have been accurate for the time. According to the National Center for Educational Statistics, Elementary enrolment rates for 5 and 6 year olds was still only 58%.. extrapolate a bit to the older population and you might very well be looking at a society where almost half the population would not be able to read that gibberish so easily.

No, not mandatory. By the same token not everything has to he “dealt” with. Learning to pick battles and at times just walk away is just two valuable coping skills necessary to navigate our modern social interactions that are becoming increasingly complex. Instead of now falling out with a just a neighbour we are frequently faced with long distance social media interactions that push buttons and cause hurt. Tricky world. 🤔

Davekp comments on Sep 3, 2020:
It's a circumstance by circumstance thing.. for the 9 months I spent driving through Europe I was "lost" every time I got in the car. And generally had a great time being that way. Generally.. haha That experience taught me to always research where I am going if it is an important appointment and I am unfamiliar with the area. I have, at times, done a pre- drive by of the location and the route to get there. For job interviews, etc. On the other hand getting disoriented in deep woods or a blinding snowstorm at night is a very frightening thing. I have experienced both. And getting lost at sea would totally ruin your day. Knock wood.. it's not happened to me.

Hi there.
Davekp comments on Aug 21, 2020:
Yes. Tough moments. When unmotivated by a lack of enthusiasm for life in general I try to take some time and settle into meditating with visualizations. Sometimes it’s seeing in my minds eye a favourite location that always lifts my spirits. Sometimes it’s me seeing myself doing something I like to do. Like playing the guitar. Trying hard to see my hands forming the chords and moving on the fret board. This focus helps reaffirm a couple of things. One.. there are places and activities in my life that do bring joy.. and Two.. it confirms I have a place where I belong ( by myself or not) and it confirms that I do have the ability to accomplish things ( like learning to play the guitar). Dealing with loneliness and lack of motivation are real energy sucks and sometimes it’s ok to just turn off and have a nap. 🙂 My 2 cents. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon. ☀️
