Social media is redefining what we would call vernacular.. the language of the common people. Today's academic and intelligent "sounding" language we all love so much is becoming what Latin was to the church when the "common people" were left out of the conversation. Part of the "laziness" is every bit a rebellion against the established order of educated and elevated discussion. I ignore this new vernacular at my own loss of being able to communicate efficiently with younger people.. including my own children. and if I live long enough, my future grand children.

I pick the RGB ting too.
Davekp replies on Dec 17, 2018:
@Frankjd I was a filmmaker for a number of years and did a lot of work with a local community tv station Color correction was always something we needed to be aware of and calibrating the studio monitors to a standard or consistent RGB level was as important as making sure the in house cameras were white balanced properly.

Hi, Dave! I'm John and I'm an alcoholic. The last time that I quit drinking was about 6 months ago. Each time that I quit, I did it Cold Turkey. The first time was soon after I got married (1975). I stayed sober for over 30 years and I've never been to any meetings to help me quit, so I don't think ...

Hi John.. thanks for your response and I most certainly have benefited from your input. Relapses happen! I applaud your efforts to try again.. your granddaughter loves you for it, I'm sure. Coincidentally.. my last cigarette was in 2008 as well.. Sept, 1,, feels good! :)

I guess my advice to other struggling addicts would be to find a different group to connect with where people are still struggling with addiction, instead of accidentally stumbling, and getting emotionially confused by getting mixed up with mis-leading web groups like this one, largely consisting ...
Davekp replies on Dec 16, 2018:
Hi Pb.. thanks for your response. We all have choices in how we live with our addictions and recovery from them. My "success story and victory" as you phrased it has been a conscious and deliberate series of choices that have given me 4 years of sobriety. And one of those choices has been to remain positive whenever possible. I have by no means defeated my personal slavery. There is no luxury to this. It is still one day at a time, brother. Not sure why you feel emotionally confused by this particular web group.. It appears to be average people, like myself, sharing both their successes and failures. But it is your choice to participate or not . Personally, if I found this.. or any group for that matter.. to be a negative experience I would be looking for a different arena to seek support.. Not everything works for everyone and some group talk moments can definitely do more harm than good. One of the reasons I left AA was precisely that I found the groups to be somewhat trapped in a bubble of negativity which was holding back my progress. There was not enough conversation concerning a strategy for success. So I eventually came up with one that worked for me. I feel there is value in sharing it.. Again.. thanks for the input.. Your insight has been a stark reminder of how we are all on different paths and at different stages of our recoveries. I will keep your concerns in mind as I craft my talk. I look forward to hearing a success story of your own someday. Corners are for turning. :)

When I led my first meeting, I referenced my dog as my model for living in the moment. Dogs hold no grudges, nor angst. They are always up for making friends, greet everyone with a wag and a smile (at least my dogs always have) In dog we trust ?
Davekp replies on Dec 15, 2018:
I'm sure I can make the case with my cats.. the living in the moment part. The greeting, wag and smile? Not so much. lol Thanks.
