Debt is a particularly harsh task master. It can make a helpful and conscientious person act against their character. It is not in your nature to seek attention for the aid you give.. you help a friend move or drop off food to a grieving neighbor without a second thought of being repaid for those acts of kindness.. but money is a different animal. Debt is like a child, it demands to be fed, it demands to be serviced. And when that child is not yours that feeding and servicing becomes a thought burden. Your "venting" as you put it , is perfectly valid. You don't like having debt. It bothers you. We are the same. What I do now is.. when I am asked for more than I am prepared to forgive I propose a repayment contract that stipulates payments that coincide with the payments required by my lender. While this does not guarantee they will pay on time or at all.. it tells the asker that they have an obligation beyond just getting what they need in their time of crisis. The difficulty arises when hot meets cold.. your DIL's situation is hot.. it's emotional.. the solution is cold.. it's money, it's business. It's unfortunate surgery was necessary but this fact in no way impacts on the lack of humanity exhibited by our financial institutions. Good luck with the situation. Hopefully everything will be repaid in a timely fashion, her health returns and life will move on. :)

I know.. believe me.. I know. After 17 years I hadn't planned on being single either. Took a year to regroup and have been actively pursuing the "dating" thing for 10 months. Some of it is absolutely brutal but I am still optimistic that something good can happen. Should you choose the online dating route.. have patience and a thick skin is helpful, too. Good luck!! :)

This could entirely be my misconception but... I have always thought that in an evolutionary sense it comes down to the ability to give birth with less overall complication.. or at least gives the mother more to work with then a slimmer hipped woman. Anecdotally.. every birth is a challenge at the best of times. Thanks Mom!!
