Yeah.. online dating is a challenge for sure. Really never know how to approach the initial conversation. Seems like when I message people who have apparently “liked” my profile they either don’t read my message or read and just not respond. Not sure why someone would ”like” then not at least follow up.

It is a complicated idea to be emotionally unavailable.I think a splinter of the meaning involves being self centered. Whether it's a diagnosed condition involving narcissism or just the character trait of always needing to be the center of attention, the first in line or always "right".. people who take little time to share or empathize I feel are quite unavailable emotionally.

I agree with the assessment of forced cheerfulness. The overly cheerful kinda have a slightly crazed look at times. Like they are perpetually finding the best deal on the discount table. It should be noted that cheerfulness is not the same as happiness.. Faking happiness, at times has helped me through more than a couple less than cheerful days.

Im ready to run, leave everything i own and just get the hell out of dodge.

Without being even remotely sarcastic or snarky.. .. maybe it IS time to leave everything you own and run. Make a plan. Where would you go? What new adventure can you see yourself pursuing for the next couple of years? New places, new faces.. a fresh start to NOT be doing the things you are doing now. Sometimes our unhealthy behaviour can be partially attributed to the expectations that those around us have of us. If the people around me expect me to be in a "mood".. then I will be. Breaking cycles are difficult at the best of times.Creating a blank slate to start with.. or hitting the reformat button.. is the greatest gift you can give yourself. And if you say , "I can't because.. " you are only road blocking yourself. As we all know.. if you aren't happy with yourself you are of a diminished help to others. You can always return to the place where you are.. but sounds like you need some space to work on a positive mindset. Just my armchair 2 cents worth. Good Luck :)

That was my experience as well.. an over riding feeling of "god" being your salvation. Didn't help that most meetings were usually held in rooms used for Sunday school.

I think you do yourself a disservice by not revealing your anxiety over attending large functions to those in your family. It's not a matter of them being introspective.. which I think I understand as they wouldn't particularly be sympathetic to your situation and you feel they would ridicule or minimize your condition. I'm sure this kind of invitation comes up more often than you would like.. so instead of trying to find an "out" every time.. would it be to your advantage to have the big "reveal" and get it over with. If you come clean with everyone now, this and future events may be easier for you to politely decline in the long run. That said.. just giving yourself a get out of jail free card for attending family events might not be useful in every instance and I don't think it is helpful to use the declination as a carte blanche solution to your abilities to socialize. I would not like to see anyone not attempt to reach beyond what is available to them. And no, Your therapist was not helpful.. at all. Joking or not. Good luck with your choices. :)

A day NOT thinking about.. work, the kids future, loneliness, anxiety over anything, paying bills, my 14 year olds whereabouts, why my previous relationship fell apart, and on .. and on... When I can manage to NOT think about those things..and zen a bit.. I will have time , energy and the right attitude to think of that perfect day.. Life seems to be too in my face these days.

I think the bigger issue to education is not so much what is being taught as specifics of curriculum are era dependent.. but what kind of Learner we are producing in the first place. Attention spans are increasingly shorter, learning disorders are being identified on an exponential scale, incidents of Autism spectrum and ADD or ADHD or now more common. Our "system" such as it is, in many ways remains the babysitting service it became in the 70's and 80's when special education streaming was introduced as a way to deal with the new type of Learner that was evolving in modern Western society.

Had a "first" phone chat with a person I've been texting with just last night. In this day and age that is becoming more and more a first date scenario. Each of us on our phone, laying in our different beds talking while using our laptops to search for things as they come up in our conversation.. I've listened to and seen videos from her favorite band.. she's seen video and pics of where I'm going to move after I retire. For 3 hours we laughed a lot and shared our future individual plans in a way that would not have been possible going out on a first date being surrounded by distractions of the outside world. And even though we were not face to face... I could feel the heat of her blush through the phone. :) In retrospect, it was refreshing not to have to do the sexual two-step and dance around the hormone vibe while trying to have an adult conversation about tastes, preferences and expectations. Now when we do meet those pieces of information will have had time to sink in.. the awkward moments that occur while talking about intimate wants and desires has already happened. Now we can look forward to our first meeting with the wish list already in hand. I suppose the next step will be FaceTime or some such video interfacing platform.. and I look forward to that... but last night was a unique "first date" for me. And it was brilliant.

I responded to some suggestive posts from friends on FB. DAMN! I'm hoping my family won't see...lol

Be yourself. She is, after all, in the end a girl like any other. deserving of the love and respect you would give any woman who comes into your life. Just be aware that if you get involved with her romantically and are seen by her family or community as trying to "convert" her or dissuade her from her beliefs there will be difficulties for her. This is irrespective of whether she is the one making the move away from her religion or not. You will be seen as a catalyst and used against her by people that wish to "save face" I lived in Malaysia for a year. Saw a couple of really troubling situations that did not end well for the young lady. My two cents. Good luck. :)

I haven't had an opportunity yet since stopping consuming alcohol (4+ years ago) to go on a date or even to discuss it with someone. All my rendezvous so far have been coffee so not an issue. I'm not a reformed alcoholic nazi or anything. I can be on board with a partner drinking at a social function or whatnot.. But I think I do need to be prepared, in the future, to evaluate whether a drinking date is too inebriated to have sex with. .Just because I no longer have to worry about my cut off point.. doesn't mean I shouldn't pay attention to hers.

The Rijks is phenomenal!! A visit to Rembrandt's house is also a must. 1600+ copper plate etchings,, what an incredible artist. I have been so fortunate to have been in the presence of many, many beautiful works during my travels but I think Michaelangelo"s unfinished statues at the Academy in Florence are among the most impressive and powerful pieces I have seen. Witnessing the form emerging from a block of stone touched by this master genius 500 years ago was a touchstone moment for my that established in my life what I consider to be the pinnacle of good art. When I say, "I don't know art.. but I know what I like." This would be it. :)
