Saw Iggy in Toronto '81.. At the Danforth music hall. Smallish event.. maybe 2500, certainly not packed.. licensed. so prone to good choices being made as the night wore on.. The chairs on the floor had been removed. It was festival seating before the time we all got together and decided festival seating was a bad thing. It was mayhem. There was a horseshoe balcony. I was there solo and had positioned myself stage left looking down onto the playing area literally no more than a hundred feet from ground zero to center stage. For that 1 hour and 10 minute performance I watched over Iggy's shoulder as he completely owned a space and an audience like I had never seen before or.. I'm sure since.. It was the moment I understood a little about how rock and roll pain and angst becomes a social cement.. that mosh pits are just extreme mall food courts. I watched an exchange between performer and audience that went way beyond your average concert sing-a-long. And it wasn't just energy being exchanged.. it was objects,, and people.. and fluids.. and insults.. and it was mayhem. Iggy was, on that evening, the epitomy, the perfect stereo type of what the more mainstream NY punk and alternative scene had developed mid - late 70's.. Lou Reed, David Bowie. Iggy was over his onstage "cutting" phase by then but his presence was raw and his influence continued to lay pave for Grunge and Nirvana. There was music played at ear bleed levels, yes. There were songs that told a story, yes. It was recognizable, rehearsed and professional. But it's violence and in your face counter culture were a time and place when the music shared the spotlight with the people who came to watch. It made things go everywhere, all at once. I got in shit for cutting class that night to go.. absolutely glad I did.

Fair is just another four letter word that starts with "F". If you think of yourself as a victim you will be. You cannot control what the father contributes. Have no expectation of help and you will not be disappointed. I don't know how old your child is ( I suspect still young ) but start embracing public school if that is your reality. If you don't, your child will walk in thinking it's inferior. That will suck for you and him. If you are concerned about the value of the education he will receive join the PTA and keep your ear to the ground. Actively contribute to his schooling. Nothing is easy about a relationship break down, especially when you are trying to do a raise up. But be successful at being the adult your child needs to progress beyond your current situation and you will have been a winner in all this.. and so will be your boy. I personally think it’s ok. But I think, from my past 2 experiences, the difficulties associated with a difference in age starts to become apparent when the major stages of life take over.. example.. in my mid 50’s my energy and motives to “succeed” became quite different from when in my early 40’s.. however my partner who was in her early 40’s was in that state of productivity and couldn’t reconcile the thought of herself suddenly being with a “senior”. I guess the internal clocks tick for everyone. And it’s always disappointing when the alarm goes off. Good luck!! Enjoy it while it lasts and keep communicating ??

Hey Merrie.. Before you go through the trouble of changing the chord and plug on your dryer ( I’M assuming you mean clothes not hair. ) Dryers run on 220v like your stove/ electric range. Heavy duty consumption devices. They also require more robust wiring and larger breakers in the electrical panel. Changing the cord/ plug won’t work. 3 (or 2) prong devices, average household devices, run on 110v.. These you can get an adapter for.. when you alter a 3 prong to a 2 prong you have just eliminated the neutral grounding. And yes.. it sucks not knowing “everything”!! ????
