Sorting footage and backing up video files to an external passport so I can dowmload an editing program onto my laptop tomorrow or Sunday. As close as it gets to arousing tonight.
A friend of mine took this at the Ocean Beach Pier today.

Davekp comments on Oct 14, 2018:
Hmmm.. the difficulty in our society having a logical discussion concerning this subject is that the mere mention of the label emotionally charges the air in the room. There are not many subjects remaining in our vernacular that throw up so many walls so quickly. It is this inability to bring the conversation into the light that continues to drive it underground into the dark. And the result is it's flourishing.
I believe this belongs here.

I probably would not. I'm risk adverse to that situation. In my experience it's easier to find a job when you already have one. I have the impression that the unemployed job seeker can have a certain air of desperation about them,, like actors auditioning.. especially the longer you are on your job search. I absolutely applaud your desire to be respectful and I understand that the opportunity to have a face to face is in front of you.. but ask yourself.. if your boss was considering terminating you in the next month or so do you think he would mention it in your meeting? Save yourself the stress of no money coming in with payments piling up. Good Luck!! :)

His reasoning for letting it remain is that the crucifix is a part of Quebec heritage. If that is the case.. it should be put in a museum where such icons and relics of history can be observed and studied within the larger context of Quebec's colorful back story.

Not to negate your trauma but.. Oh that's seriously funny!! I have a god guy at work that I bounce ideas off of. He's a creationist and... I'm not.. we get along fine. I'll ask him if he has any little "tricks" up his sleeve to ward off the devil in others. Come to think of it... he sometimes grabs me a coffee from the cafeteria. Maybe he laces it with holy water or something unbeknownst to me. :)

I worked for Margaret Atwood ( Writer: Handmaids Tale, etc.) for about 6 months in the mid '80s doing home reno work. Even though she was away most of the time promoting "Cat's Eye" I had several encounters with her that gave me a good glimpse into her sense of humour and thought process. Quite a person!
If you had to recommend someone watch 5 TV series, what would you pick?
Davekp comments on Oct 8, 2018:
Haven't watched "new" tv series for a while just kind of lost interest with other things to do,... watched a few episodes of Riverdale out of curiosity as to what they would do with the characters.. checked out Black Mirror for the story lines dealing with how Tech is affecting society. All things considered I think these 5 have some value beyond pure entertainment :) X-Files ( first 4 seasons), The Office, M*A*SH, Reboot (animated), and Schitt's Creek ( Canadian)
How old/young were you when you realized you were atheist/agnostic?
Davekp comments on Oct 8, 2018:
Around 13 or so.. I can remember the moment it happened. Through no real choice of my own I was confirmed as an Anglican and standing in church one Sunday shortly after that ceremony the minister asked the congregation to mindlessly repeat the phrase, " I am not worthy enough to pick up the crumbs from under the lords table." I was significantly confused about what I had done to become so unworthy. Upon reflection I decided I had done nothing so heinous as to warrant such an idea. From there it was a natural extension to wonder what other manipulative untruths were being fed to me by such "nice, nice" people. In the end I just decided that there was no lord and hence no table or crumbs to pick up. That conclusion has been working for me just fine ever since. :)

I'm a bit conflicted: over the last year I've observed no less than three- close friends going from ...
Davekp comments on Oct 7, 2018:
I feel for your situation. Finding out that a good friend has "found god" is kind of like finding out they've decided that heroin use is suddenly a great lifestyle choice. Of course time passes and situations change for all people. And of course not everyone follows you along on your journey much like you haven't followed along everyone you have known on theirs. I think much of our socialization is dependent on commonalities. When those common things change or disappear so do the connections. It might seem at first glance that your "friends" have moved into the " not much in common anymore" category. One thing I have come to realize is that there is no shame in walking away from people or situations that are an impediment to my well being. The question for me is how to do it. I do not feel that simply walking away or "ghosting" someone who has had a relevant importance in my life is a respectful thing to do. So I try to be honest with them as to what has occurred to make me feel the way I do and why I'm taking the action that I am. Depends on how you feel about closure I suppose. It may turn out to be that your honesty will help your friends temper their expectations of you and that you can remain friends in the long run. It's never easy cutting ties.. but if it's causing you enough stress to seek advice from this forum.. might be time to do it. Good luck!

New here! I’m kind of a closeted atheist with some family and friends.
Davekp comments on Oct 5, 2018:
Well.. it's just good to be polite to family, friends, old folk.. anyone really. But I think the bigger issue for me would be that the people I am dealing with don't really know me if I am not being honest with them. I thank them for their concern but frequently say something like, "Your god must be pleased with your thoughtfulness." I have found that religious people like to have their devotion acknowledged. This makes it easier for them to accept my non devotion.
Do any of you get frustrated having a debate with Christians ?
Davekp comments on Oct 5, 2018:
No I don't get frustrated because I don't get into debate mode with them. The conversations with my "god" friends/ co-workers/ acquaintances are mostly based on me listening and trying to assess just how deeply into their particular delusion. I don't want to have unnecessary conflict with anyone really.. so I find it helpful to know what buttons exist for them to be pushed and then do my best to avoid pushing them. That said.. I don't spend any significant amount of time "hanging out" with "god"folk.
At what age did you stop believing in traditional love as perpetuated in music / movies / mainstream...
Davekp comments on Oct 4, 2018:
Timely question for me as recent life events have forced a reevaluation of the notion of "traditional" love expressed in popular culture.. and I include the writing of Shakespeare in that pop culture influence. I agree that personal experience drives our perceptions. Through various decisions, choices and circumstances I was lucky enough to have children in my early to mid 40's. Better late than never. :) Unfortunately, my parenting partner, who is 12 years younger than I am saw me getting ready to retire just as she is starting a new career. She saw me suddenly as getting old where she is still "young" (comparatively). In a nutshell she felt ( her words) a mid-life crisis and needed to find the fulfillment she feels she would be missing out on if she continued on the path together. So.. with that little bit of back story.. As I move away from the notion of a secure relationship after 17 years I find that I no longer hold that feeling or maybe more accurately, expectation,of being with that "one true love" whom I have shared the traditional.. have kids, buy the house, plan for the future and grow old together.. picture of love. Don't know what it's turning into yet.. but always happy to embrace change..for sure scary to be 57 and suddenly a single parent to two teen boys.. but necessary to grow! And frankly.. what's happening to me has become the new norm for many. Maybe books, movies and music will start reflecting my reality.
