Yes, the great triump of Right Wing Economics since the 70s has been to peddle and smother the political/economic debate with this narrative that private good and government bad. Even when the economic system came close to collapse in 2008, due to uncontrolled private financial system, the response by the right was bale us out and then remove what few resictions were left. But this dominant economic ideology has unravelled since that time; popular sentiment has turned against this right wing economic paradigm, and the right wingers flounder around, still peddling their discredited theories, like a gambler for whom one last bet will save the day, or an alcoholic who really only needs one last drink. But the progressive side of politics needs to stand up, argue its case, and stop cowering to attacks from the right.

I think many so-called believers are religious only in the sense of the habit, ritual and identity of religion, and not in any real sense to the claims and beliefs of religion. Press them on their religion and you get little more than a simple summary of religious clichés. Good point about this word and the reaction people have. Change the word God to "Gerald" and how would people react? "Gerald loves me. I'm agnostic about Gerald. Son of Gerald born of a virgin. It's the Will of Gerald." Gerald is just a sound formed in our brains expressed in speech. So is God. The word is used to provoke an emotional response. But it's just a word, a sound. Atheists like me either never have had, or have expunged, an emotional response to this sound. It's just a sound. It doesn't mean anything.

None of this white wash of Trump is a surprise to me. I predicted it months ago, and posted on it here. The American Establishment again protected itself. They weren't able to save Nixon. They've learnt since then. Any effort to destroy a Democratic President, though that party is hardly progressive, and no effort spared to protect their party of oligarchy, the Republican party. It's part of the decline of America, the drift towards autocracy. Probably inexorable. Mueller wasn't strong enough to stand up to the momentum. I predicted he wouldn't. Space movies are a projection of ourselves. Little to do with real space. Bangs and explosive sounds in space. No Sounds of spaceships whizzing by. No Massive acceleration and deceleration, no impact. I've long since abandoned any reference to agnosticism to describe myself. I'm an atheist, but if anyone comes up with evidence of any God then we'll look at it. So it's not a rigid belief claim, as some argue. I have no expectation that any evidence will come along though. I know there are positions of agnostic/atheist. I've heard them. They don't impress me however.

I've left notes that there will no ceremony, just cremation, and I'd like my ashes spread in Thailand. The last night be a challenge. But here's an irony: back in the 80s, along with other family members, I bought a plot at my home town Catholic church cemetery. It cost $200. A lot back then. We recently laid my mother to rest there. It's impossible to buy plots there now. But I don't want to be buried there. I don't want to be buried, and I don't want to be in a church cemetery. So I'll never use it. I own a valuable plot that I don't want. What an irony. And I sure could use that 200 dollars now. :-)

I remember being impressed by a lecture by Lawrence Krause about the universe never being "empty". Even space with particles passing through it removed has quantum level virtual particles popping in and out. Not just interesting as a scientific point, but on religion, the false claim that there had to be God because nothing can come from nothing. Wrong. There's never nothing, it seems in science.
