Trump: Gut funding for climate science, boost fossil fuels - ABC News
DavidLaDeau comments on Feb 14, 2018:
As a former evangelical it believe I should explain their position whether it is liked or not just for the sake of understanding. They do not believe that climate change is necessarily real or imminent, or that we could do anything about it anyway. Sometimes those such as Pence believe Jesus will come and God will destroy the world anyway very soon so it does not matter. When it comes to the use of fossil fuels they believe and are correct that is is the cheapest short term solution that will have the greatest positive impact on our economy and thus make us a stronger nation. Again I do not advocate their position. It is important to understand that if they were correct in their understanding that their position would be very reasonable and logical. It would not be a position of environmental terrorism or that of those whom are not concerned about the people of the United States. Look again at what I stated as their position again with that in mind. Now we must address and debunk the mindset before we can begin to address the issues, bearing in mind they are humans(if misguided) that in their minds are doing good.

DavidLaDeau comments on Feb 14, 2018:
Let's now delve into semantics. I am an apostate. If the definition of heretic is specifically one whom CHOOSES to leave, I do not fit into that category. As the late Christopher Hitchens said " Atheism is not chosen, it is discovered." In the spirit of what is probably actually meant I am definitely a heretic. The word heretic simply refers to some one who does not accept orthodox or "the right" beliefs.

DavidLaDeau comments on Feb 12, 2018:
Those people who deny understanding o evidence are not going to reason at all. They are more concerned about being right than having a better understanding. Many theist are unconcerned with facts at all. They have spent their lives overlooking them. They simply wish to get a gotcha statement and feel better about themselves for defending their god. What I find interesting is that they need to defend an all powerful god in the firs place. When I ask them why they must defend an all powerful god it gets much more fun. They may say that he wishes to be unknown. So I point out their going against gods will by telling me about him. If they say they have to spread gods word. I tell them that An all knowing god would know i would not take "just some gus word" for something that important and would be actually even less inclined to believe in that god if he had to have minions to speak for him, as any false god would have to have. That pretty much ends the conversation.

Do you know the difference between Agnostic & Atheist?
DavidLaDeau comments on Jan 30, 2018:
Agnostic is a knowledge statement. I can not claim to know that a god does not exist if the definition of god is something that can not be detected or comprehended. I am therefore an agnostic. Atheist is a belief statement- I do not believe there is a god, or I do not believe in god. Most atheist are also agnostic. In my case I can not claim to know what I by definition can not know. So I am agnostic. But I do not spend my time wondering if there could be a magic unicorn god living in my butt. I am with all of my knowledge, experience and understanding 100% certain there i no god, so I am an atheist.

To most people Judiasm just poped up on its own. It did not. It is actually a relatively new religion about maybe 5000 years old. It is amazing how people scoff at the actual history of the religion. I belive the reason for this is that most people are completely unaware of its orgins, in particular Jews and Christians.

There were Jewish gnostic sects before Christianiy was ever though of. Most of thwritings have been destroyed and they were so insignificant they were not often written about. The parables are an excellent example of gnostic thinking, they are very clearly speaking of hidden knowlage.I hope I have given a desent answer.

DavidLaDeau comments on Jan 28, 2018:
I am often told online that atheist are not qualified to interpret the Bible. I would argue the opposite is true. Chrstians read much dogma into the Bible that is not there without knowing it. Lets start at the beginning. God and Jesus decide to make man and do so. Eve is convienced by Satan to eat an apple and that causes Original Sin. Right? Nope. The Genisis 1:26 says "let us" not god and Jesus. It was a snake not Satan as he would not be thought of for hundreds of years like Jesus. It was "Fruit " not an apple. Original sin was not made up unitl St. Augistine made it up in his book City of God in the late 5th century. We at this point have not yet gotten into the fouth chapter. Imagine how much more dogma is read into the remaining 1186 chapters! It is much better for a non bias historian to interpret the Bible as they will not read religious dogma into it.

Stereotyping is a natural human behavior that will never cease to exist as long as we are humans. As primative man we put all Preditors in the "bad" catagory. Those who did not are not our ansestors! Today when Jehovah's witnesses show up on our doorstep we do not expect to dragged out on the street and lynched (though listening to them might seem almost as bad). My point here is that Sterotyping is necessary for us to judge our surroundings. This methodology is not always benifital or correct, but it is how our brain functions and how we interact with each other. I simply accept it for what it is, good and bad, and do not see it as anything to admire or to hate. I think the best Qoutte concerning the subject is from Dr. Martin Luther Kig Jr. "I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but the content of their charactor." This will of course never happen completely, but it is a great ideal to strive for.

Do most older men prefer a younger model?
DavidLaDeau comments on Jan 27, 2018:
We are programmed to want to breed. Our function is to procreate to produce the next generation. Not very politcally correct or even a nice thought but true. So both male and female tend to be attreacted to those that appear most suited to breed. This is not something we wish to think about but it is what drives our sexuality. I'm getting to be an old geezer. No matter how smart I may be or how wise, some stupid, Ugly, obese kid will normally be more disireable to most young females than I. That is necessary for proprogation as a species. As far as biology and evolution is concerned I have had two children that are of breeding age, I have done my job and am no longer necessary. Not particularly flattering.

What are your favorite websites?
DavidLaDeau comments on Jan 27, 2018:
http://atheistnexus.org/ This is one of my favorite hang outs. If you have any question at all concerning atheism or theism there are expert members that can give you any "correct" answer to any question you might have. The site is for Athiets only so theres no trolls or arguing that happens. If you have a question say on the environment, be prepared for more links and references than you will ever need.
Survey Says?
DavidLaDeau comments on Jan 27, 2018:
If we dispose of the survey aspect of the issue we can have an objective issue to discuss. People are indeed guided by religious beliefs. That is the issue here. Many of these decisions made due to religious beliefs are certainly benign and cause no harm to others. There are the more problematic ideas planted by religion like; Its a good idea to strap a bomb to your 10 year olds chest to kill some people "For God."
Anyone have funny/great pet or animal tales to tell?
DavidLaDeau comments on Jan 27, 2018:
My wife and I had a pot belly pig. Our Dachshund one day really chewed him up. There was blood everywhere. I had to wash the blood from the pig to assess the injuries as the blood was dried and all over his body and legs. So I decided to wash the pig in the shower. He loved water so why not? Lets just say it was and emergency and I did not want to get my clothes bloody. After I washed the pig and was able to get him clean enough to tend to the injuries, I realized something. I had just showered necked with a pig!!!!

To those who were raised in a religious household, what made you abandon your family's beliefs?
DavidLaDeau comments on Jan 27, 2018:
When I went into the Military I was exposed to many beliefs. The most shocking was many people did not care about God at all. I realized that many beliefs coflicted with one another. They could not all be right and were as convinced as I was that their path was the correct one. If there was one true religion, the majority of people had to be wrong. As highly unlikely as it was (almost impossible) I came to terms that it at least could be possible I was wrong. I was convinced that all the answers were in the bible and actually became more religious. I had nothing to fear "The truth would set me free", that It eventually did. Free from religion.

The same principal is not limited to materalism. Theism happens to be an excellent example of and idea owning a person as they become a emotive and cognative slave to it. Do they really own the idea of theism? Do they control it or is it like a drug that controls them?

What struck me is the quote "You could generate something from nothing." Intelligent desin people always say "You think somthing came from nothing" when making the cosmological arguement. to which I resopond " I did not say that, I don't know the origins of the universe, I just don't pretend to know waht I don't know." With the experiments at CERN, the verification of the Higgs bozon has already proven that matter can come into existance "from nothing."
Morality?
DavidLaDeau comments on Jan 26, 2018:
I no longer catagorize sex as having anything to do with morality. The moral aspects of sex is a cultural and religious imposition on biology and instinct. I don't think its morally wrong to breathe, it is natural to all mammals, should we also question its morality? I do realize that sex is more complicated with humans, the great apes that we are, but this is simply self imposed. Now I certianly do not plan on cheating on my wife but that is to honor her wishes and the expectations of others. Getting down to brass tacks, I do not feel guilty for being human and having sexual desires. It is very helpful for ensureing the survival of our species. Religion simply uses our natural instincts againt us to control us and make us more dependent on relgion. Nope, don't need to take part in that.
Was sex more fun when you still believed in original sin?

Wha is the difference between instinct and intuition? How would wou describe it?
DavidLaDeau comments on Jan 26, 2018:
Instinct is something we inherit, an animal instinct. Intuition come form experience and subconcious logic. Intuition can also sometimes associated to a feeling that comes from "spiritual magic." This understanding of the word often is the source of mythicism.
