DenoPenno comments on Jan 12, 2020:
My letting go of god came about in my mind as I watched Jerry DeWitt videos on You Tube. He was the first graduate of the clergy project and listening to him caused me to decide I was an atheist. You do not need to "come out" as one, however. It may cause you problems, especially in the job market.

Less fear of hell?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 12, 2020:
I have no fear of hell at all. This comes from my approach to scriptures and where they came from along with when we actually got the bible as we know it today. If you study this you can see it was ever changing from the 4th century until now. The wonderful apologists keep trying to explain everything for the modern world and their views change also. I just do not buy it. My Buybull daze is over.
It's sometimes strange to look back on one's self in the past, particularly the distant past.
DenoPenno comments on Jan 12, 2020:
The song "Imagine" is a very good example here. Most people do not see it but they love the song. Maybe they just imagine "no war" and don't see the rest. Within myself I see too much change in too short a time. Some things just within the last 4 years or so. It is so uncanny. I see things differently now than when I was with my ex. Not anything that would have saved that union but things that might have slowed the inevitable down some. I see changes in outright belief of mine over time, and also some in just a short few years. I learn more and it is enlightening. Sometimes you realize that something you took as fact for a long time is not fact at all. Suddenly you wake up to this and wonder how you ever had it wrong to start with. Living alone allows me this and I see that life is quite an adventure and a development.

DenoPenno comments on Jan 11, 2020:
Certainly, but I don't care for them much. I'm not into Plato or Epicurus. I don't read or argue Socrates. They offer nothing to me in the modern world and I blatantly refuse to discuss religious philosophy. I will bring out religious ideas by bible claims but usually it is to show you how silly it all is.

DenoPenno comments on Jan 11, 2020:
Where you live is your choice but I live as I do in Missouri because I have a $200 mortgage. If I move and increase that along with utilities, etc. and do not increase my income I am in trouble. This is how I look at it. Sometimes others do not understand that and they move to a high dollar area. At my work we are paid twice a month and Friday the assistant manager was showing off his bank account with $4.29 left in it. To live like that I might start thinking suicide. :)

DenoPenno comments on Jan 11, 2020:
We share a lot of similar things and I can identify with a lot of what you are saying. I was also Pentecostal. Today I am a militant atheist. My weapon of choice is a keyboard. I might add that I do feel extremely isolated but I have brought this upon myself. There is no going back. This journey is like the Wizard of Oz once you have seen behind the curtain.
The best thing about being agnostic is knowing (as much as it is humanly possible) there is no hell.
DenoPenno comments on Jan 11, 2020:
Of course there is no hell. That concept came out of the confusion and misdirected developments presented in religious writings and scripture. If I do not believe these writings to be valid from any source why would I believe in a hell? Many people go around saying "yeah, but there still could be a god." Why would they want one? Are there people going around saying "yeah, there still could be a hell?" Once again, why would you want one? Is there life after death? IDK. Is your food still there on your plate once you have eaten it? How will it be reborn? You may take this as comedy but I am answering some very serious questions.
It was true then and it is also true today. Time to Dump Trump.

DenoPenno comments on Jan 11, 2020:
Of course they do. This is because it is all about money and wealth, especially mineral wealth. Americans are played back and forth by both parties and so is the rest of the world. Just when you have had enough of it from one party the other one steps in to let you believe you are actually getting your treasured way of life back. Both parties work for the controllers and one is more extreme than the other. Currently we have a wave of "god's last stand" in which Evangelicals agg this all on in hopes of bringing about the second coming. If Jesus returns through our border with Mexico he will never be recognized. Religious hypocrites are falling right in there with our controllers. None of this is about you or your welfare in any way.

Sorry for your bad experience as I was once a fundamentalist. My stepson's wife thinks we are going to war with Iran. This morning she posted in Facebook that "god should protect our troops if it is his will" and this crap went on and on in a meme. I had to answer. I asked her what if it was not god's will. In that case we are all screwed! She didn't like it, but I'm tired of all these prayers "if it is god's will." Your fundamentalist BF seems delusional.
Does anyone else have a homophobic family member?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 10, 2020:
Lots of people seem to think that "the gay might rub off." This nonsense goes on into the religious community. It seems strengthened by the HIV threat because many do not know that sex is not the only way to become HIV. Are any of these people the same as rapists, pedophiles, and others? Not that I'm aware of. Your neighbor might be a murderer but then maybe they are not.
What if there was never religion in the world?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 10, 2020:
It would have never happened that way. Just look at our world today. Everything is about power and control. Religion is used in this game of power and control. It is nice to know that your god is on your side. You are the only one who has the right god.

What is circumcision for? In areas of the world where there is not water enough to wash the male member as it should be, this practice has benefits. For most of us in this modern world today it has little or none. When it is done to women and young girls it is nothing but mutilation. A crime that should have severe punishments. There was a time in America when male circumcision was pushed as a means of preventing boys from masturbation. Not only was god concerned with this but so were parents and a man named Kellogg. I do not believe, however, that he put foreskins in his cereal. Just a nasty rumor.

Hi.
DenoPenno comments on Jan 8, 2020:
It is that way in my workplace as well and here is how I handle the pretense. To start with I do not talk religion. When it does come up and gets to that level I tell everyone that I used to be religious and I studied to be a Pentecostal preacher, however, I am no longer religious. That usually ends it all. When it fails and some idiot asks me why I no longer believe I will correct them by saying "you are putting words in my mouth, as I said I am no longer religious." Since none of these people are twice or more a week church people who cannot wait for the church house doors to open, this usually does the trick. The bottom line is that they are people just like you, and this applies to most people. I also live and work in small town areas. I currently have no social life but you should not allow others to limit yours.

DenoPenno comments on Jan 7, 2020:
Trump has killed an Iranian general on Iraqi soil and says it was a needed action for our safety. Next we see Iran replacing this slain general with another that Soleimani himself had trained. Is there any difference? Different man, same objectives. On the American side of this we see the Trump base pushing the fact that Trump is protecting us and he really believes "America first." What I see is a distraction from impeachment and beating the drum of false patriotism for the 2020 re-election. Trump is ready to trade American lives for votes. Watch the news objectively and you will learn that 8 years and more of foreign policy has been removed. Things are getting worse now because of this. Trump and his handlers think they have done a good job but the man should never have been POTUS. We are in the grip of a terrorist regime and nobody sees a way out. I expect stupid replies to my words talking about everybody else and everything else to try and defend Trump. That is not how it is done. You cannot defend your friend by talking about other people. You cannot defend your wife by talking about other women. If you see what has happened here you cannot defend Trump by talking anything in the past. Some go so far as to say that my words show my hypocrisy. In what way? In the past someone told me that "I am hiding behind my military service." WTF. How in the hell do you do that?

DenoPenno comments on Jan 6, 2020:
And you are correct. This perfect god of the bible wanted to get humans started on the earth through a process called incest. If you believe Adam and Eve it could be no other way. Then he decided to destroy us because of sin. WTF is that? Later, through Noah and sons god once again would try to populate earth through incest once again. The apologists try to hide this and explain it away differently. Then you have this all knowing perfect god trying to send you to a hell that he created just for you if you do not believe in him. These are two of the reasons I do not want to be singing his praises forever and ever.
Should creationism be taught in schools?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 6, 2020:
I agree with this post but it does not mean I think creation should be taught in the classroom. I'm speaking here in a similar way as to what would happen if you teach religion in the classroom. Evangelicals want religion taught their way in claiming we are a Christian Nation. The reality of teaching religion in the classroom would be a brief mention of all religions. Being educated is not a religious matter.

I fully agree. My religious friend is still trying to view world events through his knowledge of the book of Revelation. Sorry. America and Britian are not in there. Neither is Russia.
PA GOP Wants Death Certificate, Burial For Fertilized Eggs That Don’t Implant
DenoPenno comments on Dec 29, 2019:
I agree with your every word. If we want to go with this kind of GOP nonsense then we need to do the same thing every time a male ejaculates. This is nothing more than wanting a death certificate for a miscarriage. Best thing the ladies can do on this one is keep their mouths shut if they miscarry unless they are in hospital at the time.
Man who made 27,000 crosses for shooting victims is retiring
DenoPenno comments on Dec 28, 2019:
Crosses have been given too much power in our mythical religious world. I would not want one, wear one, or be buried with one.
How do you answer "How are you today?"
DenoPenno comments on Dec 28, 2019:
I agree with you. People that ask how you are really do not want to know. They simply want to appear as friendly and professional. I've taken to a smile and the answer that says "I could be better but then I could be worse." :)

Why do Christians get threatened and terrified by Atheists?
DenoPenno comments on Dec 28, 2019:
I think that deep down they all know it is BS. I read once of a believer killing his friend who was an atheist. To me this smacks of "how dare you tell me that my parents and grandparents were wrong about god." Non-belief upsets the apple cart. I want to believe. I was once on another site where the girl in question always thought it would be so nice if a god existed just like it said in the bible. She also wanted so badly to be married. When she quit the site she admitted she had went back to religion again and was marrying a believe. As for validity of Genesis I am always amazed that god wanted to destroy the people because of sin. What sort of sin is not stated but everyone thinks it was sexual. How could this be when god wanted to use incest to populate the earth - TWICE. This gets worse when apologists try to use the timeframe allowed to explain it was not incest and yet it is because of sin that we do not live so long today.

DenoPenno comments on Dec 28, 2019:
What is the word of god? Why would I think that one person has it when another person does not?
I hear from my brother frequently about how concerned he is I'm going to hell.
DenoPenno comments on Dec 27, 2019:
People fall for this because of indoctrination. People worried about an unknown part of you going to be burning forever in an unknown place need to back off and get a grip. When couples split because of this and one cries so much you see the big tears, there is usually a minister somewhere agging it on because his congregation once was both of you and he sees now that 1 is better than none. This would be about the money unless that minister is exceptionally stupid. Take that situation back to just you and your brother it shows that your brother remains indoctrinated.
I was having a conversation with a Christian friend about free will.
DenoPenno comments on Dec 27, 2019:
The big "free will argument" comes about because it is so important that you want to worship god of your own free will. I always heard that god could have robots or angels worship him but with humans it is their choice to do so. This is free will. This is why even the angels are looking into this area of humanity. Once you study enough the big question becomes who in their right mind would want to worship this ignorant tribal god? Why would anyone want to worship anything? On the other hand the murderer has free will to murder you just as you have free will to be murdered. There are no gods in that equation.
If you think it is the right thing to "respect other's beliefs", please tell me why?
DenoPenno comments on Dec 27, 2019:
I do not respect other people's beliefs. Some beliefs are crazy as shit!
How do my fellow Atheists deal with depression?
DenoPenno comments on Dec 27, 2019:
I'm probably more depressed now than I was before. I take no meds for it, but just live with it. Nothing is real. We have the god myth and cartoon characters sell us insurance and other products and things. Movies make up entire histories of make believe situations they think we are so enamored with and they just keep going. The world you thought you knew is no longer there at all. Demands of logic and evidence show this as fact. Anxiety comes in and you cannot sleep more than 2 hours at a time but refuse to take meds for it because you have to know what is going on. I just deal with it and refuse to give in to demands of this new idiotic world. Therapy might help but most likely a therapist today would even recommend god. It's all a catch 22.

DenoPenno comments on Dec 26, 2019:
What I see out of the enter mess is the biggest bunch of disappointment that I've ever seen in my life. I'm talking about both parties here but the Trumpers are just ignorant. One wanted to argue with me today that Obama was babied because he is a black man. I pointed out that Obama is no longer in power and Mitch McConnell said early on that he would do everything he could to see that Obama was a one term president. So much for coddling and babying.
Make them believe in something young, then they have a chance of controlling them as adults.
DenoPenno comments on Dec 26, 2019:
I believe that children figure it out about Jesus also. The problem is that due to conditioning they keep on playing that same old game. They know it but still play it. Part of this is because there is no Church of Santa where they refresh it all week to week.
UPDATE if you read my post about my major Dilemma.
DenoPenno comments on Dec 26, 2019:
Even that Rascal Paul said that the believer in a relationship might influence the non-believer in the end and that this was a reason to stay together. Oh, well. Everyone cherry picks the bible.
In a couple of my Amazon books I mention the danger of a self-fulfilling prophesy.
DenoPenno comments on Dec 26, 2019:
In Evangelical Christianity it is widely believed that Gog and Magog as mentioned in the bible is Russia. I'm here today to tell you that your bible says nothing of Russia, and it also says nothing of the USA.
