The republican great lie
DenoPenno comments on Jul 3, 2019:
This is exactly what it means. They reinforce this in peoples minds with words like "entitlements" because they can point out that social security is only a tax and you think you are "entitled" to it. They get away with this one because most people are not old enough to be drawing social security money of any kind. An exercise in thinking comes out here as I told a young person at work yesterday that I got another phone call about my "social security number being compromised" and I'm laughing at this scam. He said I should be concerned with that **at my age**. I told him we should all be concerned with it and age has nothing to do with it. He has that younger GOP thinking that they push on us all.
Here comes the Fourth of July! Tanks in DC and kids in cages on the border.
DenoPenno comments on Jul 3, 2019:
Very much is wrong with this. Trump is using it to appeal to his base and beyond with sights set on 2020. It means a big military parade paid for by the government is part of his re-election campaign. This should be against the law but I don't hear any complaints. He does this while some point out that the DC monuments need billions in repairs and our border still has a concentration camp. To show that he is a "nice guy" the Orange Clown is holding back on ICE roundups until after the 4th, and he is simply fining a lot of illegals in the mean time. Does he expect them to pay? Maybe he wants you to compare this to his tariff taxes that only Americans are paying. In with all this I am told that the Baby Trump diapered blimp will fly along with it all. Maybe we can't blame poor Donnie so much. The poor rich bum just wanted a firecracker and a show of military might. Dictators do that all the time.
Dating a Christian?
DenoPenno comments on Jul 3, 2019:
Of course it is a big issue. Anyone who is having a nice day "by the grace of god" will sooner or later end up in tears over you because some invisible part of you is doomed to hellfire by an invisible man. I'm telling it just like it is. For the record, have you heard of Lee Strobel? Long story short on this man he and his wife did not believe but secretly his wife and kids started going to church. Today Lee is said to be a big believer also after writing a book that was intended to disprove everything. It did not work that way and Lee wrote The Case For Christ, The Case For The Resurrection, etc. and there is the movie about it all and so forth. It seems very plain to me what Lee was doing. **He was saving his marriage**.I might add that these days it also makes him a pretty good living.
I am a 100% skeptic about all things supernatural! Do any of you hold on to any supernatural ...
DenoPenno comments on Jul 3, 2019:
I'm aware that some people believe in the supernatural in many different forms. I used to believe all the nonsense as a younger man when I got hooked on religion. The bottom line is that gods are supernatural and there is no supernatural. Proof of anything supernatural is just like evidence for or against a god being. People that believe it usually have a confirmation bias in the first place, or they do not understand things well. To believe it you obviously want it to be real.

DenoPenno comments on Jun 30, 2019:
I remember "being saved." It was a religious high that was as great as any drug. You could be happy and drunk at the same time. Oh, so wonderful. Today I ask "saved from what?" The answer is that you are saved from what god was going to do to you if you did not believe in him and go along with him. This means that god was the problem all along.

Orwell’s 1984 no longer reads like fiction. It’s the reality of our times — RT Op-ed
DenoPenno comments on Jun 30, 2019:
This is all a double edged sword. Facebook and others were promoted and invented with false ideas of getting groups and families together in some common meeting place complete with pictures and stories. It turned into a giant marketing venture along every avenue possible and the founders got rich by selling the complex data. This is actually what government, military, and mega-marketers wanted but then jealousy and a demand for data caused limitations to be put on the founders. False info was planted by groups wanting political control and hate speech was everywhere on FB and others. I've read that Zuckerberg is working with a conservative group now. The idea is to change how we view certain ideas from the right. Trump has said that he wants a list of everybody that does not like him. I'm not sure this will happen but I have been censored on my own site and the man that reported me came there to argue with me and got angry that he did not "win." Facebook took his side and erased my convo with him. I took out a few swear words and reposted again. I'm glad that hate mongers and hate groups are disappearing from Facebook and others. I even see some new items sneaked in by management that show pictures of nice animals and puppies. I'm seeing far left false info and speculative info that could never be true, but then neither are angels. People in power want Facebook info because Americans have now become the product and the database is so large. I do not want Alex Jones and don't give a damn about Donald Trump but my words are my opinion and not "hate speech." Everyone should have a right to their opinion and when that changes we know that 1984 has finally arrived and is no longer just a novel or a movie. When Donald Trump said "fake news" and claimed that what we see and hear is not what is really happening he opened a door that also brought in pixies and a moon made of green cheese. He cannot have total control of what he is creating but I hear that You Tube is in process of doing their own cleansing of things right now also. All we can do is hope for the best.
A "perfect world" is theoretically possible, is it not?
DenoPenno comments on Jun 30, 2019:
The JW's have it figured out. The perfect world right here on earth where the lion plays with the lamb. Lions also no longer eat meat. They eat straw now and I guess their teeth have changed. Hard to eat straw with those pointy teeth. On the serious side, get rid of greed and let everyone become concerned with their fellow man and this earth could become the perfect world. There would still be problems but we would work together toward common gain to solve them. Misinformation and the love of money prevents all of this now. Would it all matter as an atheist or agnostic? Would it improve our vision and outlook? Certainly because life has the meaning that you give it. Harmony is much better than earthly strife. This is why people invented gods and stories of heaven. Rather than false hope we need real hope.

DenoPenno comments on Jun 30, 2019:
At least you came to your senses. A religious friend of mine knows for sure that I could meet women at church. He tells me all the time I should start going again. Knowing my disbelief doesn't stop him because his book tells him everybody knows there is a god. What he has in mind for me is alter time and "Oh, Jebus, I am so sorry." Of course we go that route because Suzie, my new church GF, is right there to help me. I think the whole idea is so sorry!

I'm an agnostic/atheist if you can deal with that. As a younger man I was tricked into believing in a god and I studied to be a Pentecostal minister. Wanting to know things, I studied much more than just the bible. I was in my 60's when it all rang true. There are no gods and no evidence of gods. There is no evidence that gods wrote you a book and told you what to do. No evidence of gods wanting to be in touch with you. The bible as we know it today came some 300 plus years after Jesus, who himself might be a composite of more than one man. Prophesy in the bible is contrived in order to make it fit the situation. Jesus is about as real as Zeus or Jupiter. You do not have or possess a "soul" and there is no proof that you are doing anything or going anywhere after death. Do my beliefs scare me in any way? No, I'm more free right now that I have been in my whole life.

The universe could be infinite. If it is, it will be very much like the god of the believers. They claim their god always existed, so why not the universe? DenoPenno comments on Jun 26, 2019:
Some of this may be true. Wasn't there a famous non-believer who recently got baptized "just in case?" I'm trying to figure out how you would "go back" when you find that Jesus appears to be a conglomerate of several people and his big book of "how it all happened" seems to have been put together some 300 plus years after the times of Jesus. This is exactly why that book makes no sense and is contradictory. If a person knows this how can they believe the gospels were written by followers when the gospels themselves are so flawed? How does one know these things and pray and blubber "oh, Jebus, I am so sorry?" Why would you be sorry for finding the truth? On the other hand, you could come to a truth that Saul of Tarsus is credited with writing two thirds of the NT and he never knew or met Jesus. Christianity follows him and this man never knew if he was "in or out of his body" when he got his revelations.
Dementia risk tied to these commonly prescribed drugs in a new study - CNN
DenoPenno comments on Jun 25, 2019:
It all comes and goes as to what is healthy. Personally I take the older meds and refuse to help them get more money by having a new med for something. Example is that I only take one BP med and I get it totally free on my plan. I do this by splitting the pill for my dosage. I know others who allow the doctor to put them on 2 types of BP meds to "get the job done." This type of confusion makes more money for the drug company. You have to ask yourself if it is about your health - or not?

Sorry you had to go through this. A "commercial for Jesus" is a good way of phrasing it. A friend of mine died a few years ago and we had a wake planned for him at the Community Center. He was no longer religious but had some friends who were. His wife had already passed on. This was supposed to be about a remembrance of his life. Before it was over I thought it was a revival meeting. You also have to watch JW's for this at their funerals. They mostly have a closed casket and then the service turns into something you need to start doing in order to make sure you have "hope" and death is not your final destiny. It seems that everybody alive is so damned afraid.

Intuition: this is a subject that has been studied aggressively for the past few years.
DenoPenno comments on Jun 24, 2019:
Intuition is very real and often you can use it to great advantage. It is a gut feeling and you learn some things but it is not real. Imagine your mom looking into your eyes to see if you are lying. She just knew you were and you got caught often because of this. At the end of the day intuition is sort of as reliable as hearing your phone ring and thinking "this has happened before." Of course, that is deja vue. :)
Russia & partners to counter new US sanctions on Iran
DenoPenno comments on Jun 24, 2019:
Do we need sanctions on Iran? People complain about the money we gave them but forget that we were giving back their money that we had confiscated. Recently we had a confrontation in the Gulf of Hormuz involving 2 Japanese ships and the US was quick to blame Iran, and it was Iran that rescued some of the sailors. The ships owners did not even agree with Iran being the attackers and it might have been more likely to have been an attack by Godzilla for all we know. Now Iran shoots down our drone and claims we were in their air space. The US denies it. Oil seems to be what this is all about and the US is an oil company with an army. Gas prices were supposed to go up at the pump but in my area they are going down. Putin told the US to leave Iran alone. Strange that just this morning I heard we gave Iran a bad cyber virus. Two days ago I heard the same thing about Russia. My question is did we give each of these countries a virus, or did we not give any of them a virus? Trump always said that what is in the news is NOT what is really going on and I thought he simply wanted everyone to believe only him. I do not believe Trump but at this moment I am not sure just what is going on.

What do you think about Deism?
DenoPenno comments on Jun 23, 2019:
Deism is what we had without science. This is because science was in its infancy and did not explain anything. People all want to explain things and Deism claims an unknowable god being or supreme being set things in motion and disappeared. You can never know anything about this being and it did not intend for you to know. Many of our Founding Fathers were Deists. Franklin often spoke of "divine providence" but there was no being to pray to, grant wishes, or change anything in your life. Seems to me on the question of how we all got here an answer that simply said "we do not know" would have been good enough.

Trump and his supporters need to wake up and realize something in this self created border crisis. What is likely to happen first. Will Central America and others run out of people wanting to cross our border, or will the USA run out of money to continue this nonsense? Trump supporters justify this treatment by saying that if they did not cross our borders this would not be happening. The blind are leading the blind here and some think they should all be shot. Where in the world today does this happen? I once went to Kenya without a visa. I guess that meant I should be shot. Dump Trump and take back America. This is not the direction we want to go.

DenoPenno comments on Jun 22, 2019:
Things are termed miraculous because others term them so. In your case did the EOD officer hold any position of authority that would have to do with odds? Things happen and not always as a logical mind would seem to want them to happen. This would be so in your auto accident. I also had an auto accident at a high rate of speed where I hit a mailbox and it broke my windshield, hitting the car roof right before my face. Many said that it was the grace of god that kept that mailbox from coming on through and knocking my head off. My simple answer is that** this was the way it happened**. It has nothing to do with gods or meaning in the universe. I will add however that if you are looking for gods, meaning in the universe, or anything deemed supernatural that you will find it.

DenoPenno comments on Jun 20, 2019:
I'm glad you posted because this response is so very typical. For some reason believers of religion think that you have to be "worshiping" something. I've never understood it because there is little proof that they worship either. Instead they have an endless barrage of BS that has changed drastically in my lifetime.

Do you suspect there is an evangelical arm of atheism that wants to convert religious practitioners ...
DenoPenno comments on Jun 20, 2019:
Most certainly. This is because religious thinking has no logic or evidence. Religious thinking believes in advance.
A question I have pondering upon for some time.
DenoPenno comments on Jun 20, 2019:
Closure would be the main thing here for those that remain after your leaving. In my case I am going to be cremated. My family will gather at the funeral home or some other place of gathering with pictures of me on a big portable board and discuss me in remembered stories and by picture. This is pretty much it. That will be the celebration of my life.
The bottom line for me becoming an atheist is the feeling of freedom.
DenoPenno comments on Jun 20, 2019:
I like your creed and I believe in nothing supernatural. This was not always the case, but these days I can debunk almost everything.
I am wondering to what extent people decide to be atheist/agnostic or just grow out of religion
DenoPenno comments on Jun 20, 2019:
If you simply "decide" to be an atheist you can also "decide" to go back the theism. I knew of such a person once in another forum. She always thought the idea of a god was so grand, and she really wished it had been true. One day she announced she could no longer be a member in good conscience because she had married a religious man and was a believer again. OMG, how would you deal with thoughts inside that head? I can imagine her praying for the "faith" that it might take to believe and praying along with words like "help my unbelief." This would be shere torture. In my case logic and evidence played a big part of becoming atheist. Too much bible study cover to cover and being honest with myself about the invisible man, his kingdom, and his plan. None of it holds water.
Political Correctness IS bigotry: intolerance screamed at other's ideas.

The Belief That Trump Is a Messiah Is Rampant and Dangerous | Psychology Today
DenoPenno comments on Jun 18, 2019:
My take on this is the way it is set up. Trump is the buffoon that has Mike Pence as his VP. If Trump was out of the way tomorrow the Evangelicals know that Pence would be in power and they see the long awaited Christian Nation as something that was in god's plan all along. It's only a heartbeat away! As for Donald Trump I would vote for a pile of dogshit before I ever voted for that man. Both he and Pence are a big joke!
Do you have to be a rationalist to be agnostic/ atheist? Is there space for magical thinking?
DenoPenno comments on Jun 18, 2019:
I once had magical thinking. If any of this works it is because of your mindset towards it in advance. It has no evidence nor logic.
Being religious is no longer a trend for teens, research shows – HS Insider
DenoPenno comments on Jun 18, 2019:
That's good news. It is my observation that as parents lose the super control they once had on their children that these children have less of the old superstitions of parents. Children are then less likely to follow passed on god beliefs and also have less prejudice racially. Indoctrination is not as likely today as it was before.
God and I reached an understanding.
DenoPenno comments on Jun 18, 2019:
I only go to church for weddings and I do not do many of them. My religious friend keeps telling me I can meet a good woman in church. What he fails to tell me is that if I go this route and it happens that I meet such a woman, she will soon be crying because an invisible part of me will end up in a make believe place of fire and it is all a plan of the invisible man. Ditto! We are back to convert or leave.
Have you ever heard about the lynching of a woman in Kabul, Afghanistan which took place in 2015?

School Board Jesus Prayer
DenoPenno comments on Jun 18, 2019:
It's Evangelical crap! If such a prayer is allowed what about those who are from a completely different faith? Then we have that question of why should a school board be having prayers in the first place. It's wrong and against the Constitution.

Should we all become teetotalers because there are alcoholics?
DenoPenno comments on Jun 18, 2019:
I understand this because I am an alcoholic. I'm addicted to the Internet and these days my body does not let me drink much. Last weekend I bought a 15 can pack of beer and did not even open it yet. I also have other booze in the house. I'm now a teetotaler. I've learned to live with alcoholism. Religion is another story.

DenoPenno comments on Jun 17, 2019:

I am without a doubt an Atheist,but a few days ago I saw a Ghost !!! If anybody is interested I ...
DenoPenno comments on Jun 17, 2019:
Do not let my current position fool you. I have had ghostly experiences and supernatural experiences in my lifetime. Most of us have. It's just that today I know where most of them came from and how the mind is manipulated toward these events. It is all similar to our minds wanting to see patterns and how you saw that cloud that looked just like Jesus. The difference is that it goes a bit deeper than this, but it is all in your mind. Did it happen? Yes, but your interpretation of the event is flawed. This is the very reason that drugs and fasting are used for some religious experiences. You see what you are conditioned to see even if you do not understand all conditions of the event.
How did you come to be atheist, agnostic, etc.?
DenoPenno comments on Jun 17, 2019:
Time went by and then one day I woke up. I was tired of beating myself up for always "missing the mark" as Paul claimed we do. I came to realize that god was punishing mankind for something they did not do, and that incest was not a good plan for mankind to get here. God then found a way out for us when he used Jesus who also did not do anything. Scriptures and the perfect plan then became nonsense. I had no ideas of "putting my sins off onto a goat" and driving it into the wilderness. I was not going to paint my doorstep with lamb's blood. I simply quit and I was so glad to do so.
New report finds many non-believers still believe in the supernatural - Big Think
DenoPenno comments on Jun 17, 2019:
Of course non-believers still believe in the supernatural. People think "well, it could be." The problem here is that it was all supernatural when you were into religion. Your god was supernatural and he did supernatural things. Today as a non-believer think back into some happenings around you that you thought were supernatural at the time when you were a believer. I remember them well but the difference today is that I can explain most of them. When you are a believer you want to believe. This is why you do believe. As an atheist i reject all things supernatural. I need evidence.
What would you have said?
DenoPenno comments on Jun 17, 2019:
I would have most likely have replied that god had nothing to do with it. This would have upset her into a path of explaining how god controls everything including our weather. That conversation opens up a big door of ridiculous nonsense.
