My grandfather went from Baptist to JW and he drank and never went to their meetings. I spent some years with my grandparents so I'm aware of Witnesses and know all about them. This morning I caught some high lights of this crap on TV. Bret is telling a supposedly moving thing as his girls are saying their prayers. Wait! What is this shit? As a former Evangelical who was in church 3 times a week I do not remember this nonsense. We prayed enough in church. Someone might mention at bedtime to "say your prayers" but that was about it. The entire essence here was "don't let the boogyman get me." Now with great soap opera type drama we are supposed to believe this man is so religious and the use of children praying is making that clear to us. I wanna puke! I simply do not know anyone who believes like this and if you think on it you probably do not either. That makes this whole charade nothing but story time. Do you think these Congressmen and Senators do this in their families? I don't.

I agree that it is about frigging time. A point to consider in American politics is that as long as women's clinics are known as "abortion clinics" a noticeable change will not be seen. These clinics take up on sex education where the parent and school left off and maybe never trod. They give young girls birth control meds and this has to be wrong coz the church said so. God wanted us to "be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth." A simple condom can prevent HIV but the church says not to use it. I have a Republican friend who tells me how many abortions some of "these women have had" when such info is not public information. Think. Do the math. Are pills cheaper than abortions? It must be hard for some of these men to even be married. Then we have the Evangelical who knows god is on his side when he killed "an abortion doctor." Nothing will change here until we get "god" out of American politics. That might be a long time away from now.

A preacher once was out fishing with his friend who was a smoker.The man coughed a lot and lit up time and again to finally say "these cigarettes are killing me" and he fell over and died. 2. UFO's were getting popular and a preacher once claimed to have seen one and it landed. A man and a woman got out of the craft and later it took off again. The preacher later sees this woman working in a cafe and it's the same woman but she denies seeing him before. If you have your dream job you are lucky. Most of us at my income level do not have that luxury. We do what we must to get by. I am fortunate in a way that makes some people hate me. I have no mortgage worries, etc. because for many months before retiring I was able to save a thousand a month. I am frugal but I basically am able to do what I want. Others that I know simply spend money. I have job enough to help me maintain mine.

I once knew a woman who openly defied fate and had an affair with a married man. She told everyone that this guys wife did not care and was a terrible woman. I agree with you, Becca. I used to have few friends and lots of associates. Today the associates are becoming fewer. So is the friend list. I believe that once you go the atheist path this sort of thing will happen unless you have some sort of community to share things. For us this site may serve that way. For many others it keeps them in church attendance. It would be surprising to find that many in church haven't believed in several years, but it may be so. I would love to find secular community somewhere and it's the only thing I can recommend to battle the isolation.

I don't like tattoos at all. Some look good and once you get them I guess you just have them from then on. Both my daughters have them and they love them.
