When I lived in Texas and was an in-home repairman I had calls in the 1970's style mansions built there in the booming hey days of Texas oil. Many times I found frozen water pipes under a sink and the cure was simply to open up the cabinet doors to let in the main room air. Everything was poorly insulated. On top of that the houses are built on concrete slabs. If it gets cold enough for the ground to freeze and crack one of those, there is no fix for that house. If would no longer have any value.

Many of them think even now that Trump is president and has an office at Mar a Lago where he waits patiently to come out openly with military support to reclaim his office and get rid of Biden and all the newly elected Dems. The reason for this ruse was to avoid starting a civil war. This is not even a good movie plot. Well, maybe if you wanted to start a civil war. :)

I have relatives in the Houston area that say they have had no electric since 2 AM on 2-15-21. Social media friends in Austin have said the power is being cycled on and off, back and forth just so they can have electricity. It might go 2 or 3 hours and be turned off a while. Lots of things come into play here but it is cold everywhere and that part was not figured into the power structures in some Texas areas. Houston is 14 degrees and Dallas is 6 degrees. I lived in Texas 20 years and only remember cold once, but it was not like this. I'm in mid Missouri where it is zero right now and is said to be in the minus numbers over night. So far I have had no electric problems but the storm door did freeze shut once.

Karen, my favorite hiking partner, had a huge shock.

My condolences to Karen. I'm sure this was quite a shock. It's good that she doesn't need money and all is paid for. If it is not too spooky to her she might continue living in the house. Some people don't do that if someone died there, especially a spouse. I'm a person who would not be bothered by it myself.

What happened was that I grew up. This took a long time for me but it also involved waking up and a lot of bible study. Imagine for a moment that the world has many religions and men have written about them and put them in books telling you what god wants you to do. The catch is that only your god and religion are correct. That should be enough for anyone. I have an alternate story where I claim to have quit believing when Jesus did not bring me a pony.

It is a formula style of writing and the number 40 can simply mean "a long time." Some people put significance to all of the "magic numbers" of the bible but you have to understand that the stories were past down to others and nobody actually knew how long Jesus was in the desert, etc. Is the bible historical fiction? Ana is correct here. What gets me is that human bodies both male and female get rid of sperm and eggs in a normal natural way, then some religious idiot comes along and tells you what the bible says. Did they read it? The bible is not anti-abortion. There is no special rule of when a sperm and egg are joined together.
