There are many things that we can debate and argue over with religion.
DenoPenno comments on Jan 28, 2020:
One true god is sort of like one true Scotsman. I do not debate (at least not long and drawn out) because it proves nothing. I'm still surprised by the comment of the idiot in You Tube who wanted me to "give him proof" of why I no longer believe. I do not have to have proof for changing my mind due to lack of evidence. However, if you pray while standing on one leg and have your tongue in your cheek, then hop around a bit and try not to fart, maybe god will bless you. If he did not you still have some sin in your life, or it is because of something that you father did.

Any particular reason why people say "you scared the hell out of me?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 27, 2020:
To scare the hell out of you is an odd expression but keep in mind this is literally what early preachers did to get converts. They would scare you with hell. Things like this were so strong in the early days of Christianity that people were all asking what was and was not a "sin." Over time the expression was simply used to mean "you scared me a lot, or surprised me." One I always liked was RIP (rest in peace.) Everyone thinks it is so wonderful and comforting that you want the dead to rest in peace. This saying comes out of times that people believed the dead did not rest in peace because they might come back and bother you. There were various ways of making sure the dead rested in peace and it gave the living peace of mind. Today we have a bit less superstition in our world. Just yesterday on social media a believer is not excepting my statement of no longer believing in gods. He demands that I give him proof, as most believers will do. I did not claim there are no gods. I stated that I no longer believe in gods. The burden of proof is upon him because of his demand. I make no claim for gods of any kind.
Why Religion Is Not Going Away and Science Will Not Destroy It
DenoPenno comments on Jan 26, 2020:
My take on this is a bit different. It is true that time only marches forward. We go the other direction only in our minds and our lives are made up of random events that have happened in our forward journey. We remember our past in random fashion along the way and we all seek security and explanation. These events vary from person to person but politically we can be manipulated by them. We tend to feel safe if we have all the answers. This is why it is so easy to persuade people. This is why politics and religion are both so damned stupid. There is no "free will." It is an illusion caused simply by being alive and being a part of society. There is no scientific cure for this and never can be. I would go so far as to say this is why some claim that "history repeats itself." Within my own being I have used the above thinking to see exactly "why" I do things. I can associate my actions with past and current action in pinpoint reality. I can see why I said something today that came out of past belief and know that the future is likely an extension of my past in some way. Limited free will is present in either doing something or not doing something but an examination of what you did might often produce the answer of why you did it. In being an agnostic atheist you have only broken somewhat free of this cycle and it cannot be "cured" except in death.
Discrimination and human rights.
DenoPenno comments on Jan 26, 2020:
Nobody has that right, and to claim they do is a form of control. Men in particular do not have a right over use of the mind and body of women. Biblical men thought so because a woman was property. **After all, it was the** **woman who made the man sin.** (Yes, I did bad things and it is your fault.) This is why women who wear provocative clothing have caused their rape. It is also why ignorant men around me claim I should hate my ex because she decided to leave and live somewhere else. For the record, I avoid those with this sort of thinking.
Why don't people control vicious dogs? Yesterday's Rottweiler attack.
DenoPenno comments on Jan 26, 2020:
I agree. My thoughts on this are simple. I am a dog lover but not a current dog owner. If the dog is menacing and unruly it is because the animal has an ignorant owner. Dogs adapt to the personality and wishes of the owner. Most dogs react to and carry out the voice commands of the owner. Dogs that are in control tend to like what the owner likes.

I think we all struggle with them almost daily. I have a long time Christian friend that I've known since age 12 or so. He thinks my non-belief is a rebellion and just a phase. Talking to him is a pain as he often gets into what I call "preaching." He tells me "no, it is scripture." Regardless of my religious past I don't think god wrote a book or wants to talk to you...My friend tells me that "I know the truth." He in no way is referring to my now belief that gods are imaginary. I might add that I no longer get caught up in the long winded arguments to prove god. I cut them off early. One argument believers have is that "life does not come from non-life." OK, smart boy. Tell me how your god made man from dirt.

How educated are people when it comes to deciding their theistic beliefs?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 25, 2020:
Most people don't have a clue about theistic and religious differences and simply make up their minds from words of others, doing this without any study at all. Some atheists just dismiss the whole idea without looking into it. People decide what they believe in mostly on what their parents believed in, and they only change their beliefs as they get older and look at things more closely. It is not a matter of which religion is the right one out of a whole world of religions. It is a matter of why any religion would be the right religion. There is also the question of why would you need a religion? If Jesus died for your sins why do you have to repent? If god cannot stand sin of any kind why is Jesus sitting at his right hand in heaven? I ask this because all the sins of the world were put on Jesus. Where did those sins go?

Thoughts on extraterrestrial life?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 23, 2020:
Are there other intelligent life forms? It would be ridiculous to assume not. As for what people are seeing, I am not sure. My mind goes more along the lines of craft that is being tested in some way and people end up seeing some of this. Of course, authorities will deny any testing but from time to time this denial comes out as a coverup. I myself have seen strange moving lights. As for types of craft being seen by the general public, this evolves in image right along with our perception and imagination of possible crafts. This could be something right along with my idea above, or it is some inner working mechanism within our minds. Chances are that extraterrestrials have not dropped in. Often too many known aircraft seen right along with the unknown, or in close proximity.

It was sort of like "step on a crack and break your mother's back" sort of thing. The preacher showed up and his son told him of my fears. The preacher then said he would pray with the adults and his son should stay and continue to pray with me. The point I want to make here is that a concerned preacher would be telling his congregation how dumb ideas like this are and how it is ridiculous. Maybe they do not do it coz they don't want to lose people from the church.

Hillary thought she had it all sewn up and Donna Brazile wrote a book about it. Zuckerberg even offered help and Hillary said no, I got this. Bernie started looking pretty good after Hillary lost but people don't care. The DNC doesn't care. So, it's no wonder to me that Trump asked the Ukrainian president for help with info on the Bidens that he could use in his re-election. Trump knows that the DNC does not want to back progressives and that makes Joe Biden the main contender against the Trump presidency.

Did anyone ever think that "I am not perfect, I am just forgiven" might be a big thing in religion because we needed this from our parents long ago? We never felt perfect. We never felt forgiven even if we were. In religion you get a second chance at this with your heavenly father. Do what he says and he is the perfect father and not like your earthly one. God so easily replaces the parents.

DenoPenno comments on Jan 19, 2020:
In the end it will have to be a good sign if anyone involved in this is honest with themselves. Their honesty itself will point them to the truth. The opposite would be to put blame on culture changes in the world for the demise of your church. Some people may be that dumb but how could their god be that dumb? I recall being in a Pentecostal church when a man got up to testify and he says "I was just back here in the corner talking to the Lord and he told me this and so." I was a believer then and we all thought this was normal. I was even proud when Reagan invited the religious into the GOP. The truth of the matter is that there is no invisible man to talk to. If this was not considered to be religion (and therefore sacred) somebody would be locking these people up. The big problem is that many of them are running the government today. Anyone recall when Michelle Bachmann made statement that Obama was :bringing on the Apocalypse? The truth is that these people are more than happy to help bring on the Apocalypse. Now that is really scary! I told this story because many Methodist churches are similar to Pentecostal churches. Recall that Oral Roberts found a need to switch from one to the other and became Methodist. I have always thought this move had a lot to do with his University. Who would want a place of higher learning where people are talking in tongues.

DenoPenno comments on Jan 17, 2020:
I am amazed by the Trump supporters who claim China is paying for the new Trump tariffs. Even the media seems to lose site of the fact that these goods will have to cost more now. It means that the American public is paying China more money just because of Donald Trump. Take that, China!

I would say that The new Light of God is still the same old shit. The only thing that keeps this from happening in most of our communities is the fact that believers know fully well that they will go to jail. Take that away and you have this all over again and again.

DenoPenno comments on Jan 17, 2020:
We are so vulnerable to religious appeals because everyone feels better when they have all the answers. You are in safe hands when your group has the answers and there is more protection in a group to start with. They have your back.
Thoughts on the Bernie/Warren kerfuffle?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 17, 2020:
I feel that it is a media provoked misunderstanding designed to discredit both Warren and Bernie. Keep in mind that the DNC wants nothing radical or too far left and even had Obama tell us so. In this sort of distraction remember that Trump asked the Ukraine for dirt on Biden and not Warren or Bernie. This tells me that both Trump and the DNC know in advance who Trump's 2020 rival will be. Look deeply inside this and you can see the anger that people had when Trump was elected and know also that it is still there on both sides. We have been betrayed. Isn't it time to refinance your home? Use every app that comes along and try a second mortgage. Is it all about money?
How do people feel about pulling good guy (or good person) deeds as an atheist?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 17, 2020:
Good guy or good person deeds. The key here is that if you do these things do not talk about them. It has nothing to do with gods or rewards and everything to do with you as a person. Secretly doing good deeds makes you a better person. Helping someone is good. Giving away all that you have makes you an idiot, so be smart and beware.
I just can't stand this anymore.
DenoPenno comments on Jan 16, 2020:
Just today I heard some talking Trump and said he doesn't put up with bullshit. That's what they like about him, they say. I saw a Trump 2020 flag that says the same thing - no more bullshit. What people miss is that Donald Trump is full of bullshit and lots of it.
The structure of marriage is heavily based upon religion; in the sight of god, till death, what god ...
DenoPenno comments on Jan 16, 2020:
I did my own divorce over 2 years ago. I was lucky because in 12 years of marriage we had no children. The core of marriage belief comes form religion. While people claim you should support your wife and children the basic marriage concept is out of the bible with a woman as property. I understand fully when women do not want to change their names. What about Mrs. Smith? Is that your name now and your identity? It is a poor name that only honors the male in the relationship. Again, this comes out of ownership. Marry me and remain whoever you are.
Who in here has actually had what they would consider a successful long distance relationship?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 16, 2020:
I don't think that would work for me. The closest thing that would work for me is to be in a relationship where they live with me on the weekend and then go to a city to work 5 days before it happens again. I had that once and it worked fairly well until I discovered that she was slowly moving clothes into my income tax drawer. Imagine if she lived with me full time.
Depressed Agnostics?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 16, 2020:
Certainly it is correct. I have less friends because of my non-belief. This means I am likely to not be as involved in activities that many others share. There is also the fact that if you are an active church goer more people appear to readily agree with you. I'm talking about your group only. Am I depressed? Hell yeah! It comes with the territory and does not get better. You simply learn to live with it. If anyone is thinking therapy I strongly advise you seek out a non-believing therapist. Otherwise it is just a big waste of time. BTW, I am my own therapist.

Kentucky Christian School Expels Student For Eating Rainbow Birthday Cake | Michael Stone
DenoPenno comments on Jan 15, 2020:
Be aware here that the very first time I saw this today she was expelled for wearing a rainbow shirt. Later on it changed to the birthday cake. What it means is that someone in social media is pulling our chains and they want to keep us busy and occupied. It can be about politics or people getting paid by clicks (views) on something they post. It might even be both.

DenoPenno comments on Jan 15, 2020:
Certainly the government would agree with this. Now back to the bible where Jesus reportedly said "give unto god that which is god's, and give onto Caesar that which is Caesar's." There is a big problem here. Nobody in that rejoin and at that time thought Caesar had a rightful claim to anything. Maybe it was a trick question. Cut to today when preachers and everybody us that scripture reference to mean "be a good boy and pay your taxes." So much for modern cherry picking.
Why does life exist?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 15, 2020:
This may be true but it sounds like another version of the primordial soup. Why does life exist? Only humankind seems to be asking that question. The religious want to claim it as if they had found a black cat in a dark room. Of course, they will know more by and by.

DenoPenno comments on Jan 14, 2020:
How about haunted mobile homes? Maybe they haven't been around long enough for ghosts to like them. Sorry, I should have said spirits. Yes, where do they cross over to? Those who know claim it is the other side. OK, the other side of what? Why would furniture move when the spirits have no bodies? Oh, it is energy. Let's capture some of them and put them to work. We would have free labor. Ever notice that these spirits can bite or scratch you? They claim this is true but they have no body, no teeth, and no fingers or nails. What is going on here? The truth is that it is Reality TV and some people simply love it. Some swear that it really is true and it goes back for centuries. The problem is that nonsense like this has been debunked for many, many years now and the scammers keep coming back with it. None of this has to do with life after death.
